Been running this for last just 4 years put 50K miles on in it and only just popped over the 100K total miles - With Full Service History from new, I thought I would get another 5-10 years, but started to notice a slight misfire on idle (thought it might be an injector so booked into to local garage. They diagnosed it as due low compression on CYL 1 based on diagnostic plot of "Idle Stabilization of Injection quantity" :-

Cyl Min Max
1 2.35 2.87
2 -0.22 0.00
3 -0.64 -0.64
4 -0.69 -0.46
5 -0.31 -0.08
6 -1.07 -0.93

Garage were convinced to the point of saying not worth doing a full compression test - saying it was beyond economical repair - seems such a waste of a car that has been great.

Whats the chance of them being wrong? and it being something relatively easy to fix? They estimate 30Hrs labour + parts (so £2,000 + parts said the bill could easily reach over 3K ) - I stopped using the car but think I may as well just continue to run it - at least if its rings I will find out if they break up completely. So looking for advice...

I had similar story. I had uneven idle. When to get my injectors checked. They said all 6 are leaking and also that I need to to compression test. Did that too, and turned out one cylinder had lower compression, and of course they also said that it's not economical to repair - better to get used engine from wreckers. I wanted to get a second opinion and got in contact with different shop and they told me that that lower compression is there probably already from factory. And as I didn't have any running problems after replacing just the 6 injectors with brand new ones I left it at that. And I've been driving that car for 4th year now - with "low" compression. No problems with idle or power.

Thanks for the that its really useful info - do you know if can you replace individual injectors (Being a cheapskate....)

Yes you can buy single injectors and just code them in that’s what I did with mine had 2 gone on my BKN engine good luck mines on 180K now running plenty of power and no problems.
