Hi Guys

Just acquired a b8.5 Avant 2.0 tfsi

Lovely car.. I have a couple of questions, will post in different sections! Thanks for your help!

1st question

My car came with 2 fob keys, plus a small plastic black key quite thin and no functionality. I guess this is the valet key.

I can see in the MMI the system shows 3 registered keys.

Is this normal? Would the little plastic key count as one?

Thanks!

M

Yeah the small plastic one will count as it's got a chip in that's registered to the car.

The small key fits into a plastic holder in my B8 that's identical to the normal key that you use the start the car, the holder in mine is located in the glove box on the left hand side.

We keep the small key in the Mrs purse incase we loose the key when out we can gain access to the car with it then put it in the holder to then start the car.

Mine doesn’t have that spare key, can I order a replacement from Audi?

My car bought secondhand also came without that key, so I just had to get one, costs a lot less than a full function key, but not exactly free! Anyway, if you do buy a emergency small key, when you get it coded to the car, they will wipe out the currently missing key - which at any time, could get used to get into your car and drive it away.
I meant to contact the previous owner, but left it far too late, I'd guess lots of owners just forget about that small key and the dealership, at trade in time don't do what they should, ie drop the trade in price if a key is missing, then wipe out that key from the car's system before selling it on.
