Looks like I've been had off by trader :O(

Bought a car that I had delivered on Tuesday and noticed some issues on day 1. Oil light was on which I initially put down to the journey of around 200 miles but on further investigation found all the posts about this engine/year and the oil issues (2010 2.0 TFSI)

Then the car would intermittently judder when I put my foot down, this got progressively worse until this morning when I just about managed to limp the car to a local performance garage to run a full diagnostic (VCDS)

Here's what it found:

Engine malfunctions:
Cylinder 2 - Misfire detected
Cylinder Disabling
Random Cylinder misfires
Engine off timer performance
CAN gateway (not sure what this is)

The engine mgmt light is nearly always on now and the car pretty much undriveable.

They were also very suspicious that the only fault code data found was from the day I had the car delivered (3/9) they expected a large print out from VCDS as the car is nine years old and apparently keeps a historic record of any error reports - I'm guessing they wiped all previous codes before selling it?

I'm liaising with their warranty partner (AA) and want a full refund including my delivery costs and diagnostic tests. I also paid on a credit card so hopefully protected their end for faulty goods. Nightmare!

If this is resolved, any tips on finding a decent Audi? am I best avoiding this year and engine? I was after something for around 6k and 200bhp standard - this ticked the box and was a lovely drive for the day or so it didn't fall over!

First thing, old fault codes, typically they would get cleared as problems that been resolved as there is no reason to leave them in memory.

That thought did cross my mind and makes sense but there's no way imo this hasn't been an issue in the weeks/months before I bought it and suddenly started the day I had it collected

I think that you can ask Audi UK for a copy of all service and repair work carried out on that car, though as it is now 9 years old, maybe a lot of its later service/repair work would have been carried out outside of the Audi official dealership workshop network, so not recorded on Audi's system.

Another thing to contest with the dealer, the advert stated full service history but I can't access anything from Audi until I travel to my nearest dealership - It did come with a recent oil change receipt though

Am I correct in thinking if the vehicle has a full audi history and has the oil consumption problem, they will help out even if outside the warranty?

This model of A4 with that engine, at that age, have been reported to probable be troublesome and many/most have needed engine rebuilds.

Due to the oil / piston issues?
Would it help my case to mention this to the garage/warranty company or would that give them wiggle room?

Thanks for the help, this is my first Audi so I'm lost! I actually love the car (when it runs) so it's a bit gutting.

The place was a focus rs/st specialist but also know the golf32 engine. They think coilovers for current issue and possibly pistons for the oil problem. I'm going into audi this week for the service history and will see if they still help out

I probably will but if audi offer to rebuild the engine for free (however likely that is) I'll definitely pause to consider.
