Hi all
Can anyone recommend a decent dashcam that won't interfere with my DAB Radio?
I previously installed one in my A4 B7 and it destroyed the DAB reception.
I've heard it's something to do with the power source of the Dashcam that causes it?

Thanks in advance.

The DAB issue is related to the use of a rear dashcam, connected to the front dashcam by coax cable, which carries the power as well as video signal.

Most rear dashcams are mounted on the rear windscreen, whose heating elements also double as the DAB (as as well as AM/FM) antenna, and its close proximity to this that causes interference. The route of the rear cable can also cause an issue. You are correct in that its the dashcam power which is the root of the problem!

I use the Blackvue 650 (Front and rear) and found that positioning the rear camera on the tailgate surround rather than the glass, as well as a ferrite bead on the coax cable, greatly reduced the problem. Im not sure how well behaved some of the newer dash cams are.

DAB coverage in the UK is patchy at best in the UK anyway....

90% of the dashcam's on the market don't have any valid EMC testing performed, manufactures just self certify their CE Certification, when I was looking around I contacted Blackvue and Thinkware and neither would provide certification, and thinkware even sold at one point ferrites on their web site. Depending on the noise generated on the power & data cables ferrites will stop interference, however the only way to test for noise is an Anechoic Chamber!!! Other thing to consider is the mounting of the camera, some of them a rubbish and in an accident they become shrapnel bouncing around inside the car.

I fitted the front and rear Audi system, it's not the best on the market but it's fully tested and sold as a factory fit option as well as a retrofit option. Never had any trouble with DAB, or the cars battery going flat.

Which to you and me means dash cam i changed the default 8gig sd card for a 64gig sd card
And also have not had any interference with DAB or the car battery going flat

^^ what he said I have the same setup and it works perfectly - as does the DAB

This doesn't seem to be limited to just dash cams. My 12v USB adapter I use to charge my phone kills the radio signal across all the bands, not just DAB. Unplug it and I get all the stations back again instantly.

I'm exploring the latest Blackview and Thinkware releases. Both quite new with a fair difference in price. I've heard from a couple of nationwide fitters that the latest versions don't have the earlier DAB reception issues, but reviews are limited in numbers so I'll bide my time.

Thinkware F770 here with a rear. No issues at all. I've heard of Blackves having some issues though.

Hi, I’m looking at the Audi UTR for my 2019 A4 and was curious about the quality of the video? Has the app improved recently? Does it work well? What don’t you like about it?

I've use the Nextbase 512 on my Audi A5 (hard wired in) - no issues. I now use the Nextbase 422GW on my A6 (hard wired in) and have no issues either. The 422GW does come with a ferrite core that you wrap round the power lead, it is optional but seems to do the job just fine. Plus the it also has an inbuilt SOS function, Amazon Alexa and a touch screen, if you are into that kind thing. For the money they are the best dash cams I have used.

I had a Blackvue 650 2ch in my Range Rover and had no issues with DAB. Once it goes into the Audi I will post my findings on here. I'll run it a few days without the cameras first, then install them and see if there's any marked difference. Standby....

Ok so, as I said above I would report back with my Blackvue/DAB reception performance. I ran the car for around 3 weeks without the cameras to make sure my DAB wasn’t pants in the first place; it wasn’t. So I installed the cameras around a fortnight ago and I am happy to report that I have no DAB issues whatsoever with the cameras running
