Hi all,

short intro - basically have zero clue about any car, let alone Audis, but I'm about to buy my second Audi and want to change a couple of things about it.

I have been Googling and detected some comments that threw me a bit, so I've bit the bullet and joined up to ask you guys.

I'm looking at getting a 2016 A4 Avant Ultra Sport this week and I want to tint the windows and upgrade the alloys from 17inch to 18 or 19inch. Even second hand alloys as long as they're not too aftermarket looking. Want to maintain as much of a factory look as possible.

I read comments saying that 18inch and larger alloys look silly on the Sport model as it sits up too high and will sit even higher on larger alloys. Is it generally the case that you need to lower the suspension to make the car look decent on larger wheels?

Other question is about window tinting. Usually I'll go as dark as possible, and this was fine on my A3 Sportback as it was grey with black window wills. This new A4 will be Scuba Blue with chrome sills. Do you think a dark tint would look quite poor and I should go lighter?

Any ideas on either of these?

Not sure about the wheels - I have 18's, and it doesnt look silly. Though I have been contemplating getting 19's, or lowering, as there is a bit of a gap between wheel and arch that would look better closed.

As for tint, nah, dark tint should be fine. I've got chrome sills, and a dark tint. No complaints.

Changing wheel size does not make a difference to suspension height. The gap between the wheel arch and the tire will be the same whether you have 17 or 19 inch wheels. I think your model should come with sports suspension which is already 20mm lower than the standard.

I'm interested in getting 19's on mine. Currently has standard s-line 18's which are in perfect condition, it's a 2017 but I only bought the car 2 weeks ago from an approved dealer if that provides any confidence in their condition.

I'm not actually ready yet to buy the 19's as I need to do some research into who makes decent replicas and who to avoid as I can't see me being able to afford brand new genuine Audi 19's.

But if you decide on 18's and are interested in mine then give me a shout via PM.

Just not the case in reality because tyre manufacturers don't produce tyres to exact sizes .

Plus sizing = plus rising

What normally happens is the upsizing causes with the so called correct sizes the chassis to be lifted , on non lowered standard suspension cars can look 4x4 like .

I noticed this nearly 15 years ago on a car low with coilovers with scary front splitter and big speed bump chassis rail clearance had a welcome but mysteriously increased ride height going the next size wheel up and correct tyre sizes .

So I looked into it and found the proof...

The back of the Sport models do look like they sit up quite a bit.. even though as MOA4BP said earlier it's been lowed 20mm. Not sure I'd want to make that worse. Really would be less hassle just buying an S Line if I could have found one in blue with low mileages anywhere nearby. Just not many around..
