Been search for this answer and looks like people say you cannot get a common rail BKD engine.

People have advised an easy way to differentiate PD from CR is to listen to the engine, it should sound like a tractor right?

Well, mine does not and is very quiet, my friends and family thought it was petrol at first when they compared it to their older way louder diesel cars.

Anyway, I was looking to get my car remapped to a stage 2 and the stats that are pulled from my reg is that it is a BKD engine code.

When I searched online people said the BKD is PD and are not CR.

So this didn't add up to me and I have decided to seek advice from you guys before I book a map.

Link to one of the forums i had a look at : https://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=210453

Alright, guys so now to follow on my question, they say on online forums that the CR was made available from the facelift models of the car.

And the PD is in the older non-facelift version.

Yet my car is a PD but is the new facelift with the updated bodywork and lights, this confused me because even tuning website only have PR engines options for the non-facelift model yet once I pick the facelift model its only CR engines?

Go to the engine and you’ll see PD injectors. The BKD engine block does not have the capacity to mount nor run a high pressure fuel pump. Taking the plastic cam cover off and you will see 2 over head cam sprockets used for the camshaft... CR use a dedicated sprocket on the cambelt to run

They stopped building the BKD - 140bhp in 2008 and replaced it with the CBAB - 140bhp and the CBBB-170bhp which both have common rail.

Basically you’ve got a 2008 facelift car with the BKD engine

Some info from wiki : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A3#2008_facelift

2008 facelift[edit]

Audi introduced a number of changes to the A3 and S3 in 2008. These include revised nose and tail styling, with a modified grille and daytime running lights, common rail 2.0 TDI engines, seven-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission availability for the smaller non-U.S. engines, and optional "magnetic ride" adaptive shock absorbers. In addition, the range now includes an S3 Sportback model.[12]

Also, a cabriolet version was introduced. It was similar dimensions to the 3-door version, with a two-box design.

If your engine looks like this, with the cambelt trim removed then it’s a PD.

End of your problems.

Just look on the sticker in the boot next to the spare wheel and see what engine code that says and then find out if that code is cr or pd. sounds to me like you’ve got a bkd engine in a facelift car as you’re car is when it first swapped over to being facelift. I had a 57 reg previously so only a few month older than yours and that was a non facelift with a pd engine.

What reg is the car? The only pd facelift as far as remember was the 1.9tdi until, the eventually swapped it out for a 1.6 tdi cr
