My Belated build thread

This has got me thinking that I might want to get one of these ignitron ecu's. Only problem is that I'm no good with computers and wouldn't know where to start at reading the logs from the ecu.
Where would be a good place to start and learn the stuff i would need?

The ECU software is so well laid out mate you’ll pick it up in no time. I’m still getting my head around it. You can look through the software without being in your car...... so record a log file of mixed driving over 10 mins. Save and run it back and watch everything in action intensely seeing what everything does and when it does it. This is what I’ve done.

You have to physically change loads of values and flash the Ecu.... but if you did that and the car didn’t run well or at all. You would just upload your previously saved map.

there are fail safes in ignitron also... which can deal with such an event.
lean events, knock on multiple sensors, limp mode active.. but its not mapped "for" meth, so is adapting it out fuel wise, so no meth will result in same target lambda... knock events would likely get higher, but they were not turned up to 11 anyhow..
i22_limp_modes.JPG
So effectively I could run meth dependant with ignitron & if the pump/controller/solenoid etc etc fails I'd be ok as it'd detect it's gone lean & go into limp mode before any damage could occur to the engine.
Also would i be able to have two maps one for meth & one for when I've got it switched off as I wont need it running constantly?

that and/or its got adaptions to compensate for fueling, BUT ignition, and actual wmi failsafe would need to be external input into ecu to switch from "meth map" if you wanted meth dependant..
The iecu failsafes will be knock related or fuel related so will step in in the event, but indirectly based of wmi working or not. eg knock of 3 on 4cyl at same time will invoke a limp mode by default (its all configurable)

Been some time since I’ve posted anything and when is it best to post..... when you’ve either got a problem or something to moan about haha.

Car is amazing, that is for certain!

However, the other night I hit the automated gate stop hard getting onto the driveway, fortunately I was doing around 5mph or less. So hard that it actually stopped the car dead in its tracks! Moved around it and parked up. Car sounded fine, no rattles, no codes, nothing to worry about. Until I looked in the morning....

Moved the exhaust backwards about 40mm, bent some pipework and hit into the backbox silencer.

Always a silver lining and forever the optimist.... I’m going to get the 9” grinder out and slash cut those tailpipes haha.

In other news..... my dam drivers side window regulator has failed, luckily I managed to catch it so I can close the window fully until I get it fixed!

On a side note, my car drinks watermeth plentifully now I have that 2nd nozzle. I’d say with hard driving I’m getting through a AEM tank in around 200 miles hehe

ouch.. turbo/downpipe/mani all took that hit too :(

Yeah that was my biggest concern mate! I did have a good look around and all “seems” to be ok..... luckily I wasn’t going fast! Had I of and it would have been game over for sure. I’ve driven the car several times since and everything appears to be fine. Pulls hard, no faults, drinks meth. A lucky escape hopefully.

I may drop into you guys one Monday to have a catch up :) I’ll let you know in advance though.

Thats not good mate. Looks bad for 5mph but hopefully be a easy fix and there is no further damage to any other parts.

Thanks mate.... yeah couldn’t believe it. I know my exhaust sits low, but not that low. I think I’ll look at changing it for a custom job from the centre section to the back. Just so it all sits higher up into the exhaust tunnel. Going over speed bumps has been emotional as well haha

Well like I said.... always a silver lining! Heading down to Bournemouth for the weekend to open the car up and see how she fairs for a long distance. All being well, I might attend AITP19.

Did some fine fabricating last night with the 9” grinder! Haha.....

All is well with the car, down to Bournemouth without a hitch. I’m still struggling to keep my EGT probe from popping out of my manifold. Badger5 wound it super tight and had lasted a long time, 800+ miles but noticed it loose and bouncing around last night.

I’m thinking of trying a NordLock washer. Has anyone had any experience with these? Theoretically it “should” stop from loosening even under the temperatures of the manifold so I am led to believe. Also what size is the probe Is it M10?

Could you use a few drops of loctite threadlock?...I don't know if it's safe to use but can't see why not, that might stop it from lossening mate.

I expect someone with more knowledge will put me right

Wow, sorry mate..... I haven’t been on my thread in a while, hadn’t realised you replied. I think because of the heat threadlock wouldn’t work. I’ve got a nordlock washer on there now and works a charm! Hope all is well with you.

Quality...in and out just the same as you mate, glad it's sorted...Happy New Year, just in case I don't bump into you before then :smile new:

But with plenty of patients and a few ciders.... I trimmed everything so the bumper and grills went on nicely. While I had the bumper off it was time to finally fit my lovely headlights I bought off Trups. You can see the difference between the old tired headlights and the new ones!

Hi, what headlights are these please?

Hi Dude, they are headlights I bought from Trups on here. He occasionally has groupbuys on them. Or you could contact him direct and get a price. Best headlights you can get for our cars

Yeah they look very smart, what sort of price are they?

I will have a look through the forum

I missed out on the group buy so bought them direct which was a little more..... off the top of my head, I think it came to £650 but that also included all my interior and exterior bulbs, so everything matches the headlight bulb colour

Alright thanks mate.

Nice threat btw, i've had my S3 3 years now and it came with AudiSport plate holders, was hoping i'd find it on here as had a bit of work done to it and has been mapped by badger 5

Your thread giving me a bit of motivation to start sorting the bits that have been niggling me.

Thanks bud, it’s always nice to look back on with threads like these. A catalogue of works to the car and sometimes helps others out. If you want a serious thread to get your teeth into. Check out Tufftys.... he does an amazing job with write ups and pictures going through the things he does to his car. I got a lot of not the majority of my info from his thread.

Thanks, i'll have a read through.
Built a polo years ago with a 1.6 16v swap so was on ClubPolo but haven't really used forums in years. Forget the wealth of knowledge from enthusiasts rather than facebook mechanics.

Do you have a thread for the skyline?

Ah nice! No don’t have a thread on the skyline or civic anymore. Can’t even remember my usernames, etc. I have got some pictures somewhere. Will post them up when I get round to it. Skyline didn’t really amount to much unfortunately as I didn’t have the funds at the time and ended up selling it to a race team.

Well a testing day, fitted my new window regulator but noticed the one click up and down isn’t working now, I’ve tried the reset method but no joy! Any ideas guy?

Fitted my custom 200 cell Cat curtesy of Badger5 on V-Bands so easy sway in and out. This is post, post lambda sensor.... I’m assuming this won’t matter as that lambda sensor is coded out?

Changed my horns for new ones as they were weak as...... sounded like an old man grumbling haha.

And found what took the most of the damage when I hit that small metal gate stop in the road.... my downpipe! The flexi part has stretched and the metal weave has come apart! Dam! But still ok

Morning all,

Bit of an issue, picked something up in my rear near side tyre last night. Go to get it plugged and my locking wheel nut key has vanished!!!

Any ideas what’s the best way to tackle this? Looks like a spline drive but not sure on size.

I lost mine and vw gave me one for free as they have to buy a full set if the lose one do have spares but audi will have one even if it’s just to remove your locking nuts for you

Cheers TJ, I’ll see what they can do.... not much on a Sunday but can pop into tomorrow

I think if you want new locking nut you have to order the bolts aswell is what I was told but when I got there the said just to take it as they had more so you might get lucky

Good old eBay..... count your splines and get a replacement locking wheel nut key for £7.50. Winner

Still can’t get my window to one click though grrrrrr

not even by holding the button up for 5 seconds while powered on?

<tuffty/>

Yeah I did give that a go mate, will try it again incase I counted a fast 5 seconds. Bit odd though as it’s the same motor.

Still no dice on the window one click, very odd. Just glad it’s working now at least, nothing worse than looking like an idiot opening your car door to get a parking ticket or a McDonald’s haha.

Little update, managed to get to the car this weekend. To help a fellow member out with an exhaust and to finish up on the battery in the boot.

Excuse the mess of the back, the cars going to be undergoing an extreme deep valeting once I’m all done, this is the new boot floor level.... still lots of useable space.
edd15127c33b0121cc7b8d1cfc448c03.jpg

This was from an Audi A3 8P, raises the boot level enough to miss the battery and retains all the standard tools and Jack! Took a fair bit of trimming to get it to fit nicely, I used a grinder with a paddle sanding disc and a hacksaw.

Once I’d finished that, I went back to relocating my catch can. I didn’t like where it was originally and now the battery is in the boot, got plenty of room for it there to be hidden. Once I fitted it all I did a smoke test, no leaks at all in the system sooooooo, that made it very clear my MAF is what’s been playing up, I’ll be ordering a new one once I’m back from my holiday.

I didn’t get round to finalising the position, etc. Ran out of time, but I intend to mount it and tidy up all the electrical stuff, that and making proper fixings for the battery cover.

when you relocated your battery did you move the battery fuse holder aswell

Nah mate, left that up front. Just ran the live cable through to the back and a ground to the body in the boot.

Have you fitted a jump start terminal under the bonnet , my r32 has battery in the boot and has a positive terminal under the bonnet, think I will try a fit something similar, what size cable did you use?
