I was washing my car this afternoon and I noticed in cleaning my engine bay that the trip around the windscreen was not even. And there appeared to be a crack as well.

I have attached photos so you can see what I’m talking about.

I’m wondering first of all is this an important thing that needs to be fixed ASAP as water could get under the windscreen and into the engine? And if so what is the cost of this part?

I did try to remove the gap but I couldn’t. The photos are before I put it back together but hopefully you can see the gap between the windscreen and the trim and the crack down the side.

(Ignore the reflections from the sunny evening)

Thanks.

Has no one any idea about this?

Have you owned the car from new? Maybe the front screen was replaced before? This is known as the scuttle panel.... only reason for removing this would be to get the the wiper motor or replacing the screen

Yes owned from new. It’s possible that in the process of one of the Audi dealers doing warranty work this may have happened and I didn’t notice. (On my precious S3 the car came back with some dents on the front bumper which happened somehow on site so that dealer replaced them bumper but I don’t know when this occurred).

Anyway looking at it this afternoon I realised there is a channel under the windscreen and so I was able to adjust the scuttle plate and get rid of the gaps. There is still a crack in it (black highlight) but with everything back in place it is so small I doubt water would even get through it. I’m thinking maybe a bit of superglue down the spine would do the job sealing it off.

What do you guys think?

Try it, if not if it’s playing on your mind that much buy a new one

I doubt super glue would end up looking very good, will turn white. I wouldn’t be too concerned about water ingress because it’s not water right anyway. But if it was mine, it would be changed anyway..

Definitely avoid using superglue, as said above it will leave a white stain that will just draw attention to it. Since you have repositioned and bridged the gap, any water that could seep into that hairline crack would be negligible and hardly worth the trouble/expense to have it changed just for that.

If it remains a concern for you, use some of this stuff to completely seal it...

It won't leave any unsightly residue like superglue and is actually more effective for your requirement. Apply it using a detail brush with ultra fine tip.
