Sorry for the crazy title but I am very worried.

I put a deposit on an S3 I found on Autotrader and also got a confirmation that it was received.

I did an HPI check on the car and it was clear. (used the official HPI site)

I also went over to WBAC to value it and here is the thing it came out with a ridiculously low offer £8500 on it. I added another one and it was ok. I am going crazy right now.

What is going on here?
Any advice?

I'm thinking first of my £500 deposit and second on the car itself.

The price WBAC are willing to pay can be very different to what you need to pay to buy the car.

What year, mileages, spec etc of the car?
Car is a 09/16 with 29000 miles.
Black, Parking plus, S-Tronic, Nav, Folding Mirorrors (not sure as this doesn't come up on VIN Check)

The price WBAC are willing to pay can be very different to what you need to pay to buy the car.
I tried one with more miles than this one and it came up at about £20,000. So far I have phoned the dealer who reassured me it was ok. Did an HPI check and valuation came out ok and checked with a few other sites and it was ok but WBAC insists on giving me a valuation of £8500 for it.

Try some other sites , like a motorway and Evans . It might be a glitch on the WBAC site .

A 2016 car wouldn't trade at £8k so I'd assume an error on wbac website.

Going ahead with it seems it was an error on WBAC. Picking up on Saturday from Birmingham few miles to eat up to get back in Edinburgh :) :racer::racer::racer:

Just an update,

TL/DR: I got the car but was a bit of a roller coaster for me, maybe even the wrong choice.

The story goes:

I travel down from Scotland to Birmingham to see it and potentially buy it (backed myself into a corner there I know). I arrive, the dealer stands me up for an hour at the airport (not gonna complain cause he's giving me a lift to his place). We arrive it rains heavily, I'm having a look around notice a few stone chips and that the tires are basically bold (asked on the phone and he said they had 3-4mm left). Have a quick drive immediately notice it is louder than it should be, I ask he says its got an aftermarket exhaust but doesn't know what it is (It has a resonator delete but an original exhaust), how he failed to say this when I enquired about the car is beyond me. Car drives well, and it's not remapped, we go back I have a look at the mileage it sits at 35k it was advertised at 29k ???? I try huggling £500 down for tires and mileage I get £250. We go in sign the paperwork pay the money ask for the second key: "Sorry mate comes with only one". Did I mention the logbook hadn't come in from the trade yet so I had to file in a V62 at the post office to even think about driving it away? The cherry on top? 4 out of 6 washer jets at the front are not working.

Definitely not a nice experience of buying a car that you have worked hard to get. Would not recommend this dealer to anyone!

Moral of the story:
-Don't trust a dealer when it says that the car is very clean and in good condition.
-Do better homework especially on non-big chain dealers.
-Don't back yourself into a corner.
-These days you need to specifically ask for every single element individually or you just don't get any indication.
-Will I buy again from a small dealer? most definitely not.
-Should I have walked away? Probably, (the price was really good for a facelift and the car had the speck I wanted)
-Will I regret it? Will keep you posted on that.

I sincerely hope this does not turn into a full-on nightmare.

My actions:
- Get it into Audi asap for recoding the key and ordering another one.
- GAP insurance.
-HPI check with vin and logbook details.
-Get the car checked overall by a specialist to see if there are more issues hidden around.

As i'm writing this I'm thinking I should have walked away.

Any advice or criticism for my choice is welcome.

Situation sucks, but you made the decision and no point telling you you made the wrong call.... you backed yourself, good on you, hopefully many miles of trouble free motoring ahead

The dealer sounds a bit sketchy to be honest. Don’t forget, you still have 14 days to throw the keys back and ask you money back.
Sounds like the service you got was crap. Misadvertised milage, Tyres etc mean that he really took the rip.

Advice would be get it down to Audi asap, ask for a 144 point inspection (health check). Should be free, and will put any and all worries to bed. Of course, if they find anything, there’s ither warranty to fall back on or again, cooling off period to use....

Thanks, for the comment.
Do you know if any Audi dealership would honor the original warranty on the car, or does it have to be the one it was bought from?
Would the deleted resonator on the exhaust give them any ground to call the warranty voided?

Any Audi dealer should honour it, but I suspect the exhaust voids it... I might be wrong, but I suspect the worst.

Worst case, keep your mouth shut and hope they don’t notice. The Audi warranty runs for 3 years from delivery, so should still be covered.

Be in no doubt, you don’t need a reason to chuck it back. You might get stung for the mileage you’ve done and any costs incurred, but personally, warranty voided would make me run a mile.....

I wouldn't knock all small independent dealers. There are rogues, just like in all trades.

Your situation (to me) sound like a classic case of you've committed to putting down a deposit, and travelled a long way to buy it. I dare bet you felt pressured to completing the deal, rather than demanding your deposit back.

The Red flags for me would have been, the bald tyres. None standard exhaust (or res delete), more miles than advertised, only one key, and most importantly no logbook. I would bet that if it was a local dealer to yourself and you'd popped down to have a look, you'd have walked away.

I think we, as Brits, are too polite to say `No` or ask for our deposit back.

There are a few area's of the UK I'd not buy a car from (due to reputations) and that's Birmingham and Bradford.

Get the car to Audi straight ways and ask for a health check on it. If they raise some concerns, then you'll have something in writing to demand your money back. As said above, you have 14 days to ask for your money back if not entirely happy.

Hopefully though, Audi will give it a good bill of health. A spare key can be bought. New tyres can be fitted, and water jets fixed or replaced and the logbook will arrive shortly.

What was the name of the dealer? So we can take a look at his website and see the other cars he has advertised for sale.

Good luck, and let us know what Audi say.

Glad it drives well despite the issues and poor indy dealer experience. Some traders guarantee minimum tyre tread at time of sale - does this dealer have this guarantee on their website (separate from AutoTrader)?

Did it come with any evidence of service history? If not, and assuming it has been serviced by Audi or approved indy, you can get a copy from Audi when they inspect it, or via MyAudi app if you register the car.

Assuming you keep it after the 14 day grace period, look to get the Haldex serviced.

If you get a new key coded you can get Audi to de-register from the car the key that you don’t have, for piece of mind.

Couldn't agree with you more, I backed myself into that corner and I would have definitely walked away if I hadn't committed that much into it. The 14-day option is there. I would rather keep it cause I like it and I will take care of all these things easily.

Name of the dealer: Anderton Motor Group - hopefully, this could save someone else. Car is still on there website if you want to see it, I will get some pictures here if I keep it.

It has a FASH but as far as I can tell it was last serviced at 19k miles which means its definitely due to an oil change, haldex and possibly plugs at 35k.

One of the good bits was that it had brakes and pads renewed all around. I'm certain the dealership was driving it around hence the extra miles. The original owner forgot his license in the car and I will contact him to give it back. I might get lucky for the second key..

Will keep updating this buying SAGA

He should have got a service history print out when he received the key to the car. I picked up my a3 from Audi Doncaster yesterday (3 hour drive there with a £250 deposit down) and I was told all cars are given a printout list of all previous service history for that car. The car had two tyres with 3/4mm and two with 5/6mm tread and they replaced all four tyres for new in the MPC.

Any thoughts on the Resonator Delete Pipe voiding the warranty?

If they refuse to cover the exhaust so be it I understand that but surely not the rest of the car.

I got a VCDS any easy way to double-check if it was a remap, it doesn't feel like it does on the road but worth to double-check.

... but this is an indy, not franchised dealer. Edit - Moot point though as OP has said he has service history.

Res delete would potentially void exhaust warranty but rest of warranty should be unaffected.

Is this your car?
It shouldn't still be on the website if you've already bought it.....but maybe they haven't updated it yet.

19 inch wing arms, I wouldn’t buy a car when the dealer can’t even get the description correct.

Despite the journey I would have walked away, too many warning signs for me, I’d be returning it.

I’m considering VT’ing mine now, happy to have a chat if interested, I have a good spec 3 door stock Navarra which is very well looked after and has 2 keys.

Ah my mistake, didn’t read it properly and assumed it was a main dealer. Still half asleep

The worry I'm having is if it was advertised as having two keys and then only giving him one (not want to panic the OP) but I'd be thinking have they kept the 2nd key to come and get the car in the middle of the night?

It is indeed, they have removed it from AutoTrader but not from there.

If only it was 5dr.. can we retrofit them? :p

I was going to reprogram the existing key straight away.

Is there a safety concern even after I ask Audi to deauthorize the second key?

Haha we can try. I wouldn’t worry too much just get it insured and gap if financed.

The immobiliser won’t work but the key is still physically cut for the lock barrels so will still work to get inside the car.
I would have knocked them back another £250 as that’s more or less what a new key will cost.

Personally I would’ve run a mile but I’m overly sceptical of car dealers in general. Saying all that I bought my latest Audi from a small BMW Garage that they’d got in as a p/x and fingers crossed that’s fine. Hopefully yours is too.

One thing that I’d be getting Audi to check is that it hasn’t got any TD1 flags from being remapped, especially given the dealer you bought it from isn’t too great on the detail it seems.

Do you know how I can check the TD1, I got a VCDS if it helps I can run a scan and post it here.

I don’t think you can check via VCDS to my knowledge I think the TD1 flag is something Audi add to their own database. Some more knowledgable members may be able to comment a little more on that though.

You can’t. You would need to approach a dealership or an authorised 3rd party, like myself, in order to check.

Much rather have bald tyres that I can replace with my preference than new tyres I don't want!
Miles are just a number, as for the res delete wouldn't care less and in reality what warranty would be claimed on an exhaust?
As others have said I would book it in for a service at a main dealer, get them to check everything possible including TD1 and if all good then no worries.

Dont beat yourself up about it. Its a done deal, you have accepted it so now move on and enjoy the car. Treat it like it hasnt been loved and you will grow a certain attachment to it! Like finding an abandoned puppy almost!!

We "rightly" expect dealers to know everything about cars but they can get things wrong, perhaps an apprentice did the advert, perhaps he simply got the figures wrong. Im not excusing the dealer, it seems like he doesnt care about reputation but it didnt scare you enough when you saw the car and test drove it so you need to accept it.

Now, get an extended warranty when its near the end of the 3yr age mark and you will be fine. Perhaps delete any modifications that have been made so its "warrnty legal" again. Get some money back from the res delete if thats possible. Get the check at Audi done after you delete th emods so your local Audi dont think your a "modifier"!!

Enjoy the car :icon thumright:

Thanks for the encouragement.
The car is getting checked as we speak from D.H Automotive (site sponsors) who did a massive favour for me to give it a quick look.

If all serious stuff are good, my plan of action is as you described.

Fingers crossed.

All good with the car looks like the new member is staying with me for better or worse, got a big service bill ahead of me.
The only issue is the Haldex Coupling at the back is a little loose and could do with it being changed.
Am I right to say this is not covered by warranty?

That’s good news then, I’d try it with Audi anyway to see if they cover it under warranty I don’t see why it should be covered to be honest. Maybe remove the res delete before you do that though, in case they are funny about that modification.
