Long time lurker. Recently I have been looking at purchasing a Q5 / SQ5 (After the looks of the SQ5 but with the power of a high Q5, the current SQ is just too thirsty) Looking at 1.5-3 year old.

One of the must have items for my next car is adaptive cruise control. As far as I can see Audi make it really hard to work out if cars have adaptive cruise control or not. I see some listed with Cruise Control and Stop & Go but it doesn't say its adaptive. It's the same problem with many of the other tech features.

Overall there are hardly any, like single digit cars listed with adaptive cruise control. Is it really that rare a feature? I'm a little surprised if so given that the lesser Skoda brand has had them on thinks like Octavias for 3 years so was expecting most especially the SQ5s to have it.

Is there an easy way to spot if a car has adaptive CC? Certain words on the stalks etc that I can look for in photos etc?

There will be a distance switch on top of the stalk:

How many miles do you do a year and on what types of road? I run an SQ5 and my average fuel consumption over nearly 21k miles is 30mpg. Most of my driving is long journeys and such, I have a Fiesta for the short journeys and parking at the supermarket etc. I reckon compared to the diesel Volvo I had before its costing me about £10-12 a week more on 12k miles a year. Compared to all of the other costs of running an expensive car, that is nothing.

I dont have ACC, had it on a Golf GTi and wont be speccing it again...

I only do around 5k a year, car has only done 13500 miles since October 2016, but not been used much at all since January due to health issues. However in the school holiday's, when we'd quite often go to our holiday lodge in Suffolk, and living south of the m25, the traffic jam assist comes into it's own when there is a 7 mile tailback to the tunnels. So I tend to use that feature quite often as there seems to be more and more cars on the road and more and more traffic jams..

Yes, my Golf was a manual so didnt get the traffic jam piece. I just didnt like how it left a gap that was just inviting enough for others to move into (even on shortest gap setting) and then braked to make gap bigger again....

This was 2014 model though so it may be better now....

I don't play tarmac ownership games, just let the car do it's stuff. My arthritic knees are much relieved....

Its not tarmac ownership - I drive a lot on the motorways (did more then than now) and if I was controlling the car myself, if someone made a gap to fit in then I would let the car gradually recreate the gap. If the electronics take over and make the gap reappear more quickly by braking, that causes a concertina effect behind, and in my opinion was less safe for other roadusers....

Having spent a long time looking this certainly does look like a rare option to have :(

We've only done 10K in our car this year so as you say the SQ might be thirsty but in the grand schemes it would not be a huge problem although they are lots of 7-10 mile journeys so would he hitting low mpg. Motorways are only used at weekends so would struggle to get near the 30's mpg

Yep, not ideal for that - although they do warm p very quick. I can get 25 on a 5 mile across town journey and 34 on a long motorway run. And it makes such a wonderful noise on start up. And goes pretty well when required.

Yeah I miss the nice rumble of my old 350z on startup. I’m missing the “fun” factor at the moment that’s for sure

Depends upon what mode you are running the engine in as well....

Looks like I will be lurking around this forum a lot more. After lots of searching found a SQ5 with ACC and lots of other nice options too. Pick it up at the weekend.

We like details (especially on options and mileage and prices...)

Its a 65 plate with most options. The only major ones missing are hill hold assist (but will look to activate the 'lite' version with VCSD anyway) and a panoramic roof (but this is something we are not that bothered about - 1 less thing to go wrong) It was a good price, from a dealer so got 2 years warranty with it. There were only around 30 within 1:30h with AAC and this had the most other options bar far and was in the middle price wise.

Sounds brilliant. I guess the reason things are optional is immediately apparent from your post - AAC does nothing for me, and I have never understood need for HHA on an auto, but I wouldnt be without the light from a pan roof. But the good thing is we can all get what we want!

Enjoy the car. They are epic (although I am toying with trading mine as I just dont use it enough and if I am going to have a weekend car, I might just get one with a V8 whilst I can (and only 2 doors and a fold down roof!).

Congrats on your purchase, you'll love it.
I'm in the process of retrofitting the ACC (just needs coding and an alignment) as it is the one thing I miss the most from my S3.
The HHA is also a must for me, which I do have, but doesn't play nice with the stop start system. So I have that turned off.
Shame you didn't get the panroof though as it does bring a lot of light in and is a big open space opened!
Pictures when you have them!

I do like the panoramic roof, we have one on our existing car but having had it go wrong its ****** (£1000+) to get fixed and we are happy enough not to bother with that one.
