So I have owned the S3 for 3 months now. It’s fully serviced, with the engine oil and Haldex changed when I got the car. Also changed the thermostat so it warms up as it should.

So I use Costco 97ron premium petrol. I do a mixture of short 10 mikes journeys and longer 50 mike journeys. I drive sensibly but give the pedal a squeeze when needed.

26 MPG. 300 miles brim to empty. Is this as expected! Car is bone stock.

I personally wouldnt use costco since they are no longer 99ron

I would highly recommend using shell vpower and downloading there app they have loads of great offers such as free fuel 8p off per litre and other perks which seen great

Tesco momentum is better fuel too

I own an s3 8p which like you said above is well maintained and fully serviced but i am running 370bhp and its dsg

Around town my figures are around 19-25 on a long run i can achieve 40mpg

Thanks Ethan. Yes Costco appear to have reduced the Ron rating recently. I will check out the Shell app now. And the cost of their V Power!

I haven't calculated the MPG on my S3 yet because i'm scared it's going to be lower than that of the turbocharged 3.0L straight 6 bmw 135i that it has replaced :sob:

My 3.2 averages 30mpg on a 360 mile weekly commute. Roughly 300 miles to a tank.

On short runs drinks fuel like mad.

From experience what you quote sounds about right for the journeys you do.

Mine does 190 if i drive like an s3 driver but 230-250 if driven sensibly and 300-330 on long distances, only got a revo intake without a map not really optimized ans may drink more fuel due to less air restriction on intake. But your figures sound good to me i always run vpower yes its premium but its top quality and other day i got a £15 off voucher from.shell which is nice

Fill it to the first click never brim your tank you kill your evap canister and end up spend 150 on replacing it

I get 300 to a tank pretty much every time, average around 27mpg over the tank. I only use vpower and occasionally Tesco momentum. I have just this week done a long journey over the water however and looks like I’m gonna get 400 to the tank at around 37mpg, but I rarely drive journeys like this. The former of the above is a mostly my daily commute which is a mix of town driving and motorway. So your figures sound entirely normal to me.

I would normally only get about 300miles to a tank , but once I bought new tyres PS4 and used cruise control @67mph I got over 420 miles to the tank which I was astonished about and recently I had 360 to a tank . In town I am not sure what it is but I would say between 25/28,

I've seen 400+ miles from a tank on long drives and obeying the limits, but even on a mix of long and short journeys with varying amounts of fun, I often get 300+ out of a tank.
Average for me is 30mpg over the last year, and best MPG after a series of long runs is 35.5 mpg.
Mine has R-Tech stage 1 with 320bhp and 340lb-ft and run on Tesco 99/ V-power.

Cheers all. It looks like I’m getting the average. In the next few weeks it’s time to change the LingLongs the car came with and fit some PS4’s, then change the plugs and coils. I’m hoping this will squeeze another 1 mpg into the average!

I never buy shell on principle, its an absolute rip off.
I always use Tesco 99, the car goes like stink and i get an ave 320-40 per tank. Incidentally i get better fuel consumption with APR stg2+ than i did stock or with revo stg1.
A common mistake is people running around on half flat tyres. Check the pressure chart in the door, pressures should be a lot higher than you think.

Tyres were done last week! 38f/32r.

That’s why I loved the Costco fuel so much. It was as cheap as supermarket fuel, but was 99ron with all the cleaners. Now it’s 97, but still as cheap. Plus only £1.50 for a hot dog and soda!
I have a feeling that VPower will be at least 15PPL more. Costco premium is currently £125.9.

I think a remap will see better MPG for general driving. Yet use the extra power and it will soon outweigh any gains. R-Tech was my first option. But I’m not so keen on the fact that they will ONLY map cars on 99 fuel. And they don’t have a 4wd dyno. After a quick search on here, an S3 should be mapped on a 4wd dyno. I want to know what it’s making at the wheels. It should also show torque split which should be interesting.

There is no point doing a S3 on a AWD dyno because it will constantly transfer power from front to rear and back again, giving false readings and slow progress on remapping.
It's not permanent AWD so it doesn't need a 4wd dyno.
Also, people do get their cars tuned on fuels other than 99ron, but I think their way of thinking is that if you want to get the most from your engine with a remap, you'll get that bit extra by using the best quality fuel.

IMHO, why have a performance car and not use performance fuel?

Ha ha , like i said , most people run about with half flat tyres :) where did you get 32 for the rears from. should be 38 all round tbh.

Are your plugs due a change? Are you having an issue to suggest coil packs are faulty? If not surely unless you do a million miles a year then throwing money at unnecessary parts to gain an mpg or 2 isn't sensible?

What hardware have you got to get 320bhp and 340lb/ft from stage 1? I'm booked in with R-tech for stage 1 early september and i was expecting 300bhp max, only "hardware" is pre-cat delete, everything else factory standard.

R-Tech mapped my S3 to 97RON before I sent it out to NZ. Not ideal but 98 was all we could get here - however, we have a new entrant in the market with 100 octane but I can’t do anything about that now!

Back in the UK I’d be straight onto 99ron, considering it’s cheaper at Tesco than BP (97) and Shell 99 why wouldn’t you - there is more performance gain too.

No issue with mapping the S3 in 2WD

Tyre pressures 40/38

So what happens if its mapped on 99 then u have to use 97/95 for whatever reason? Does the car adjust and run a little less power or does it run badly?

Yea about that do you really run 42 psi at your front wheels cause thats what manuf. Recommends but ive always run my car on 34

It runs fine but it would only be a stop gap until you refill on 99. Drive it gentle.

As the timing is set for 99 (the map overrides the stock map which does adjust) when running a lesser RON there is greater risk of knocking and incorrect detonation which could result in a broken engine.... Running a higher RON (than what is was mapped for) is fine and the timing will adjust.

Just checked the flap. 39f 30r if only two passengers and unloaded. I will try 38 all as suggested.

I have no history to suggest the plugs have ever been changed, and the coils are mismatched brands. I am contemplating getting it mapped so call it a precaution.

Stock hardware on mine except for resonator delete.
I had fitted a brand new revised PCV and DV in readiness for the remap and it has been very well maintained.

Costco are great for tyres especially Michelin

just to be clear, you do have an S3 ? and you do have 225 x 18 tyres ? I think you are looking at 205 x 17 with your figures....

It’s an S3. Pre FL. 225/40/18 XL-

39/30 unloaded
42/42 loaded

42/38 M&S unloaded
46/46 M&S loaded

M&S I believe is mud and snow. So the first figure for be, when I just have the dog in the boot is 39/30?

you should be looking at the bottom set of figures but with just the Dog as i say about 38 all round., maybe a bit more if high speed

strictly speaking i suppose it will vary from make to make depending on the construction of the tyre, steel banding etc so maybe the sticker changes with the different makes of tyre fitted over the years from the factory ? who knows :). Try 38 all round and see how it feels ? it will certainly roll better and should help your MPG. You are not risking anything as you are way under the max pressure .

M + S on the fuel cap is mud & snow is it?

I checked my pressures yesterday and went for 2.9 bar front and 2.6 bar rear.. the bottom selection of numbers as the 39/30 psi didn't sound right to me.

I got 30F and 28R, prefer comfort to mpg, tyre wear etc. No wonder there's so many buckled alloys around if people are rolling on what it says in the fuel cap.

Stage 2+ does a lot of town driving and averages 23mpg, roughly 280 miles from full to the fuel light. But let's be honest, you don't buy an s3 for mpg
