Hello all.

Early hours of this morning we were woken by noise and found someone running out our front door. They had grabbed keys and were gone before I had chance to get downstairs and outside. How do i get the stolen key fob erased/upaired from my car? Is this a dealership job?

I had a similar situation last year, they took my key for my B8.5 and tried to steal my B6 and couldn’t work out why it wouldn’t unlock! I took my car to Awesome GTI and they had to erase all keys then pair my 1 remaining key to my car.

I got spare key and all old keys deleted by local key merchant £160

Bear in mind the old key will still be able to mechanically unlock the car so they can still get inside it and acess the OBD port.

That's a good point, realistically the only way to stop it is selling the car or parking it somewhere they can't drive away from or totally changing all the exterior locks which can be opened and ignition barrel (or just the one for the ignition barrel maybe unless it's keyless go in which case I guess deactivating the key so long as it doesn't have an ignition barrel might suffice, although admittedly I'm not all that clued up on this stuff).

Might be worth getting some cameras and other deterrents up to hopefully put them off a bit more too, maybe a tracker and camera in the car as well just to be extra safe.

I called local audi dealership in the end. They were extremely helpful and decoded stolen key straight away for free but think that is because they are doing a complete lock change for £600 under the insurance. Phew.

Good result! Just try to park it where it's very difficult to access/move for now, if you have another car to block it in etc. As above they'd still be able to gain physical access and code a new key via OBD, if they're already stood next to the car in that situation it wouldnt surprise me if they just smashed the window which I gather is how most OBD thefts occur anyway.

Always relocate your OBD port!!!

Another thought; do you have a friend with a garage who'd let you use it temporarily until you can make the car secure?

This top tip may struggle when the perps are up for the game and you are in the land of bye byes running out to do this.
ASN says leave it to them rather than this, graveyards are full of have a go heroes.

I have a metal baseball bat steering lock which suits this situation down to a tee  (although it seems to be sorted now, good work OP).

Looks like the below, just another thing to put people off, certainly couldn't drive the car with one on unless the car was being driven dead straight onto a truck but for that situation the wheels could always be left on full lock (I'm not that paranoid though, although I also haven't had keys taken).

I wish no1 to come to harm people ain't going to run out attacking car thieves because they seen something on a forum .

There's a reason you dont see it on the news because you would be in trouble yourself for attacking anyone no matter if they were stealing your personal property or not.:end of discction:
