Help Please Retrofitted a B9 frameless rearview mirror to B8.5.

Hi

Has anyone managed to retrofit a B9 rearview mirror (8W0857511989) on a B8.5?
It was almost plug and play but the wiring is apparently a bit different and now I get an error message for the left indicator which works just fine...

You’d need to compare the current flow diagram for both to see what you have / don’t have.

You can pay for timed online access to ERwin. 13 euros gets you an hour worth of access but you can print all the drawings to pdf for later use.

Did you end up having to change the wiring at all to get the mirror to work or was the mirror plug and play?

Well, it's not throwing any more errors but I can't really say if it's dimming or not...
The little one's on holidays so no school rides these days and very little time spent in the Audi as I'm driving my smart to work.
And without schematics I can't check if it's fine like this or if I need to shuffle the connections around...
All I can say is that it looks way better so for now it stays

From what I can tell from the schematics the B9 mirror should have the following pinout:
Pin 1 - Goes to the fuse box
Pin 2 - Goes to earth
Pin 3 - Goes to CAN high
Pin 7 - Goes to LIN Bus
Pin 8 - Goes to Can low

The B8.5 mirror on the other hand appears that it should have the following pinout:
Pin 1 - Goes to fuse box
Pin 2 - Goes to earth
Pin 3 - Goes to CAN high
Pin 4 - Goes to driver/passenger door modules
Pin 5 - Goes to driver/passenger door modules
Pin 6 - Goes to front interior light
Pin 8 - Goes to CAN low

I'm not sure what (if anything) you'd need to change though, but I hope that helps. I'm curious to see if the dimming will work because I'd like to try this on my B8.5 but I don't want to lose the auto-dimming.

Dose auto-dimming work fine?

I have 2016 Q5 and 2015 s4 both cars have same mirror (old looking), when I swap mirrors on my s4 with q5 it works like expected - review mirror dims along with side mirrors.

I've tried doing this install on both cars long time ago and found that only compass worked fine but not the auto-dim.

Played around with wires and shorted something out had to take the car to the dealer that did the repair, luckily I didn't need to pay out of pocket so be just be careful yourself and learn on somebody else mistakes.

Anyways I took it apart to compare the guts thinking that I will be able to swap things, and sure enough its a not an easy go... I though about putting the green board elsewhere and routing cables....blah, blah... just a thought...

I have all the diagrams from erwin.audiusa.com but nothing useful in there.

So my question still is has anyone figure this out?

I’d love an auto dimming frameless mirror on mine and want to know if it’s a straight swap.

Some good news for all interested in this subject!

Found a compatible mirror that is plug and play for my car 2017 Q5 all the functions are working, dimming rearview as well as side mirrors and compass.

Mirror came off A3 2020 so should be similar few years back (please double check picture for reference for that number)
