2019 Gpf MRC stage 1

Has any 1 else seen the MRC stage 1 map from a 2019 Gpf model which made 450 ps when mapped but the standard car was below standard quoted figures. The previous 2018 pre GPF model standard was showing 420 ps on some Dynos before mapping and after mapping 470-480+ps. The new car seems to be very held back compared to the previous model and I have a new 2019 GPF model on order and I just don’t know if it is worth purchasing now that the car is been changed which is a shame.
 
Buy a 67-68 plate car. Save some cash and get more noise.

That car looks a bit more promising and the 5 pot sound. I have also seen that APR have got well over 500 bhp out of the Gpf version with turbo inlet pipe and intercooler added.

Yeah up on power / down on power regardless......

The GPF has muted the soundtrack too.

They can keep it.
 
Apparently all VAG cars are getting a GPF whether they need one or not. The Bentley W12 doesn't require one but is still getting it regardless.
 
I was having a conversation yesterday with another rs 8p owner on this topic.
This is going to be the time now where aftermarket exhaust company’s will be probably be one of the first port of calls on all these new gpf fitted exhaust cars. This goes for bmw Mercedes owners as well.
 
Correct me if I am wrong, but does removing the GPF filter constitute an MOT failure?
 
Yup. What it will actually mean is that aftermarket exhaust makers will more likely only be designing cat back systems from here on in. Changing a downpipe and removing the secondary cat which is a popular mod now will probably burn out a GPF and still cause a failure.
 
Surely the modders will remove the cat and GPF?? No cat fails MOT anyway. GPF MOT failure is not a problem for 3 year yet anyway
 
Aye it seems a bit pointless to just remove the GPF if you are going to be looking at no warranty and failing MOT, just replace the whole downpipe and stick it back on if required.
Downpipe is a PITA to keep changing though? Not a simple job afaik + doesn't it set off various warning sensors? Audi would take a dim view of it for sure.

As far as I can tell the GPF is in the same spot the secondary cats used to be on the earlier models, but maybe someone can confirm? Either way if you are removing secondary cats or GPF you are going to need a re-tune, as they will certainly trip a CEL and both will fail MOT and void warranty the same way.

Those who want the sound and performance will have to jump through the same hoops, new car or older.

Downpipe does look to be a fiddly job, and probably not for the timid or those who are not mechanically inclined. Worse bit looks to be removing the driveshaft and engine mounts and shifting the motor forward. Would not be much fun to do it once a year, I'll grant you!

Removing 2nd cats doesn’t need any re-tune.
I had my rear box replaced on an earlier RS 3 with 2nd cats removed under warranty.

Removing the GPF would require 4 sensors dealt with also

2 in the top of them and 2 behind them.

Only 1 advantage I can see. If VCDS can monitor the Pressure sensors it will give you a good idea if exhaust back pressure is causing performance issues on big power cars. Always a silver lining:wink:

That sounds decent! Also it bounced off the Rev limiter instead of pulling back violently, if you hit it in mine any pull you were doing is game over... feels and sounds like the car has gone bang haha.

There is the delta Pressure sensor too as well as 4x temp sensors

Its a delta pressure sensor tho so doesnt give a good indication of exhaust back pressure

Surely the ecu calculates the DP from the pressure sensor inputs. If vcds can read the sensor it will read mb??

The sensor measures dp directly and gives it to the ECU. The value will be in mbar but isnt ebp
 
Just looked at the above pic again and see what you are saying. I guess it makes it easy to knock something up though.
 
There are a lot of diagnostics on the sensor and the pressure that it measures. Removing the gpf (or gutting them and leaving the empty cans) would be quite easy. The temp sensors would still work just fine. They are only there for monitoring an active regen which doesnt happen very often.

By-passing the pressure is harder as there are going to be at least 4 OBD monitors looking at the pressure. The empty cans or removed GPF, soot loading and blocked GPF are all detected via the pressure.
 
Yeah will be much the same process as DPF. Once the file writers figure it out it will be easy enough. I have not looked at the GPF file yet so can’t comment on its structure. Same ECU as non GPF car so can’t be that different
 
I've found there is quite a lot more code for a GPF equipped car. Easy to turn the monitors off and dump the GPF, harder to find power and stay legal.
 
Milltek has a downpipe for 2019 with GPF bypass now, but needs a tune apparently to keep engine from going into safe..
