Tried everything to get the damn thing off, it seems like its been murdered up, couldn't shift it! Ended up breaking it ***.

Car now off the road.. going to have to try and break the old one out I guess.

Any tips on where to get a new one? Not much coming up online yet. Its a 2.0tdi, BRE 178303 engine.

Shouldn't be too hard to get out, just break the rest of it.

I think this is the part number for new item although someone double check

Thanks bud, thats the part I keep seeing but for some reason Amazon says it won't fit my car :/

Not sure where you can get a proper part list?

Yeah, going to have to attack it somehow mate, worried about bits of plastic ending up in there though!

You could try autodoc, type your registration in and it will show a list of parts, then you can find the oil filter housing cap and it will show the part number. Then Google the part number off that and find somewhere that sells it. Or just order of there.

You could stuff a plastic bag into the oil filter housing to catch anything while you break it off ?

I'm guessing your oil filter housing faces upward

Looks like these options mate: Edit: wow this site does some strange stuff to amazon links :/ but these are the item id's!
Audi 045 115 433 E - B00FZGOI52
Audi 045 115 433 C - B00FZGOG4U
Audi 045 115 433 D - B00FZGOG9K - this looks like the stuck one and does say Audi A4 (8E) which looks like a B7, although the Amazon tool says it won't fit

Cheers mate, I'll try that autodoc in a bit.

Yeah, the cap faces up, not sure how I could get a bag in there with the cap stuck on though? I expect anything that breaks off internally will just fall down the well where the filter lives?

Got it off in one piece in the end by tapping it around with a hammer and rod phew.

Got the D version coming tomorrow from Amazon so fingers crossed it fits, really need to be on the road again!

BRE , not a good engine code I'm afraid.

Planned obsolescence...
Yeah, seen some horror stories about the shaft issue. This one is a 2008 on 152k a full book of stamps but no other history to check what's been done
