Two new tyres. Front or Back?

Ok this seems to be a bit of a debate online. I have a A4 1.4 TFSI Sport.

My two front tyres are being replaced tomorrow as they are worn, being replaced with continentals. So the new tyres go on the front or the back? I assume the tyre fitter will know but I want to be sure

New tyres will go on the rear and your rears onto the front. Personally I’m not a fan of rotating tyres.

Same I don’t like rotating the tyres and it means just replacing two at a time and spreading the cost.

If you drive a Quattro it’s recommended to rotate the tyres as the system is very sensitive to tyres being worn.

What conti’s did you get?

Definitely put the new ones on the back for a front wheel drive vehicle, move backs to the front, but get them balanced again as they will be different from when they were new, and balancing the fronts is usually more important than the rears.
 
My opinion is it depends upon how worn the rears are in the first place. I always, if the fronts are worn and the rears not so much, just replace the fronts. As they are the driven wheels and understeer is more difficult to control I prefer that.
I maybe just odd though ;-)

And yet a quick walk round the dealer's lot will show they don't stick to this, mixing and matching as they please. I remember seeing one quattro with 3 different brands of tyres on.
 
@scotty76 on a used car yes. Having had a previous owner. As long as the tread depths are within the circumference tolerance. It’s also not good to mix tyres across the same axel. Bad dealer. How old was the Quattro?
 
I would have thought that newer tyres should go on the front. Most of braking is done by fronts so better thread = better grip. Same would apply acceleration and cornering in front wheel drive cars.

You have more faith in the dealers than me, I doubt they measured the depth. :) 3 years old.

You’re right. They’re not going to put decent tyres on a second hand car unless it’s a premium model I would say. I got mine second hand and they had rubbish on them. Just got new ones for the back Goodyear asymmetrical 5
