Stg 1 on an s3 transforms it to better than 8v performance with no other mods. Its not really modding as its what the car should have been from the factory anyway. Even just a generic Revo map will add 40bhp which is just what it needs.
I bought my S3 new in 2011 and had revo stg 1 by 800 miles. then APR 2+ at 70k miles and its never missed a beat, still on original coils etc

Nice mate....I assume you still have it 8 years on then? Got any pictures?

10 years here in manual s3.
60000 miles on the clock and it doesn't lack anything (well, it's mildly modded:whistle2:)

Taken a couple of months ago and yes it has got black and white seats :) just not a sport back, now on 85K miles and showed 381bhp last year when last on the rollers.

Amazing......had any serious issues over the years or just the normal maintenance costs?

There is a couple on autotrader at the mo. One is the spec you're after but high miles (private sale too). The other is good miles, grey seats but probably priced a little too high...

Yeah I've been all over autotrader like a rash since looking out for one....think I know which one you're about, shame about the miles

Yes i had but that was entirely because of my fault + the guy i trusted with all the work was idiot.
1. Had to do input shaft mod so i can quick shift at the redline (just because i had loba/sach smf combo).
2. Excesive smoking at idle and blown turbo seal caused by the bad/stuck catch can hoses. This one wouldn't happen if the guy did check the stuff i told him to check couple of times i took the car in or if he didn't lie that he did it..

Unfortunately, over here we have to deal with mediocre mechanics that think they are smartest guys in the world..

Unfortunate experience but over 10 years that's not bad....quite impressed you've managed to stick with the same car that long.

I've had my fare share of horror stories with cars and mechanics but thankfully found a pretty trust worthy garage.

What made you go with the manual over DSG, just personal preference?

Not bad at all, right?
Got the manual because back in 2009 when i got the s3 there were stories that dsg is crap and it wouldn't handle increased power. It turns out that manual gearbox can't handle it.
But I really enjoy driving manual s3, especially now when i can quick shift above 6k rpm.:racer:

Not really stuck with it since i love it.
I love the looks, and it has all the mods, plenty of power, and love the fact that it just goes in every weather/road condition.
It's kinda a sleeper since it's debadged and got plenty of "hey, nice s-line you got there"

Funny you should say that S because that's always been my thought re Sleeper. I have gone out of my way to keep this a bog std looking S3. not a real problem because the 8p looks good anyway. Cant say i would ever buy an 8V though.

Ahhh I see.....I was so set on manuals up until last year when I had my dads jaguar which was auto for about 4 months and turns out I loved it. Plus I really fancy the flappy paddles but I do feel I'll miss manuals as you're more in tune with the car. If I had the money and not my motorbike costs monthly I'd definitely get some oldish BMW (<should I mention that on here:fearscream::tearsofjoy:) for the rwd and manual weekend fun. Each to there own though.

Sounds like a wicked car though dude. What's the situation with this quick shift above 6k rpm? Hear of like quick shift rods installed on cars

****** hell....what happened to original diff? What have you been up to? :tearsofjoy:

I do love the standard look especially the sportback, if your packing some heat under the bonnet as well I'm sure you'll some surprise some people....do agree regarding the 8V as well. 8P is just perfect in my eyes. Definitely going to purchase a standard one as well....don't trust some people out there and heard some bad stories about remappers thinking they know what they're doing

A DSG box is not like your dads Jag auto
Its a manual with auto change if required. Its sequential like your bike and it doesnt have a torque converter. Mastering really quick driving using the paddles or the rally type gear stick which is just a switch is hugely rewarding. I have never met anyone who has lived with DSG who says he waould go back to manual.
You need to test drive one.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself properly. I enjoyed the auto box in my dads jag, therefore it made me even more interest in the DSG. Am I correct in thinking theres three options. Full auto, flappy paddles or the + and - like rally cars? Either way the main reason for me is the flappy paddles and not having to actually manually shift into each gear.

I assume you have a DSG, if so what do you think about the short paddles? Noticed you can get extensions.

I don’t find the short paddles a problem as they move with the steering wheel. If you hold the steering wheel correctly, the Paddles are at your fingertips all the time unless it’s a tight corner in which case you should not be changing gear mid corner. On open roads and gentle bends you will be able to change gear without crossing your arms.

I have loba/sachs single mass flywheel and clutch combo fitted (stock clutch was slipping after a while at stage2).
It was beautiful at first but after few thousand miles i couldn't upshift quickly above 6k rpm.
The thing is that manuals have bearing on only one side of the input shaft while dsg ones have on both sides. So on manuals with smf, input shaft develops play on the free end that causes issues with shifting above 6k.
The fix was input shaft mod-input shaft was extended and the pilot bearing (from dsg) was added. So now it has bearings on both sides. Upshifts are nice, fast and smooth now at any rpm.

I don't think I've ever been this paranoid about buying a car, possibly due to it being the most I've spent on one. If you guys where looking for an S3 8P what would you be looking out for maybe in the advert itself and once viewing the vehicle.

I feel I have a pretty good ball **** radar regarding adverts and it's quite obvious who doesn't care about the vehicle and who does.

What do you think of the above link?

Looks to me to be exactly what you were looking for, nothing jumps off the page at me as being dodgy, Looks like enthusiast owned and he has obviously gone for all the right bits.

Its exactly what I'm looking for problem is it's a little out of my price range. I'm going to contact the owner and see if theres anything we can agree to

good for you, you are going to really enjoy 370bhp and dsg :)

Absolutely. Max I've had is 300bhp so this is going to be wicked. I was worried about buying one with mods and a remap already done so I was originally looking for a standard one but this just looks spot on and a decent example.

Throughout my research I've noticed that R-Tech are the guys everyone uses so I feel I can trust this one?

I'm hoping to head up on Monday to have a look, do you have any suggestions on what I should look out for?

Only the obvious, at 60k miles its just run in so should be like a new car mechanically, mine is 2011 and done 85k now but it's as sweet as a nut, tickover you might think its stalled and gear changes should be seamless.
I suppose as the guy seems to be on top of it he may have an OBD lead so maybe he will just show you there are no major fault codes.

Looks like it’s exactly what you described as looking for and looks like it’s been looked after. It sounds like the type of car you’d ideally like to buy.
I’d just see if the cambelt is due a change and also see if the Haldex has been serviced. With it having Audi service history they may have done a haldex service but that is just changing the oil. Audi don’t recognise that it has a filter so if you get this car then it may be worth changing the haldex filter and oil as soon as you get it because if you don’t the haldex filter will get gunked up and the haldex pump will fail so you’ll then have to change pump, oil and filter.

Absolutely mate. I've asked the owner and the cambelt, waterpump and haldex has all been done. I'll make sure I get proof of this when I go to see it

Just bear in mind then if the haldex were serviced at Audi then the filter will not have been changed, so if you were to buy the car then I’d recommend buying a filter(gen 4) sooner rather than later and get it changed.

Ah right I see. I'll ask if that's been done and get proof, if not I'll replace it when I get it back. Thanks

Same car is on eBay for £13,750 or best offer so take that into consideration
