Right, so I currently have the S3 Saloon and my wife has a TT, both from new '66 plates.
We normally change when around 3 years old, which they both will be in November.
Our plan in the next year or so is to buy a touring caravan (I know, I know!).
Need to plan ahead so that one of our next vehicles (probably Audi, but not guaranteed) is a suitable towing machine.
Was thinking something like an SQ5 or A4 Avant, and certainly something with quattro. Don't want to give up too much performance either and probably sticking with petrol.
Also considering "downsizing" the wifes car and putting more cash into mine.
Open to the floor for discussion............
Thanks.

Keep the S3 and TT and go on proper holidays.

The End.

You're Welcome. ;)

I would be looking at 5 litres of petrol and a lighter...

Joking aside, If it was my money and I was looking to tow a van I would be looking at something heavy like a V6 diesel in an A6 or Q7 etc, as I want to be towing the van and not the other way around.

@Audi Bairn - Having spent over 3 months sourcing the right car & caravan combo I may be able to help here lol
The main question is - what type of caravan are you intending as the weight of it will determine your tow car?
I found this website invaluable for the 85% rule
https://towcar.info/GB/

Our caravan, a 2 berth Swift Challenger 480, is relatively light so I easily get away with the fwd A4 Avant for towing

For me personally my main must haves were -
Had to be a diesel
Had to have a factory fitted tow bar / electrics (see my thread above for reasons)
Had to have auto transmission
Had to be an estate

I’d hope to be going proper holidays too lol
We’ve been restricted to staycations last five years due to finding land / building the house then the dog started having health issues so we don’t leave him with the in laws as much. Intention is to use it more for going to on a Friday night till Sunday (to escape work more) and for short breaks away throughout the year.

Thanks BH, appreciated mate.
Didn’t realise you had a caravan.
Our will be as big as the wife can get haha!
Probably loads more to consider than I realise but just trying to plan ahead.
Took a motorhome up north a couple of weeks ago and we enjoyed it but it doesn’t give the same freedom during the day that a car would.

When you said 5 litres, I was thinking Mustang with a tow bar lol

I've done touring caravaning some time ago & boy has it changed. Steep learning curve for me at the mo TBH
Motorhome's sound good but wouldn't work for us, but we are all different

Main thing with a caravan for us is that without doubt you must have a motor mover fitted
At the mo the spending doesn't seem to be stopping lol

If there's anything I can help with get in touch buddy, PM if you wish

Looking good!
The motor mover was already top of the list haha! After seeing them in action close up on our trip it’s a must-have for me. I’m not sure how much I’ll enjoy towing it but like anything I suppose I’ll get used to it.

There is an option on a caravan if you have tried a Motorhome - depends on your budget :)
