Hi People,

So my wife's audi a3 was ready to go to the garage this morning to get her master brake cylinder replaced and it hasn't been driven in 2 days just parked on drive.

When she tried to start the car, nothing! No ignition lights, only thing that works is just the key fob and the alarm.

I thought maybe the battery had died somehow when it was replaced less than a year ago but tried with jump leads on my car and still nothing.

Anyone any ideas where to start with this?

Thank you

Fuses, but if it doesn't light up could be ignition switch, few things tbh, hard to diagnose remotely.

I had the same problem a few months ago. Drove fine when I parked her up. Came to start a few days later and nothing. Starter motor wouldn't even turn. Battery was fine. Diagnosis initially pointed to dead ECU but wasn't happy with that. Ended up being the switch line cable to the ECU which runs in a loom near the battery box. Where it turned to go (tightly) under the plastic the battery tray/box there was a little green witness mark which was copper corroding from the little cable that had chaffed through. Wasn't easy to spot at first. A blob of solder sorted it and I cut a little hole to release the stress. I researched it and seems similar to a few other Audi's suffering the same 'dead car' problem. Worth a look...

Yeah, head for the battery and check the battery connections and the power board next to the battery.

Thanks for your replys guys, Rac came out yesterday and checked battery = fine; Fuses = fine. He said possible ignition switch. Towed to local garage, he changed over with a mk5 golf switch and still no joy. He said he spoke to electrician and reckon ECU. But I might just get him to check the cables Mr sidewinder mentioned.

I would check the relay before getting to the ecu itself.

Think it's either a ECU relay or ignition relay

Managed to get the car started. It was linked to the instrument cluster itself having condensation or something along them lines causing this issue

I have been having some major issues recently with my -

Audi A4 b7 S-Line 2.0 TDi
8ec 140hp BRE 2005 158k

It is currently dead and wont start at all, just strange strangled gargling skooshing sounds when i turn the key on full. The half turn comes on fine with the engine and battery lights on and my diagnostics say no error or fault codes at all. There was a serious engine shake on idle and really eratic acceleration control in low gears. Lots of toxic fumes in through the vents so had to use recirculated air. AC dryer cylinder pipe waa snapped off and ac oil cooler badly dented on bottom left from previous owners undisclosed front ender. The clutch felt crunchy and rattly too like the bearing was corroded and there were lots of noises from around the timing belt tensioners / altenator area like loud ticking / spitting. The n/s intercooler has a small hole / dent in it and appears to have hemorrhaged oil pretty heavily with staining about 2 inches from the bottom edge upwards. The turbo was starting to feel like it was maybe heavily choked up, egr and possibly breather tubes and exhaust system too. Engine bay was getting stupidly hot but oil temp read fine on the gauge. Felt a lot of power loss and as if it was really struggling to breathe, then started feeling really seriously rough in all gears and distinct lack of power. Used fuel additive to try help in case the tank was full of crud which it must be and had thought maybe injectors needed cleaned. It seemed to work well on a full tank but soon as i hit the half tank of diesel it got mega rough and worsened to nearly quarter tank then it just refused to start again.

I have these bits of advice so far:

EGR remove and clean
Fuel filter replace
Fuel pump replace
Fuel pressure release valve replace

Start with aerosol in the intake

Carbon cleaning service

Dryer cylinder and pipes for ac
Ac oil cooler panel

Timing belt, tensioners replace
Water pump replace
Altenator pulley and tensioner replace

Clutch bearing

If this list sounds right I will report back as I go and see what works. Any other help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Im no expert just been reading up on anything that sounds like similar issues / symptoms.
