Q5 Something going on at Audi with the Q5

Carwow is coming back with 20% discounts on the Q5. This is substantially more than on other cars. Why? Is it because it’s going to be replaced/refreshed?

Possible - given that the A4 range has had a major facelift with a revised interior - and a new MMI with a touch screen announced and that A4 and Q5 share almost identical facias...very possible.

Facelifted Q5 will be due soon! Also if the car is already in the UK then it will need to be registered by September due to new WLTP rules. I purchased a Q5 in June and got about 15% off.

I don’t think Q5 is a specific example of more discount than other models, you can get similar if not more off A6, probably just looking to up sales of existing stock which is often when carwow deals appear to be best. Q5 not helped by only offering 2.0 petrol and then diesel. I for one jumped ship to a 3.0 petrol X3, what with SQ also going back to diesel.

The market is tough - dealers are either changing their business model to chase less volume and make more profit per deal (with consequent impact on staffing for sales and service) or they are hanging on to try and hit those higher volumes and getting increasingly price sensitive.

The Q5 has the engines that appeal to the majority but its been a round a while now, the X3 is newer, there is a new Evoque, and lots of other updated models that compete at certain parts of the range (including the Q3!). They will be working to shift it. Its a good car (I think my SQ5 is great) but its not an exciting model now.

@X3man - I have just agreed sale of my SQ5 and going over to BMW too....

"I think my SQ5 is great"

Me too, our 2016 SQ5 is a cracker...

SQUIFFY 2

Did a back-to-back with our RS3 earlier this week; 2 x 15-mile runs (there and back), same roads, same journey time, but 12-mpg difference - advantage SQ5, and so much more for us from the SQ5, really... :racer:

Indeed, there really isnt any need for any more car than the SQ5 these days (to be honest, a 2.0TFSI quattro is probably all you will ever need). Howveer, "want" does tend to overrule "need" for many of us....

Agree 100% Is why we'll hold on to our TT roadster and RS3 for a while yet but in truth our SQ5 does as much as either of those will do 90% of the time and then more. I've driven the Audi range, many times, both on road and track and this SQ5 - as it did back in 2015 at the ASN meet at Stafford Audi - still buzzes me lots! And yes, I've looked at the BMW and Porsche and Landrover et al both petrol and diesel alternatives but the 2016 AUDI SQ5 is for me/us soooo complete in every way - not even 'almost' - but 'every'...

And no, I don't like like 2017/18/19 SQ5 versions or I'd have one.

No, 326 PS @ 4000-4500 rpm and 650 Nm @ 1400-2800 rpm (and 47mpg, even, when being overly 'nice') 2016 SQ5 is the one to have; tis a lotta FUN, especially for a pair of 70+year olds, neither of whom can remember being overtaken recently... :racer:

Cannot wait for the snow to see how this SQ5 compares with our RS3 which was just mega brilliant - on the right wheels and tyres of course (for sale soon):

Absolutely! I had a 2.0TFSI Q5, did everything really well, but dull

All good points, a few on this forum have gone for Evoques, and others.

Nice, so what is next for you?

:thumbs up: You're aware of our situation, Nev, so you'll be in no doubt when I say if there was anything that suited our circumstances better, with equal FUN, than this 2016 SQ5 then we'd have it already...

New/facelifted Q5 out in November. Expect it will be at Frankfurt in September.

The only thing that i will be upset about is the new touch screen interior - the amount of times people get in my car and try to press the display etc - other than that I'll keep mine for a few more years just to help smooth out the depreciation!

Its a bit of a shame that they feel the need to update them every two years tho.

Also swapping SQ5 engine back to diesel

Those links do nothing to explain why what I wrote was "completely wrong" so why don't you try instead.

Just because Auto Excess, the Daily Star of car mags, says something doesn't make it fact!

Sorry but I can't help you with your assumption but I feel the motoring press has inside information, when it is quite clear the facelifted Q5 isn't appearing at the show, as publicised by non car trade journals as well, then the car will not be available this year.
The actual period of when the vehicle does vary but the consensus is not this year. However if you have solid information to the contrary then please share...

To be fair to Audi (in a negative way) the current MMI user interface with the centre controller is a complete dogs-breakfast of usability, up until the current version it wasn't a bad effort. On the RS4 I really disliked it - if voice command failed then navigating through the system, clearly designed for LHD vehicles was a dire experience.

Whatever the user interface is there should always be alternatives to using it to that of just touchscreen...

Agreed, in the BMW you can go touchscreen in you want, such as when stood still. But the iDrive controller, voice commands and touchpad to draw on work fine for me.

The move to touchscreens May save money and look swish but it takes away a good selling point they had in a world of touchscreens...

Hopefully government's and safety legislation will outlaw the use of touchscreens whilst the car is on the move, they are no different to the use of mobile phones. For some this sort of technology is far too complicated and technical anyway...

Hard to press on the move too as my finger is always moving around in time with the UK potholes!

I am very surprised they didn't make the interior more like the E-tron with dual touchscreens etc and the outside doesn't look like a huge update either.

No reason to change then.

.........i know what you mean about the new touch screens. I had a 19 plate S6 for 3 weeks while my SQ5 was having some warranty work done. The touch screen was a pain & gets covered in finger prints no matter how clean you'r hands are.

Have touchscreen in my M40i, always use dial Oh dear, no more dials on Audi’s. Expensive but if kit that dial

I have a 2015 Q5 TDI. Engine failed at 61,000 miles. Metal found in the oil circuit. Is this normal? It's out of warranty and the dealer, and apparently Audi corporate, are like "too bad", that will be $20,000 to fix.
