Hi guys and girls. Car is up on axle stands while the wheels are out for refurb. New front discs and pads aswell as hopefully the pics will explain that. But upon being under the car I have noticed oil on the subframe just at the back of the block where the gearbox mounts. Notes- it runs fine, no warning lights no oil loss issues as I've been checking regularly and no smoke. Now I have sometimes had a bit of oil misting at the side of the turbo again in pics but never any problems. Clean off and drive. (Not sure if the side in question is intake or exhaust) anyone had this and shed some light as to common or possible issue. Cheers people.

Ressurected this thread fella lol. Ive since traded up for an A7. What I can sya though is I ended up getting the turbo rebuilt early on in the year as I noticed small amounts of blue smoke on cold start and true enough the oil seals inside the turbo were perished so caught it in time but the oil coming back through the intercooler pipes and into the turbo I believe from what the mechanic said was the oil breather/separator for the crankcase. They are a common problem I believe that the centrifugal separator perishes and blows it back into the system but I never had it changed.

As above the crankcase breather is knackered and needs replacing or stick a cheap catch can system in. Also disconnect the pipe going to the passenger side intercooler and watch the oil drain out, you will be surprised how much is there. Then just stick a load of degreaser around that area to remove the thick of it.

So is it just a case of replacing the crankcase breather pipe or is it the oil separator that needs replacing to rectify the problem?

Do you think your turbo would have lived for longer if you had replaced the oil separator sooner?

Regarding the catch can system, can you give any more guidance on this? What's involved in installing one? Is it expensive? Does it need a lot of pipework? Can it be bought off the shelf or does it need special fabrication?

Apologies for all the questions but no idea what a catch can system is.

Definitely should of delved deeper when the turbo was off but tps wanted 140 quid for a new separator which I thought was steep and yes definitely would of saved the turbo if id knew before.

I never fitted a catch can system, I replaced the breather https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threa...and-repair-thread.211351/page-11#post-2775279 It's not an easy job, and requires a fair amount of strip down and lots of new gaskets + the cost of the new breather.

For the catch can system your best off using google and checking out ebay, they are expensive & cheap versions so up to yourself which you look at buying.

Do you know what page of the thread has the necessary info? I trawled through the first 4 pages and then gave up!
