Morning all,

Parked next to a nice Audi today and noticed that it had the same 19inch rotors as mine but basically immaculate! Mine are all scratched due to my rubbish LHD driving and parking! I noticed that the Audi had Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 tyres with amazing rim protection. Never seen a tyre with so much protection. Do any of you have any views on these? Im due for new tires all round after this winter season so ill refurb them and then look out for some like these hankooks with good rim protection.

As far as I understand it is only the Audi original, AO, Hankooks that come with that additional rim protection. They are a good enough tyre for me to replace my fronts with them again.
Mercedes also fit them to their factory cars...

Interesting. thanks for that mate. Your P-Zero tyre protection rim seems a little further away or different angle from the rim compared to the Hankook in the image I posted? Thats why I was impressed with the Hankook. I notice you have a little scratch on yours, wonder if that would happen with the Hankooks as they seem to hug the tyre more.

Nothing would have saved that scratch on my wheel. Car slipped on oil/diesel and went straight into kerb and there was suspension damages as well. It was a tall kerb too.

No idea on the Hankooks, but the rim protection on wife’s JCW has saved the day a couple times

Appreciate this isn’t a very good picture to show rim protection, but shows alloy is still mint

Those spokes looks like it sticks out further than the tyre. Almost shouting I’m a kerb magnet

As you can see that’s the RO1 version of the tyre which means it’s for Audi (Audi Quattro to be more specific). All Hankook tyres marked A0, A01, RO1 and RO2 will have the same rim protection. Whereas the normal tyre will have exactly zero rim protection. With that said it’s a really great tyre (I’ve had it myself in non-Audi spec).

Noticed that the Hnakooks are rated as "E" for fuel and "B" for rain. Does the fuel part make much of a difference?

In my last golf gt tdi I fitted the Dunlop blue response which were A rated and economy was better by around 5-10% compared to the continentals that were on it but I think the compound on the blue response were more silica based and less rubber.

I have these tyres on mine and I've got to say they're some of the best tyres I've had, especially on standing water absolutely no aquaplaning and just slices through the water. The kerb protection is good as they've saved me a couple of times. As for the ratings my fuel economy is just the same but they are quieter and a really good price for a midrange tyre.
