Looking to purchase the RS5 grill for the S5, can anyone recommend where to get one from?

Also I am hearing people say I have to cut bits of my bumper, is this correct? What do I need to cut and when I want to put the original back on will this be a problem?

Anyone got step by step instructions?

Literally had an RS grill fitted today, looks mint No modifications required. Got mine from a chap on Instagram "Fresh_Modz_UK" looks fantastic

Got it fitted by local bodyshop:

£110 for grill (usually £220)
£120 for 2 hours to fit grill and replace rear chrome rings to black

how did you get the grill for £120?
Ordered plenty of stuff from him, but also someone else ordered the grill and didn't listen to instructions on removing the Audi rings so broke the retention clips and ended up gluing the rings on. So said if you don't mind that you can have it for cheap which I didn't

oh nice.

I have sent him a message on insta, lets see what he says

It doesn't clip on using the OEM clip so will probably leave off, or alternatively could glue it on. Will need to double check at some point.

Interested to hear you didn't need to modify anything, mine required the foam bumper pad to be cut for it to fit properly, ended up ordering a new one and cutting it to fit.

Mine was also done by an Audi Master Tech too so I know it was done properly.

He couldn't modify the foam due to the crash sensors in it and the wiring for my car, but the grill still fits without pushing or pressing on the foam, he said it was one of the easier grills he's had to fit with some aftermarket ones being a right pain!

Almost done! I get it back at the weekend (just waiting for the bonnet respray)

Looks amazing. I have mine and just need to fit it

did they need to do any modifications to fit the bumper?

Nope - no cutting or adapting needed at all. The company installing it emailed a number of photos as the foam impact protector is pretty visible through the grille so they’ve moved the number plate up a little from that photo just to cover it a little more - but I suspected that’d be the case anyway - and as it’s a dark grey / black I’m sure that in anything other than direct sunlight it will hardly be visible. They don’t think it’s paintable as the surface would flake too easily and I’ve searched online and can’t find any sort of cover.

Perfect thanks,

is there no way of doing a vinyl wrap over the protector?

Quite possibly - if I’d done it myself I might have tried covering the radiator and plasti-dipping the foam in front of it. Unfortunately I’m away on holiday while they do it and as all contact has been via email. TBH, looking at other photos of the grille installed it doesn’t look too bad. Hopefully I’ll still be saying that when I see it myself on Saturday but if not I might remove the grille and try something DIY style.

Mines the same mate (foam visible) and I hardly notice as the foam is black. Thought it'd annoy me when I first collected but a few weeks on and I don't even notice it and extremely happy with how the car is starting to look.

This is really tempting me to get one ordered for mine, it looks great with the RS Grill :footy:

I’ve never before modded a car - always preferred the OEM look - but this is well worth it. ‘S’ with the standard grille doesn’t look anything special - with this RS style one it does - just wish I’d gone Daytona now (didn’t because IMHO it didn’t match the grille and chrome trim (which I think I’ll now Plasti-Dip)).

£220 is a bargain for something that changes the look so significantly and freshmodsuk was brilliant to deal with (even reassured me when paying through PayPal which I’d only ever used to ‘named’ shops and eBay etc.).

I’m pretty sure that with the right tools, fitting it yourself wouldn’t be too tricky (only difficult part would be access through the wheel arches and as I’ve changed fog lights before which require this I’d probably have done it myself if it wasn’t for it being booked in for the bonnet respray anyway - and then only charging £70 to fit.

Yea chap behind Freshmods is a top bloke and very up front. As I said in my post the guy that fitted it said it was a lot easier then other aftermarket grills to fit. Plus for £220 full price (not that I paid that :p) it's a cheap mod which makes a huge difference

Must be killing you? I was lucky that mine arrived the day before I went away and it was in for a respray and fitting while I was away so was fully done when I got back a week later

Since then, I’ve tried vinyl wrapping the chrome window trim (that didn’t go too well as some of the rubber around the chrome is too hard to move for someone without any expertise like me and the chrome itself has little give in it in some places. And with my levels of OCD, if it wasn’t perfect, it was coming off).

Then tried Plasti Dipping, which took hours to mask off and then was more difficult than the YouTube videos implied (again, for an amateur like me) to actually get on in without drips and runs (although I do think this has the potential to look quite good if you knew what you were doing). It did however give me a good idea what it’d look like as I removed the masking with it still in place and stood well back (far enough to not see the drips and runs). In all honesty, I wasn’t too convinced, that on black at least, the chrome doesn’t look too bad.

I did ring a vinyl wrapping place with very good reviews and they wanted £155 +VAT to wrap the window trim in gloss black - which I might still do if I sell my old original S5 grille.

I'm getting mine redone mate. Windows, side fender grill things, mirrors and boot for £240 including VAT.
They said the window trims are hard but you can get the vinyl tucked in if you lift the rubber out of place.

Note that £48 of that quote is the cost to remove the vinyl done my the other guy (got a refund finally through my credit card). Turns out he's cut a fair bit of the rubber round the windows and along the spoiler. Fuming!

Admittedly does look a lot better, but I hate when S cars try to look like RS models. Pet hate

Only because you have one and you don't want to lose the exclusivity... but then S3's are ****** everywhere arent they?

However, the new S5 (diesel) has the RS style hex grille though according the spy shots and press shots I’ve seen so far.

Personally don’t see anything wrong with it as long as you don’t try to badge a car up like something it’s not.

I’d never even lightly modified any previous car and did my S5 grille because I didn’t like the standard one - if Audi had done a black edition I’d have never needed to change it.

My grille came with the RS5 badge attached, so I ordered an S5 one and replaced it.

The thing with badging cars as something they’re not is that anyone who knows anything about cars (and their badges) can probably spot the tell tale signs that the cars been re-badged. And anyone who doesn’t understand the badges and models - it’s completely wasted on! Just my two peneth worth for what it matters.

Does anyone know if Fresh Mods do the Grille in the Chrome finish? Black looks good but think it would match my S5 with the Chrome better.

I think he did 12 months ago when I got mine done as I had to specify trim / rings colour etc when ordering - why not drop him a message (I’m sure his details are somewhere else on this thread)?
