Added too much oik

My oil level was about 50 percent on the mmi screen. I added some slick 50 Synthetic which is 750ml.

Oil level now shows max and says please reduce oil level.

Been driving super smooth no issues with 38k on the clock

Should i drain a tad out or just leave it to burn down naturally. Cant be more than 100 or 200ml over.

Would that cause a problem in time?

A very quick google search on the topic says your engine will self destruct (I'm paraphrasing of course)

I would remove the excess ASAP.

Definitely remove some oil.
Also would not mess about with oil additives either.
Long term gum build up is inevitable no matter what Halfords etc have told you otherwise.
Drop the lot, fill with lovely fully synthetic decent oil.

Oh, and buy a dipstick

Sounds stupid, but to be sure, will the MMI oil status still work if you fit a dipstick? I know the “tube” is there for the dipstick but it’s blanked off, wasn’t sure if the sensor was in the tube as a result.

The dipstick people buy are just used to check.
It does not live in the tube permanently.
Once you're done checking the oil, remove the dip stick and replace the rubber bung.
I believe the sound proof material hits the top of the dip stick when you close the bonnet, or something similar, but it's not advised to run the car with the dipstick in the tube.
I don't anyway.
The mmi resets itself once you open the bonnet, so have to wait 50 miles before you get a reading.
That's one of the reasons I bought a dipstick, you get an accurate reading immediately, not running the risk of over filling.

I just went to TPS and gave them my car details.
Iirc was about £20 I think, I may be wrong because was a long time ago.
Oddly, the Audi dealer would not sell me one.
They said it was not required or listed.

I got mine for £12 direct from Audi, was cheaper than the aftermarket places and ebay. Just have to find your part number first, I would pass mine but I got one for an S5 so likely not going to work with yours.
Equally I have left the dipstick in permanently, but it is lower than the engine cover so no rubbing issues.
