Hi, not posted for a long time on here, but I have had my 2007 A3 TDI 170 for around 8yrs now and recently it's been cutting out whilst driving. It's a sudden "ignition" type cut out, not the same as lifting off the throttle. It fees like the stop valve on the intake is closing as there is a fair amount of engine braking.
It's been doing it randomly the past few weeks (rev counter bounces down and back up as it cuts in and out). But it failed completely earlier today and wouldn't restart (just turning over). It started back up after about 20mins though.
Would I be right in thinking the crank sensor is the main sensor on the TDI engine? I don't think it's fuelling etc as the rev counter cuts off. There are no warning lights.
I'll admit the car is on 225,000 miles but it runs perfectly when it runs!
