My 2nd oil change is coming up soon for my A3 Hatchback 1.4 TFSI from 2008 (CAXC petrol engine).

My manual says the following:
  • Longlife service: VW 504 00
  • Normal service: VW 502 00, 504 00
Then on the Castrol docs for 5W-30 Edge FST I see the following:
  • 5W-30 LL: VW 504 00/ 507 00
  • 5W-30 C3: VW 502 00/505 00/ 505 01
Does this mean if I want to change the oil after 12 months I need the C3 variant as it meets the VW502 spec? If I use the oil selector in the Castrol website it tells me to use the LL one instead.

I would always use the longlife oil but change it after 12 months. 504/507 is the higher specification.

I use Long-life in my BKD and change it every 8-9K.
This may be overkill but given that it only costs about £30 for oil & filter I think it’s a cheap price to pay.
