What brand are genuine brake pads?

Hi everyone, would anyone let me know what brand are the genuine brake pads.
I tried looking at mine (genuine), but writing is worn and on google I found different answers (Pagid, Brembo, TRW, Ate)
I would like to avoid the genuine Audi at inflated price if I can get the same ones without the Audi logo.

TMD friction make 85% of the main manufacturing sector discs and pads. You would have to call and ask them the equivalent OE brand.

Fit Brembo, they are very good with brakes for starters

As a standard pad they are one of the best you can buy in my opinion, recently had a 1200 mile trip round to Scotland, and a 8 hour drive out round the highlands, I was in convoy with much quicker machinery than my lowly c5 s6 on standard HP2 brakes and they coped, ok a couple of times I could tell they had started to cook but they survived the battering and without any squealing or other issues, not bad considering every other car was faster and had better brakes than me.

They are quite dusty though, but to be fair I know Pagid are bad too.
 
Audi's main brake suppliers are either TRW or ATE, with the exception of the RS models which are Brembo

I've narrowed it down to TRW, Ate and Brembo.
Now, to complicate matters, which one do you prefer for my A6 3.0L TDI quattro estate?

I like the idea of these Ate ceramic pads.
Anyone tried them?
Otherwise i'll go with brembo.
I have them on the Passat and they are great.
 
I haven’t tried ATE ceramics but I’ve got EBC reds (ceramic compound) on the S4 and they are good and produce hardly any dust.

One last thing, do i need a special tool to push back the piston or is it the same as VW where I can use a big G clamp?
First time I do the brakes on an Audi.

Front or rear? If rear you will need a diagnostic tool to wind the piston back in.
 
Hi again everyone, eventually i went with brembo and I'm happy with them.
After doing the front with your help, it's now time to do the rear, can you please guide me towards a winding back tool for rear brakes on my A6 3.0l quattro estate?

I saw this at eurocarparts but they can't confirm if it's suitable:

Don't mind spending a bit more for a tool that would work for many years, possibly on my Passat B5 as well.
A kit perhaps.

The C6 chassis requires the use of VCDS to operate the electronic handbrake, you can’t change the pads without it as far as I’m aware.

edit: with VCDS you don’t need the wind back tool, that’s only for manual handbrake cars, last car with EBP I did was the A8 so I couldn’t tell you in the procedure for the C6 unless they are the same.

So in other words is something only main stealer and dpecialised garages can do?
 
Well I managed it, so anyone with half a brain and the VCDS tool or something like the Snap-On tool will be able to do it.

because the handbrake is electronic you need to talk to the controller to open the caliper then re-set the controller to the new pads, the distructions are all online somewhere, from doing the A8 iirc it can be finicky and you have to make sure the whole process is done otherwise it won’t accept the new pads.

it’s not as scary as it sounds you just need to make sure VCDS has done everything and accepted everything whilst going through its process.
 
I don’t know, I’d assume it needs the full version, iirc lite is only for reading fault codes and erasing them.
 
You need to make sure that once you have ‘opened’ the brake calipers using a Diag tool that you keep the key in the ignition. Once you have then changed the pads you can then just simply turn the ignition back on and ‘close’ the calipers.

When the ecu opens the caliper it will wind back the internal plunger that pushes against the piston, all you then have to do physically is push the piston back just like the front caliper, no winding on a thread. Once you’ve then fitted your pads and everything’s tight, you would then tell the ecu to close the caliper and it will basically put the handbrake on. This is how it learns it’s new pad position, it’s then self learning each time your pads wear.

I've just fitted Brembo discs and pads to the rear of my S5, £101 from ECP, bargain!.
 
Hi everyone, so I had some trouble coming my way and had to reschedule the brakes job.
Now i'm getting better and want to attack this before the new year.
Question:
I have seen videos about replacing rear brakes without vcds.
This for example:



Is it something that would ruin the car or a simple loophole that works fine?
I want to do as much as possible myself and keep my car for as long as possible like my Passat, but don't know anyone who would come along with vcds just for a 2 minute thing and a token.
Frankly paying someone hundreds in labour just to replace pads is against my religion
