Tyre choice(brands)

Right, decision time... I'm replacing all 4 tyres.

Michelin Pilot sport 4 S = £700 fully fitted
Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 2 K117 = £580 fully fitted

Are the PS4's worth the extra £120?

Hankook have just released the ventus evo 3
Another option would be Goodyear asymmetrical 5

Personally I would go for the Goodyear’s as they are better than the hankook and nearly just as good as the PS4s but cheaper. Reviews for the asy 5 are stellar.

Both brand new models.

Ventus Evo 3's come to £636
Asy 5's come to £665

A couple more spanners in the works :/

At last someone who has a similar opinion on the PS4S - totally agree with Andy - either Tyre is good but the Goodyear Assy 5 is getting great reviews and has a more pronounced rim protection though the old taller and deeper kerbs will overcome any so-called rim protection. Assy 5 first choice and Evo 3 Hankook a close second IMHO.

Just been looking at your other thread... how come you are running 255 not 245?
I'm also running 255 35 19 fulda sport control 2 but was previously running goodyear eagle asymmetric 3 which were better in the wet than the Hankooks and the same for noise. Will be going goodyear asymmetric 5 next

My rear Hankooks did 42,000 miles and were still well legal. Even the fitter who put 4 new of the same on said "Hankooks eh, used to be crap, now all I hear is praise"

Indeed. Hankook have upped their game & we have had good reports on them from the forum. Will be interesting to see how the ventus evo 3 fair over the older model. That’s brilliant mileage from a set of tyres. Mostly motorway I take it? I normally run mine to 2mm & then change (lowest).

Brill Andy. Wait till you get a few miles on them. Will be nice to get pics of tread & rim protection in the mean time. Pneus tyres are great, especially free delivery. Takes a bit to get here but they are good 3-5 days . Their tyres come direct from factory so they will be dated very recently (manufacturing date) only £2 more than the outgoing model. Brill.

Yeah, I'd say a good 2 thirds. About 2mm left on the rears. The part-worn fronts I put on back in October to see me through to 4 new had suffered badly with the inside shoulder wear issue. Still don't know what's causing this, fitters were puzzled too, they say no way is it as simple as alignment.

Ive seen a long thread between Pirelli tyres & the Audi setup, they’re still scratching their heads (diff model). It will be interesting to see if it goes away after 4 identical tyres are on from new. The Quattro system is so sensitive, for good reason.

I’ve had the Goodyear f1asy5’s on the back for a while. Very impressed with them. The rear feels much tighter & more stable. Still don’t have them on the fronts but can talk on them limited to the feel of the rear. Can’t wait to fully appreciate them on the front to have them all round.
