Ok so it’s is the weirdest one I have come across,

I’m working away just now and at 4.30am the Mrs is woken by the car alarm, pops the down stairs and the alarm wouldn’t reset from inside the house so goes outside.

Realised at this point the car is running!!! Yes doors unlocked alarm blaring engine running.

Sticks key in ignition turns on/off and alarm stops /engine stops, thinks all is ok so goes to bed

5 mins later alarm goes again, goes back down and again doors unlocked engine running. No keys I ignition.

This time the engine wouldn’t stop. Sent my brother round at 7am to try and help and the only way he could get it to turn off was pull the fuel pump fuse!

Then pull the alarm fuse as can’t it it to stop either.

Every time the fuse is reinstated the alarm goes.

Any ideas folks?

Called Audi uk as in my opinion it’s a safety issue but they fobbed me off.

Car is a 2013 TDS I sline

Sounds a weird one, that for sure. Best get it booked it to your local dealer straight away. In fact take it down this morning. If it's starting up, and unlocking the doors, it's a theft risk.

Cars locked in a yard now. Can’t take it anywhere as the alarm won’t go off when my brother puts all the fuses back in. Have a local independent that’s going to have a look for me if I can get it to him

it is an odd one! Only thing i cam think is the stop start system has the ability to start the engine but surely not without the immobilizer being addressed

Yeah it’s the weirdest one I can come across. Am I right in sayingvthe ignition switch would send a signal to the bcm to start the car?

I’d have expected to need a foot brake signal, immobiliser signal and the key turn signal to start. I’m guessing these would all go through the BCM. So if BCM is what initiates the start of it gets a signal then surely it must be a BCM fault! Maybe a short to positive or something

well the car can start if you touch the steering wheel while on stop start so brake/clutch arent a total necessity. I take it you dont have access to VCDS to see what error codes are? I would disconnect the battery for 30 mins to clear the modules and reconnect making sure there is a good strong 12v supply for the modules to power back up properly and then have it scamned to see if you can narrow down where the issue is.

Ah yeah never thought about that, I’m currently away from home just now. Il get battery disconnected and reconnected to see what happens before it gets picked up to go to the independent.

No chance it could have been an attempted theft? They could have messed with the electrics to try to get in and start the car? Clone key?

This has nothing to do with your problem but I'm wondering about your username....do you actually live in Kinghorn?
This is the neighbouring town to me. :D

Reasonably confident that it wasn’t as my brother says there is no damage at all. And the fact that it would t even turn off would suggest an electrical gremlin

Have you got keyless entry?
As mentioned in a previous post could it be someone trying to steal it using a signal booster then realise something like steering lock didn’t disengage.

I’m assuming car is automatic? Clutch would have to be depressed in a manual and if it wasn’t (and was left in gear) could be very dangerous!

My guess is water has got in somewhere and is doing some silly things to your electrics.

Yes it’s dsg, no keyless entry or ignition. my brother Had the carpets up and all dry under there.

No consolation for you but glad it wasn’t a manual that did this! Hope you manage to get it sorted.

Same could have been said for auto if it was left in gear!!! As normally it looks for being in park and footbrake to start the car

If the car is key’d and an auto then you most likely have :

1) A faulty ECU.

and / or

2) have a faulty ignition barrel as a car needs to see a terminal 15 (accessory power) to start.

3) a faulty starter motor, as if the above is true then just applying a 12v to it would be enough to fire up the engine.

When the above happens our cars ignore signals from both brake and clutch position sensors and allow starts.

Just remembered it flashed up a fault a few months ago about a key issue and would only turn off when key was removed. Cleared itself after a few days. So possibly is an ignition issue

Was this the cause of your problem?

Ok so far my independent has said there is a fault with a module not sure which one and also the ignition switch is sporadically sending a start signal

Car is fixed now. New module and ignition switch all coded to suit and no further issues

Did you not find out what module was replaced? I can understand an ignition switch shorting and turning car over but without the immobilizer i cant see why it started.

I was wondering the same as I also stay nearby

It was the central electrics j519 module and the ignition switch.

Ignition was sending sporadic start signals and the central electrics was doing something odd to allow it to start etc. All sorted now.
