Hi there, close to pulling my hair out with a software fault but more importantly be because I change the car next year.

Basically the error in the photo can not be traced by Carista, or by VCDS or I believe by ODIS. It doesn’t seem to exist in any diagnostic report so can’t be cleared. Needless to say no bulbs are out and the MoT passed last month easily.

Unless anyone has any brighter ideas than the specialists I’ve seen then it looks likely I’ll be trading this in with it showing next year. It’s not as serious as an engine MiL light but still it’s not ideal.

The car is 6 years old so likely to be off to auction after part-ex, but how much do you reckon I could lose out with this fault light.

To spend money to try to fix this feels like throwing money on the fire, no guarantees and I just don’t want to dip into a savings pot meant for the next Audi...

Thank you, Paul.

Agree with Alex mate. You've got to ask yourself if you'd buy an Audi with that in the display. Find a reputable VAG independent , least they'll be cheaper than a dealership.

Thanks both, it’s already been to one coding specialist in Leeds who said the only recurring fault found was a ‘fuel filler flap’ that wouldn’t go away, no other faults certainly not light related. They also did a software upgrade that was available but it didn’t solve it.

I’m beginning to wonder whether it’s worth taking it to Audi main dealer just to get a diagnosis, even though it’s a £120 initial fee.

If you're 100% that the coding specialists you used are the real deal and they can't sort it then , yes go directly to Audi. I know I wouldn't buy a car with that fault so it really is money will spent. Speculate to accumulate and all .

Yes I’ll do that then.

However if Audi come back and say ‘yes we’ve found the fault, but here’s the potential bill...’ then surely I’m going to need to do some hard maths

Value off car at part-ex vs cost of fix

Unlike an engine malfunction light, the is road worthy and mot passable, I’d just need an idea hitch option is most cost effective seeing as this car is less than 10 months from being replaced.

Thanks!

My a3 gives this error if i accidentally hit the ligh switch with my knee. There seems to be an exra position on the switch that does nothing, but the switch turns and clicks into position. When it does this i get this error.

Cheers, I wish it was as simple as that - I’ve had a couple of replacement switches (being the cheapest option) but to no avail...

Increasingly of the mindset that regardless of cost* it’s something to leave with Sytner Audi Leeds. But I’ll also ask them about the hit on value at trade in if it was left unsorted.

*to a sensible limit!

you may want to post the vcds error here and lets see what it says. also do you have oem lights or aftermarket leds. have you checked the fuses and have you checked every light to make sure they work including emergency. its very hard to give info when we get little info so the more you post the more we can help. I just came from a stealer and the report said to replace the entire light assembly on the rear tail lights. I just needed to remove and make sure all the leds were tight and no more error. With the way techs are paid, they are not going to invest a significant amount of time when they get paid so little for the work involved. Easier for them to replace then to use their noggins. I would also check that all the connectors are getting power. better you than the tech

Had the car in at the dealer today. All sorted. There was some mis-communication on some modules and they performed a vehicle update, relevant to my 2014 model. The mis-communication meant that no faults codes were stored, which is why all the independents I visited couldn’t find anything to question, including the bulbs...

Shows that in rare circumstances, only dealers have what’s needed to perform specific updates to specific models. £198 in costs doesn’t feel too bad tonight....
