Aarons S4 Saloon

Hi Guys.

Haven’t done much lately in the way of modifications.
But I have an update with the ecu cover temperatures. There is no increase under the cover where the ecu heat sink is. I had been getting readings 4°c lower than engine bay temperatures which to be honest I was surprised by.

Also I have been following some interesting posts over on another forum regarding the hybrid turbo for the S4 and progress looks to be good so far.

Managed to get the front splitter, rear spoiler and fog overlays fitted today.
Looks lots more aggressive now.
Also a massive thanks to @Spaceman_RS3 for the sideblades and @rasA4 for the eBay link.
Car is coming along nicely, next will probably be some spacers and some coilovers.

Hopefully the weather is nice on Monday and I will give it a damn good clean.
Loving that spoiler!
Where did you that from and did you have to remove the stock spoiler first?

cheers!

Thanks, it was an eBay bargain of the century because it is a genuine Audi spoiler. There are a few on eBay but Quite expensive. I did remove the standard lip first.

Did you remove it by heating it up?
Mines white and I really want a black one.

Yes slowly heated up and used trim removal tools to lift. It was very difficult to remove and where it stressed the standard lip it bent it so much it probably won’t go back on so easy.

I get excited when I see progress like this.

Its a lovely looking car as it is especially in that colour and to me each piece of carbon you stick on detracts from the cars looks

I must be the only one wants to keep my s4 looking as "ordinary " as possible. surely thats the whole point of the s4.

I am even tempted to get rid of the stupid V6 badges on mine

I understand the understated look but I want it to stand out and look more like the 52k price tag that it was. Not look like a A4 rep car. I Don’t think the rs is worth the extra 20k.

Playing devil’s advocate... surely that £20k gap becomes smaller over a period of time?

The RS4 will depreciate less than the S4 which narrows the gap?

The the cost of mods will all start to add up and after, let’s say, 3 years the figures balance out pretty evenly? Or leave only a small price gap between them?

Very good point. I would probably rather have the customised car as it’s a little different but each to there own. I do want an Rs6 though.

Little update:

I have pulled the trigger on the JB4 unit with the BCM. Hopefully have it by next weekend for Install and testing.

Had a little play around this weekend with the Jb4. I Also had the Bluetooth module and the Boost Control module installed. Total cost of £800 but I’m my eyes worth every pound. As you can see a massive improvement. Car is a different beast now.

Ah so the JB4 is finally available. Took a while. I had a JB1 on my golf r and was impressed and would of took the JB4 if it had been available for the s5 over a tuning box.

I know it has been around for some time now but had lots of bugs and stuff but it’s a stable platform now. Very impressed that’s for sure.

Coming to this thread very late I appreciate.

Where did you source the CF splitter.

Is it attached with self tappers?

Any other pics of it would be appreciated.

Cheers

On the topic of the Jb4, how are the gear changes at the higher boost levels (map3+) are they jerky as per the other piggy backs?

What app/bluetooth module are you using to measure those times? They look amazing.. might have to invest into the JB4

Sorry for slow reply I’ve just got back from climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. I brought it through Awesome GTI. They are a dealer for ECS tuning parts so anything you want from there they can help you with.

The gearbox isn’t jerky at all if anything having the extra power smoothed out the slight hesitations that some people experience at lower speeds.

The Jb4 is an amazing piece of kit and has made the car have the power it should come with. The app is Dragy which you need there GPS unit for can be brought on Amazon for £139 worth every penny.

I've never found jerky gearshifts to be an issue with tuning boxes so maybe you could explain further your particular experiences for those who might wish to fit a piggy back instead?

Thanks for the reply. I was a little confused as your OP said it was from EcoTune? I’ve been in contact with them and they’ve stopped supplying the CF accessories! The search continues! Might end up with a gloss black instead!

Sorry for the delayed reply. It was going to be an eco tune front spoiler but they couldn’t get it shipped unless it cost me an extra £250 so I went down the ECS route.

Finally after a long wait I have managed to see what power my car is making after installing the Jb4.

The Audi S4 owners Facebook page guys setup a dyno day at ARC tuning in Gloucester, I went there when I first got my car completely stock so was good to go to the same place.

All the guys and ladies at the event were amazing. Very nice cars from everyone with all different stages of tunes from different companies which kept people guessing figures.

My favourite car on the day was a wide bodied B5 S4 saloon it was low, wide and very powerful running 536bhp on the day but capped for drivability and reliability.

Anyhow on to what you want to here. My car with the JB4 on map 5 and the BMC drop in filter ranks the first pull was 436bhp 694nm second run 441.6bhp 702.9nm and 440.1bhp 698.7nm I’m extremely happy with the results the temperature was 80°F in the dyno cell.

Next mods for me with be a FMIC and Milltek Decat DP which I will get ceramic coated.

I had a JB1 in my Golf R and it was great. Currently have a tuning box but interested in the JB4. What was involved in getting one - just the JB4 itself or any other parts need changing? I heard it was full of bugs - all these sorted now?
Impressive figures!

It is a very clever little thing to be honest. I like the fact you can keep a close eye on stuff with all the logs and extra gauges. All bugs are gone I purchased mine once they sorted them out.

I got mine from bolt on mods with the BCM and Bluetooth connection it was £780 and arrived very quick. I’m hoping to get a decat and a FMIC ASAP and go for some more dyno runs.

I think like for like, the Jb4 seems to make 10% more than the less sophisticated piggybacks. £800 is bit of a stinger though!

It’s a little cheaper now with the gen2 because the boost control module is built in so it’s around £600 now. I like the fact you can log and check IATs and see how much boost you are pulling.
