Could be any number of things including low pressure, condenser damage is a common issue. Personally I would take the vehicle to a professional as they will be able to perform a diagnostic in order to see what's needed.

I had my climate serviced @ two years, £65 for renewing the refrigerant, cleaning the vents with the climate components all checked.

I'm with @DJAlix on this, and my money's on condenser damage so no amount of re-gassing will solve your problem.

Take it to an expert !

Mobile 'regasser' came to my house, he sooked the system dry, pressure tested it, dried it out and regassed. Did my brother-in-law's at the same time, think it was about £50 each, bargain IMO.

I had the same done but he also found the stone damaged condenser that needed replacing. The air con had automatically stopped working to prevent dry pump damage. You need to have the system checked properly to save you some money in the long run.

Damaged but on an old car or new?

My 2014 A3 had condenser damage last year, car was only just over 3yrs old. I would suggest you take heed of the advice given and get a rpessure test. The A3 has a design "flaw" whereby the condenser is pretty exposed. Very very common issue. I think its even been on watchdog or some tv series. Pics attached to show my damage.
