Guys, Car had its first MOT and Service last friday at Arnold Clark, which is sailed through. Looking at my dashcam footage they took it for a drive 10 mins after I dropped it off, is this normal behaviour ?

Normal for a service not mot unless they needed to use the brake check device cause the car couldn’t go on the rollers. 4wd/awd cars have issues with the mot brake rollers so they take it for a run and hit the brakes and it needs to make a certain g-force

Probably find the test drive was more for the service than the mot. When I had the S3 the Audi tech guy took it for a drive for the 1st service. 2nd service was done by a specialist...he didn't drive it. With this A5 I don't know as the camera was switched off.

MOT 3 years, isn't he bigger service at 3 as well? if so I'd bet on that's the reason.

PS: Was he careful whilst driving?

Well he put his foot down in it.

I've had many cars in for MOT's over the years. Never once known them to take it out for a test drive.

Give them a bell and ask.

I wouldn't want to pour cold water on all the speculation, but it's probably the best way to find out.

.

It is possible he was warming the oil etc up so it can get changed easier and see if any leaks , But if you delivered the car it would be warm anyway.
Then again he was possibly doing brake test or just joy tiding .
Phone them and ask why your car was seen outside the garage when it should have been getting serviced , Don't mention camera yet .

Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless your dash cam was showing they were doing handbrake turns or donuts in a car park.

Also I didnt get anything to record that it has had a service, i never got a service book with the car and Arnold Clark say that the service is logged online. But do Audi have access to this infomation? When I come to sell it do i tell the new owner you need to contact Anorld clark for the service record ? Do arnold clark update Audi? I am confused.com ????

All service records are electronic. You can get the records from myAudi or ask any Audi franchised dealers for printouts.

Not 100% sure on this but when I had the specialist do my service he did update it online, but apparently it's not 100% the same as the Audi one, as I could never see it when I looked! However, he did give me a duplicate Audi service book (he buys them in bulk) with the stamp in it, plus I did get/kept the receipt he gave me which listed the parts/miles/date/etc of the service. When I sold the car on to a sports car specialist he was happy with what I gave him and gave me about £1,500 more than Audi had offered!

You can get the service books online for about £10, if you intend to keep the car a long time it may be worth it, then get them to stamp that to show the next buyer....sometimes it's nice to see things on paper!

On my first service last month I got a print out from the dealer just basically stating that the service had been carried out. My car was not taken out on the road.
I do not like Arnold Clark as a dealer and would choose to avoid them if I can.
They have a Mercedes franchise right next door to my Audi dealer.

Are you in Perth Ron?

Electronic service records are great from Audi’s point of view, but (imho) less so for the owner. My understanding of how the system works is as follows:

When a service is carried out by an Audi dealer the details are logged into the Audi dealer system. If the dealer remembers to do it, and presses the right buttons, the service should also recorded in another system which can be accessed by the owner using MyAudi. The information in MyAudi is not as detailed as that in the dealer system, however the dealer should also provide a paper copy of the service details from his system to put in the pocket in the back of your service booklet.

Things get messy if you use a specialist for your service. Some specialists are registered with Audi, and can enter service details into the Audi system. This sounds reassuring, however these details only get into the MyAudi system, not the Audi dealer system. So when the time comes to sell your car, anyone going to an Audi dealer to check the service history will not see services carried out by specialists, even if they are Audi registered.

It therefore seems wise to do as S32B, and keep paper records of any work carried out if you want to be able to prove to a prospective buyer that you have a full service history.

No I'm in Fife but it's the Dundee dealerships I was speaking about. :)
As you are thinking though Arnold Clark also have a Mercedes franchise next to Audi in Perth. :)

Ah right. It was just with you mentioning that there was a merc Arnold Clark close by.
I had my S3 delivered from Camerons Perth and we got talking about AC near them as my previous Merc was from there. I knew AC had a reputation but it was a pre reg merc with only 50 miles on so I thought that it would be fine and it was. I don't think I'd use AC for a used one though since googling and wouldn't touch Lookers again with a bargepole.
After having a nightmare with a 3 month old S3 from Lookers, I was relieved that Camerons were the total opposite. Car was immaculate on arrival (330 miles away). I would buy from Camerons again

Presumably any dealer ( audi or not) would give you a receipt for the service, even if you had to ask for it. When you come to sell the car, there is your proof of servicing......?

Would say Perth Audi has been great to deal with from buying to servicing and even a small accident repair. Would happily buy from them again.

Never noticed a merc garage along there, just the vw, jag, Land Rover and Volvo

It's actually a few miles away at Inveralmond industrial estate....but the Dundee dealerships are literally next door to each other.

I'd agree that Perth Audi seem to be a decent dealer and the sales people seem quite competent, but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole after experiencing their 'service' department and discovering the work isn't actually performed despite being charged for it and them claiming it was done. Edinburgh Audi are no better either, and I suspect most main dealers are as bad - they know 99% of customers will never check if work has been done, they can be clever with the service videos they send so you believe they're actually doing work and they know Audi UK couldn't care less if anyone complains. I can honestly say that in my experience Arnold Clark are far better, although I wouldn't exactly recommend them either!

So I spoke to the branch manager and they are printing a copy of the invoice, they do not update audi systems so will not show in my audi app. They took my car out to test for any knocks and other noises.

This must be their policy, but I would not be happy about that and would tell them not to do it if I was aware of it beforehand.
The reason being I as the owner will be much more aware of any unusual knocks or noises coming from my car than a mechanic driving it for the very first time for a few minutes, so if I have not reported anything unusual there is no need to test drive the car. :innocent:

I think honestly he fancied a drive in a nice car, normally gets vauxhalls dropped off so when a nice looking audi gets dropped off he thought, yeah, I fancy a go in that.

Does anyone know what should be performed at what age, Car is now 3 years old 27k miles and the service I had done was oil change and oil filter and check tyre pressures and that was it.
Car had a service at 20k which air and oil filters was changed.

Test drive is def not part of an MOT.

Possible that they would include a test drive as part of an overall safety check within their policy.

Hi Guys- Have an inspection due in 26 days- current mileage 15,500.
Is this just a charge for checking what might be due in 162 days !?
Oil change due in 162 days.
On variable plan.
Haldex Oil @ 20,000 ? But will they change the filter !?
Plan B - Go Indi ?
Prost,Peter.

Should there not be brake fluid change as well or is that at 2 years , and is it extra ?

And brake fluid is usually always an optional item at additional cost. :innocent:

I would have said always....but I anticipated somebody saying they have or had a service plan that includes a brake fluid change, therefore there was no "additional" cost. :D
It is however not part of the regular service schedule. :)

Will your car be 4 years old at that point?
Well done to whoever serviced your car for actually checking if the brake fluid needed changing this time.
The majority of cars will not require a brake fluid change at the manufacturers earliest recommendation.
