Hi guys hope everyone is well,
As the title suggests, I have my 2017 S3 booked in for the 21st of this month for its first service. The car has only covered 1800 miles but as its approaching 2 years old the inspection message has come up on the dash. I called my local audi to book it in and the lady who I spoke to said it will be having the following done:
Oil change
Oil filter
Pollen filter
Visual inspection

Only issue is, they are asking £465.70 for all of the above.
I have heard that you can get audi to price match if you find a cheaper quote elsewhere but I'm not entirely sure about how I go about it. Do I just get a quote from an independent and forward it to Audi via email or do I just bring the quote with me on the day of the service? Also, will audi try and wriggle out of it somehow, if so then how? Any help will be much appreciated

That is a stupid price, that would cost £150 anywhere else... You can get the quote via email or paper and show it to the dealer or forward them the email they have to use audi spec oil and parts, some garages don't like sending out quotes for the reason that they know the business will go to the main dealer.

I paid around £210 for pretty much that but mine was classed as a 1 year 10k service.

I’ve paid about £150 for the same on my A3 at an indi audi specialist. Can’t see why the S3 will be much more when it comes round to it.

Would expect around the £200-250 mark for Audi dealer but £460 is redic.

I would trust that my indi actually does the work and doesn’t ‘clean’ my car while it’s with them too.

Yes ditto. Maybe the dealer is trying to recover the money for first year’s service that was missed:whistle2:
Low mileage cars should be fixed annual service.

Thanks for the help guys, just called up again and the lady on the phone "service manager" said that £465.70 is the going rate and that they wouldn't be able to price match because an independent doesnt have the same overheads and aren't trained to the same standard as audi technicians what does that even mean? Audi's overheads aren't my problem. Does anybody know if it goes by region because I was told that Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Canterbury would all be the same price as they all share a price guide apparently?

Was that for a fixe service interval first oil change?
AudiLeon96 needs a 2 year long life service including inspection. Similar to a fixed interval 2 year service.
If you can be bothered to jump through the price match hoops and your dealer plays ball all well and good but my dealer has always price matched to their own service pricing for cars over three years old which is much cheaper and seems fair to all concerned. I know there won't be the accusations of someone else's standard of work and what has been done if the car need expensive warranty work in future.
I paid £286 for oil/inspection service last year and £173 for oil change service this year. Expensive, but nowhere near what the dealer group centralised service booking team were asking for the same work.

My quotes for the 2nd year service, including all the things you mentioned when I had the S3:

Cheshire Oaks Audi: £365
Crewe Audi: £401.19
Liverpool Audi: £439.80, then they added air con service is due as well after 2 years @ £59.98
I went to an Audi specialist and got the lot for £220.

Sold the car less than a year later to a sports car specialist for £1,500 more than Audi were offering and he was happy with where I'd had it serviced.

You can get a quote from an independent specialist and it must include Audi approved parts. I have heard though of some independent's not providing it in writing though as they know what will happen...

Apologies for hijacking this thread, I have a very quick question...

My car has done approx 22k, so far it has had a delivery inspection and then at approx 10k miles the Flexible oil change service.

Question is, what service should the car be having next? It's booked in on Friday. I was assuming a major service, but the dealer says otherwise.

Car is only a 1.6TDi... nowt fancy.

TIA

I wouldn't blame them. If someone asked me to quote for a job knowing full well that they were just using my quote to beat someone else down, I'd tell them where to stick it.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't dream of trying that on with the garage I use. I've spent far too many years building up a good relationship with them to ruin it like that.

You'd have to be prepared to burn your bridges and turn a deaf ear to the inevitable scorn.

Go and look at the Audi over 3 years fixed price servicing costs for the exact same thing is and then go and have a discussion with them about how it costs so much less if the car is over 3 years old..

Alternatively, find a local Skoda dealer and get them to quote for a service. Exact same parts will be used from there.

Mate Audi main dealer are thieves, how can it cost more to do the exact same service on a car that is more than three years old? I tell you why because they know that fools like us will go back to them just to keep that "full main dealer service history"

The sooner people boycott the main dealers and start using independents the better. Drop in service revenue for them is what they will get and to be honest the way their new cars are falling behind competition their sales will drop aswell

Also you might aswell give up trying to get the main dealer to price match because that will never happen. I have had like for like quotes in the past and they have refused to honor them over petty little things so you end up paying their full price anyway

Sorry for the rant but servicing costs are a touchy subject!

Dealers charge as much as they can get away with, that's business. It's up to you whether you pay full whack or find the best way to negotiate a better price.

Mate that is just ridiculous!

5l Quantum Oil = £22 (which is top end trade , they will give it cheaper to regulars, and obviously cost price to themselves)
Filter £10-15 maximum
Pollen filter under £20 I imagine
Visual inspection (that’s complimentary with any work they have done)

So £55 in parts give or take £5/10 either way

30mins to 1 hour labour Max

What the absolute Flipppp are they charging £465.50 for?

I had a similar experience on my s3 8v when I called for a quote, they quoted me £390 for the same as you’ve mentioned above. I simply asked the lady, break down the costs to me because I know how much the parts cost. She obviously didn’t have an answer.

Bearing in mind I had a service done on my 8p 2.0 tdi for the same parts you’ve mentioned above about 4 years ago for £150 at Audi Main dealers

The parts would have cost the same for that, so why are they charging £300 more. Con artists

There is three outcomes for all this
1 pay the cost of the dealerships price
2 take it to an Indy
3 do it yourself

I can not believe people are still shocked when they phone up a dealership and are shocked at how much they charge, if you don’t like the price go elsewhere or do it yourself

I sent my local Skoda dealership an email yesterday asking for a price....waiting!

Went into Audi today as I had another matter to discuss, but whilst I was there I got a quote for a second year service, as soon as he saw my face he said "If you get another quote from someone else, it has to have the parts and part numbers listed on the quote for us to price match" I laughed and replied with "Not being funny, but if I get a cheaper quote from somewhere else using the same part I'll not be coming back here, you've had your chance":

Lol

He said we will set it at 2 years or 17,000 mile, as that is what is needed! So I said "In that case why did you bring me in last year for it's first service with under 4,000 on the clock?" He replied with "Because the car was a year old" He'd just said all cars are set at 2 years/17,000 mile!!!

To be fair, if it only does 4K miles/annum it should have fixed annual servicing, per Audi rules.

Yeah I've seen that on their site and I was OK with that as I do a lot of short trip, but he's saying that if I have the service done he would change it to 2 years or 17,000 even going forward, even though I said I'm not using the car and only doing around 4k a year... So have they changed their stance on the under 10k rule?

Talking to the guy in BMW last week, he said their new cars are fixed at 2 years no matter what miles you drive!

I disagree with your (frankly arrogant, sorry) attitude.

What is wrong with someone wanting a job done for a fair price? This is especially the case when a car is within warranty. Audi dealer prices are laughable, you could employ a law firm or a surgeon for a lesser hourly rate.

Warranty can be refused if the car has not been serviced as required by a VAT registered garage. In other works you cannot service it yourself, no matter how handy you are.

I hope you post how satisfied you are with your next Audi service experience (if you are paying for it yourself that is).

If you don’t plan to keep the car long term then fair enough, otherwise:

* Oil degrades over time and short journeys really won’t help that
* S3 is 150/155 hp/litre - that’s a lot to ask of a production engine and also an oil.

Each to their own opinion but personally feel that variable / extended service on that engine is a brave decision if you are looking long term, whether with dealer or trusted indy.

Don’t mean to come across arrogant, just my opinion.

And no I do all my own work on my rs and get help from other more knowledgeable rs owners to give me advice and help me do jobs I’ve not yet undertaken.
Job satisfaction and I know it’s done correctly
