Hi guys,, got a problem with my oil light keep coming on saying fill up with max 1litre oil ,, prob is my dipstick shows oil is at max capacity,, was recently serviced ,, April has no problems until last week oil light came on.. after checking oil the light disappeared,, couple days later back on ,, oil in car display shows it above minimum when I take reading after 2 mins with warm engine, and dipstick shows full but car keeps piping up saying am low on oil ,, is there ever problems with the oil sensor itself?
Any help appreciated
Thanks lee

Sounds like it in your case.
10 points for having a dip stick.
Not many people buy one.
As you physically know the oil level, that rules out many problems.
So yes, to me it sounds like an oil level sensor.

Also, check your oil when engine is cold.
In the morning, after a long period.
You may actually need oil after all
2 mins for the oil to settle is not a great length of time you see.
It's perfectly normal for a garage to under fill with oil, err'ing on the side of caution that over filling it.
Plus, it's a pretty big engine you have in the S4, so I would give it a few hours at least before checking.
Hope that makes sense

Like @CHEZ mentioned above, it seems like a faulty sensor. Not a common fault but can be at fault . It is an easy and cheap fix.

I think that the VW Group official generic description of the time needed to allow the oil to run back down into the sump in the case of a heated up engine is "a few minutes" - I tend to allow 15 minutes and that suits me on all my VW Group cars, 3 minutes as you might think that "a few" means is not long enough if you want a repeatable level reading.

Thx guys, an now worried a little after quote ,,( bought a dipstick) if these cars dont come with dipstick what would be in place? And if dipstick not stock could this be wrong length?
Thanks lee

Just a blank plug (like the top of a real dipstick) is what is supplied. I sourced the correct length of my dipstick on flea bay, but that was a while ago now.
