Matt’s Defender Build Thread.

decided its not really worth the cost when the paint isnt anywhere near corrected, and and hardly swirl free, just bringing it back to life a bit, trying to avoid getting sucked into caring for the paint as I'll be honest, i dont miss it one bit :whistle2:

****** lazy Barsteward............lol

the poor ol' bus got rear ended on our way back from loch lomond, walking a few munros this weekend....new rear door, panel, spare wheel carrier, rear bumper and a few lights...
the van that hit us, probably written off.....don't run into the back of landys, the solid steel bumper doesnt shift a lot

Sorry to hear about your rear end calamity.....but as you stated the steel bumper gave worse than it received. I miss the days when steel bumpers were on most vehicles. No damage from people hitting your steel bumper on parking maneuvers....todays plastic coverings, a minimum of 500 quid to fix minor scrapes.

Got to think about the poor pedestrians when you hit them with steel bumpers
Same with bull bars. Some suv don’t look right without them.

So this is how she looks...not so bad at first glance, bent the wheel carrier but the wheel carrier itself has pushed the center if the rear door inwards and thrown it all out of line....insurance job on

Front and rear anti roll bars fitted, and new springs and shocks....went with a 2inch lift and it sure if its sitting a but height...especially with it being a short wheelbase

A snorkel and you are ready for some serious off leading.
think i've already decided, going to have to go back on standard height springs....not a fan of the lifted look at all :wtf:

and if standard height keeps me on very sensible green lanes....thats fine by me!!

I agree, not a fan of the on stilts look.

Slightly related but totally unrelated at the same time......I really fancy one of those new Jimny's, enquired about one and it would be a 12-18 month wait!!!

Yeah it's going back down to standard on tuesday.

Seen a lime green one in ambleside this weekend just gone, look a neat little car!

Sorry to hear of your collision Matt, glad everyone is ok though.
We're heading north shortly again - can't wait (and neither can the dog).

Thanks pal, just a pain in the back end waiting for insurance and having it off the road for a bit, especially as we are away in a week!!

Ooo where are you headed for?? I'm itching to get up to torridon, but would need guaranteed weather...

Matt, what was the handling like on the 2" lift...a wee bit unsettling as you cornered, methinks?

Well I went straight from standard height and no anti roll bars, to 2" inch with anti roll bars, so it feels way better, will report back when its normal height with roll bars!

We’re heading up to the Moray Coast. Staying in a wee place not too far from Lossiemouth and Elgin. Love that area, been going since I was a kid.

Guaranteed weather! In the UK? :whistle2::tearsofjoy:

Well as long as mine is legal on the road being a diesel I'm happy with what I have got :thumbs up:

Dont get me wrong, I was expecting worse....but they could have done a lot better in my eyes, and I've just seen the adventure pack spec price....good grief

Cheers man!

The 110 starting at 45k and a 90 starting at 40k....mental, sure it will be a great machine but they're going for a complete different market from what the o.g defender had.

Cant see a old s**t up farmer jumping in his brand new 45k landy :whistle2:

I have to laugh at that comment.....I learned how to operate a car on my Uncle's farm at the tender age of eight, that vehicle was a Landy and I also put into the bushes and down into a burn (stream). A few paint scrapes but that was it. That new 110 or 90 would never see that type of service.

Just seen the 3.0l 400hp variant spaced to 97k?!?!?!

But of a gamble having such a steep price with their sales right across the board taking a dip? Surely that would be a sign to stick with the original defender price bracket, but hey ho, I'm happy with the rattle box

At 97k it’s never gonna see mud let alone the really rough stuff.
I do like that adventure pack version. Looks like its at least ready for some rough stuff:wink:

Finally got the landy back, new rooftop tent on, and fired a big ol' peli case on the roof for storage...much needed when going to scotland for a long weekend with 2 dogs
