Hi, really sorry to ask a question that can't seem to get a straight answer for.
Right, had my A4b7 1.9 tdi avant for about 18 months, all pretty much trouble free motoring, and 200k miles now.
It came with one key only, so I'm thinking of getting a second hand key, getting a new blade cut to fit the car, then is it possible to sync that remote to open doors, as well as the original, or will it wipe the first one off?
AND is it then possible to get a transponder chip to match the car so it will be able to start car too, so I have a spare key?
Hope that all makes sense, thanks Dave

Congrats in fault free motoring.

It is all possible.
You need to get a key with the same frequency transponder, like your original one.
Flip the blade and you'll see all the key details on it, in the blade grove.
Find a fob like it and get a car locksmith to cut it and program it for you.

Seen also some youtube programming tutorials but don't know if that sort out the immobiliser transponder.
Give it a google

Thanks, yep lucky with car, done 30,000 miles in it and get an occasional hiccup (see other post) but love it.
So should be OK to use key then, was quoted £140 for new one, which made me cough a little.
Cheers

I've bought 1 on eBay before for £30 & my local garage coded it for free / would do it for £30 to £50 depending on how they feel. It has to be the exact same number as on the inside of the fob. Getting blank blades & getting them cut is the easy part

That sounds a good deal, getting quoted about £120+ for key cut and coded, going to see local vag guy, see if he can do it, was your key cut to a photo?

No. I got a blank blade cut at local locksmith - might even have been timpsons (surely not!). For about a tenner (£20 max). They cut it using my existing blade - not sure what you'd do if you don't have a cut blade..

My wife kept losing key fobs & I'd buy new ones on ebay & get them coded. & the car kept losing coding to the keys - nothing I did would fix that. So I became quite friendly with local garage who (after 3 times) felt pity on me & kept doing it for free..

You can't recode already coded keys (afaik). They have to be new ones & the exact same code as the code on the inside of your current fob.
