What Detailing / Car Care Products Have You Bought / Ordered Today?

Are you going for a few cars a day or looking to the more bespoke detailing aside of things . I guess starting out businesses is business though .

Have you considered going mobile like @FranA3 ?

Aim is to do proper detailing rather than a sort of car wash so prob one car per day/couple of days. I’m still roofing so will still have an income from that until things take off.

I removed the Karcher adaptor which left this:

https://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/products/foam-lance-stainless-steel-connecting-bar-14/flbar

I had to remove it with grips as it was a tight connection, you maybe lucky as it might come off with the adaptor. Photo below of my lance with the quick release adaptor attached:

I'm looking to turn this SF lance into quick release as well. Instead of trying to remove the connecting bar you linked to, I was thinking of removing the Karcher fitting and replacing it with a male ended quick release but with a female threaded section. Is this something you tried? Just wondering if the threads on the bar will fit.

Something like this.

Didn't try mate, worth a shot if you don't have the adaptor to go straight into the lance or you cant get it out. See if you can get a measurement for the thread of this and compare with the karcher thread size.

I've got an adaptor to go into the lance bit I'm just worried about damaging the lance trying to remove the metal connector, the female is only a couple of quid so I'll get it and give it try.

Cheers.

5 x tyre dressing applicator sponge pads arrived. (off amazon)

Since moving from spray application to gel, have been struggling applying it, more goes under my finger nails than on the walls. lol

Surprised how dense the foam is on these, look okay for what I paid for them.

So I contacted Autobrite to first find out if they could supply a lance with a 1/4" quick release and they sell that one on Amazon but not their main website. I'm 99% sure that the connector I was going to buy would have fitted though.

Here's the link if anyone wants to buy one to convert their existing lance.

Have you tried an alloy cleaning brush? My friend swears by his for applying tyre gel.

Thanks for that, don't worry I will do a safety test of the gun before pointing it at my car, or anyone. Unless there are small children, dogs or cats p'ing me off ;-)

I tend to only use the white nozzle - covers all bases for me. Oh, and take the red nozzle and throw it straight in the bin. Only bad, bad things will happen if you use that on your paint - it’s a single pin jet. First thing I did when I opened up the packaging was pop that one in the kitchen bin!

No, not heard of using a cleaning brush to apply gel, should work as long it's not the same brush to clean the wheels. lol

Anyway, going to try the new applicator pads later this morning.

Thanks,

Used one of these today to apply.

Kept the stuff of my fingers as well.

I got one of these, although I'm currently using Angelwax which is water based. Might be worth a look just cut off the scourer and good to go

I think you would end up using more product with this as it would seep into the scourer more regardless of it being water based or not.

Besides even at £1 you might as well buy proper tire dressing applicators, google "foam tire dressing applicator" the first link is for a pack of 10 from Amazon at £3.58.

Nitrile Powder Free Gloves keeps them fingers product free, I find the Aurelia Bold ones are very strong although not tried any others.

I hadn't realised they had got so cheap.

Given the potential chemical hazards I do all the washing, decon etc wearing gloves. I've only ever used Black Mamba and never had a pair fail, although they're not the cheapest.
NB If you Google make sure you add gloves to the search term otherwise you may get some unexpected results !

Yeah he keeps a separate one especially and much prefers it to the foam/sponge/microfiber things he's tried.

I'm still relatively new to the detailing world so don't really have my own opinions on much yet...

Bilt Hamber auto wash shampoo

Most be on my 4th or 5th bottle. Love this stuff.

IMG 20190904 132334

Last bottle of this lasted only about 11 months. So this time around going to do what is says on the tin and use the 5ml per wash. Instead of pouring what I think is a teaspoon amount.

If I can play by the rules then I should get a year and half washes for around 20p per wash.

Bargain!

Loosely related to detailing I guess, but have purchased these two items, one to measure out the di flakes and a dry place in which to store my 24kgs of the stuff:

As they old saying goes... better looking at it than looking for it....lol

Just arrived today from China - another 2 packs of foam applicator pads. The 24 pads cost me less than £3 from eBay, excellent pads and do the job and for that price I don’t mind discarding after one use. They’re from China and take a few weeks to arrive but for less than £2 a pack which includes delivery it’s excellent value.

Get yourself some cheap syringes from eBay, best way to measure this kind of stuff out I find.

I really like the look of the bilt hamber stuff, may have to try a bottle of this

Measuring shampoo with Syringes?!?! Sorry I'm with Jassy on this one! I'm all for following manufacturer guidelines but measuring shampoo to the ML to me is a tad excessive.

Each to their own. I find it easier to pull 10-15mls -ish (hard water area) per big bucket with a cheap eBay syringe than picking up the BIG bottle of BH Auto Wash I have and trying to tip in an appropriate ‘gentleman’s measure’. It’s not about being miserly - I just find it quicker and easier that way. Takes seconds - no more time. We all have our own little routines and rituals that keep us happy. Enjoy your own process, that’s what I say...

Haha yeah, if you want the right amount it’s the best way! I do it inside though in case the neighbours see and have me sectioned.

Found this Joseph Joseph laying around in a kitchen drawer. Perfect for a teaspoon measure and it's new home now in the garage.

2 second job to measure the shampoo now.

Quality gear that Joseph Joseph

Nearly bought some more BH Korrosol, but then I got to thinking what’s the difference between that and BH Auto Wheels, as both are bleeding iron fall-out removers, and both are about the same price, just one intended for bodywork and one for wheels. But the intended cleaning is the same - i.e. get rid of iron particles that have bonded to your paint.

So what is the difference? A bit of research tells me that Auto Wheels has a higher viscosity (and therefore clings better to alloys), and has added degreasing agents which Korrosol does not. But their potency is roughly the same. So thinking about it, I’m just gonna use Auto Wheels on my body work, and potentially save time on a subsequent degreasing stage when doing a full strip/paint decontamination. I’ve already got plenty of Auto Wheels, and BH themselves say it’s perfectly fine to use on bodywork (they posted on a thread on Detailing World to confirm this when this was being discussed over there).

Anyways, thought this was ‘interesting’ (in inverted commas), so thought I’d share...
