Well, I was just walking away from my car this morning and decided to take a quick photo because I thought it was looking extra nice (Ignore the shack / abandoned mazda, I park in the old lorry park near work to stop people opening their dorrs onto mine)

Then on my way home I looked up, saw a row of cars that i thought was moving, skipped a couple of tracks on my headunit and looked back up and there was a car right in front of me, slammed my brakes on but hit the car in front at a fair speed, my first ever accident:

Unnamed2

Obviously totally my fault and the most important thing is that everyone is OK but still gutted about the car nevertheless.

I've contacted my insurance and described the damage to them and they reckon there's a fair chance of it being repaired according to their damage matrix, however I'm not so sure. Both airbags deployed, bonnet is totally bent up, both wings have damage, coolant pouring all over, bumper, grill and slam panel all completely destroyed. It'll be a very sad day (as i searched for so long to find the "right" car) but I'm expecting it to be written off.

It's only tin and plastic at the end of the day of course, everyone is fine which was my priority, i just feel like a right idiot.

Ah man glad you're ok! You're right, the car was looking pretty great in that photo! Time for the b8.5 front end conversation?

@AndrewW , As long as you and others are ok that’s all that matters. Cars can be replaced.

You don’t mention the other car and it’s driver?
I did, “everyone was fine and that was my priority”, “Obviously totally my fault and the most important thing is that everyone is OK“. I’ve also called the other party this morning to check on them and make sure they’re having no issues with insurance and courtesy car etc.

Had anyone been hurt I wouldn’t really give a toss about the car.

Sorry to hear about this, fingers crossed it gets sorted or the money comes for something equally awesome, guess it's just a bit of a waiting game when it comes to insurance and stuff so you'll have to keep bugging them with regards to what's happening.

atleast you're ok!

Title of the subject did make me LOL at my desk though!

We have all had that s##t BRAKE moment when traffic just stops completely buddy glad everyone is ok.

Shame about car lovely looking thing ( looking at photo dont think that will be repaired) keep us updated very nice of you to call and check on other party not many people would do that these days. . . .

Cheers all, hoping to hear back from insurance today once it's been collected (still in the place police recovered it to). I've never had an insurance claim before so not sure exactly what will happen or how long anything will take but I'm driving my camper van around for now so not the end of the world, it's not an S4 though...

Chin up! Like you say, it's only tin and plastic and the priority is that everyone involved is uninjured.

Hopefully, the insurance will leap into action and get things sorted, one way or another, promptly.

I know how you feel pal, I just had to help my dad sort out his first claim too, depending on which insurance company you are with, the insurance company asked us to go to their authorised repairer they took few photos and work out an estimate price to report back to the insurance for their approval before booking you in for a repair or not. I have waited for a week for the approval. Hope this helps.

That really sucks man. I agree with you, it looks to be a total IMO, but glad everyone is ok. Insurance typically write-off if a repair is 65% of the value and you'd be shocked by how expensive bills are to insurance cos. I recently got hit by someone indicating who did not turn, causing me to pull in front of them. My fault on paper unfortunately. Hit the front wing right on the wheel, didn't look too bad and would have been driveable to an extent if not for a snapped track rod, but the bill (to my insurance) was still £5800, perilously close to that value percentage. This was my first ever claim too, and only a couple of months ago.

You're not actually a ***, you made a simple mistake and you're keeping in touch with the other party, which is cool of you, and you clearly feel bad about it. I would have probably called you much worse things than whatever word is in your thread title if I was the other car :wink new: Just learn from a really crappy experience, count your lucky stars it isn't much, much worse and get ready to go car shopping (not always fun when done under duress though I realise).

Quick update on this - It was indeed a write-off and after some bargaining with the insurance payout (which was still way lower than the current market looks) I picked up a Sprint Blue S4 on Sunday.

I'll be a bit more careful in this one...

Thanks! I’ll give it a good wash at the weekend and get some nice pictures but I bought it from Coullstar on this forum, he had a for sale thread here. 12 hour round trip to pick it up but well worth it

That’s a good drive to collect a car. You have to admit, Scotland has amazing roads to drive on, scenery a bonus. You will be the 3rd member on here owning that car.look forward to the pics. :)
