Hey!

Just bought my first Audi. It's an A4 2.0 TDI (177bhp) Technik Multitronic 2014/64 in glacier white.

I love the car and I've been thinking of some cosmetic mods that I can do myself that won't cost much. I'm a total modding novice and don't have a garage/shop to work in. Some ideas below:

1. Black mirrors. I like the look of black wing mirrors, is it easier to wrap (looks awkward) or buy some new plastic covers?

2. Wrapping the chrome window and grill trim in black. Again it looks awkward to do. Any tools, techniques or particular types of wrap that make the job easier with the trim in situ?

3. Interior trim. Some of the silver on the door trim is scratched so I was thinking of wrapping some of the interior trim in black (possibly white?). Is most of the trim easy to remove, wrap and refit? Which parts can I get off easily?

4. The automatic gear lever. It's massive! Easy enough to replace with one a bit more stylish? Any suggestions?

5. The front grille. Can I replace it with one a bit more stylish? All black maybe with a black badge?

Those are my thoughts for now, all opinions are welcome, as are additional suggestions, cheers!

I changed the grill on my A6 to a no ring version I got from China via ebay £140 plus £40 fitting from a local garage.Aud I'm sure they'll be ones for A4, you could just swap the ring with black ones, 2 min job and under £10.

The dynamic wingmirror indicators. I recently ordered a pair for £28 off Aliexpress.

I say have a go at the wrapping, and invest in a £10 heat gun plus craft blade, wrap is super pliable and stretchy with heat and you are essentially getting it stretchy and stretching it around the item you are wrapping (cheaper wraps are not as easy).
if you spray the surface you are wrapping first with water you can slide the wrap around into place, then heat and push out the water with the sqweegee (water also stops air bubbles as these get pushed out with ease when wet :) )

I would recommend popping the trim off when wrapping the first time, is much easier to stretch over the corners.
once you get the hang of wrapping you can try tinting film on the lights, I find this really difficult but have done all my lights, by boyfriends lights and his mates.. still not easy but looks really nice in 'light smoke' and protects the lights/makes them glossy.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the replies so far.

I think my first task will be wrapping the interior trim. I'm fairly comfortable with the process of wrapping, although any tips for a first timer are welcome!

My main concern is removing the trim and refitting. The strips on the door appear to be easy enough according to YouTube videos however what about the rest? There's a decent size section of silver trim running up either side of the centre console around the gear shift, any ideas where to start? I'd really like to not break anything!

A guide to removing the trim to be wrapped would be great!

I mentioned up above I ordered some dynamic wing mirror LED's. Well they arrived today and an hour or so later and saw fingers, I finally got them both fit nicely.

I was amazed at how brighter they are than the original stock LED's. I replaced one at a time and from the front (in sunny conditions) I couldn't even see the stock LED flashing yet the dynamic was super bright.

A nice cheap mod (£28) and heres how it looks.

Hi mate, that looks awesome!

Was it much hassle to change the gear lever/knob? I'll be honest, that massive thing in the car now is probably the only stock item on it that I don't like!

Not much but you do break a bit of a sweat during the heat & twist part...
Some chose to simply cut and fit a 3D printed head but the old school method works just fine if your careful...

I heated the plastic rod directly and slightly burned it so I'd recommend, like many now, to heat the metal sleeve directly, which in turn is going to heat up the plastic rod inside, then slowly, very slowly, twist till reaching 90°.

For the rest, removing the old one, the centre control panel and fitting the new one, it's a walk in the park... Get ready to do a bit of sanding and filling till you get the release button to move freely though... they do tend to be a bit finicky at the beginning.

Read all you can first and watch all the vids
