I'm fairly new to the whole remapping, so been having a look at getting my 1.9tdi remapped and stage 1 doesn't need anything doing, stage2 needs the dpf removed which after having a Google is illegal, but then I come across not all tdis have 1, 0GG means no dpf and 7GG means dpf, mine has 0GG so I'm right to assume no DPF? Leads me on to my question, can I go stage 2? Is it pointless as the thing that's being coded out isn't there anyway?

I have a 2.0 tdi and the only mechanical mods I have done is straight pipe it and fit a hybrid turbo. I would recommend fitting a hybrid turbo for stage 2, I am remapping next week and expecting 220 bhp.

My model is also a year before DPF was introduced.

Yeh I planned on an exhaust system before a remap, hybrid turbo though? Much work involved in that? So stage 2 is entirely possible then whilst still being road legal?

All together the hybrid turbo with fitting was £600 but makes such a difference when remapping. Originally looking at an increase of about 40 bhp when mapping but now looking at an increase of 80bhp! But yes if you get a good exhaust you’ll be able to do stage 2. Might want to look at a better clutch depending on what power increase you see though.

Am I right to assume yours is the bxe engine as well? My only other concern is all the talk I hear of them throwing rods? I'm not overly mechanically minded so I'm learning as I go, bit concerned with the extra power might throw it over the edge so to speak?

Mine has a bkd engine, what year is yours?

I believe the engines are different as I have the 2.0 whereas you have the 1.9, I’m not familiar with the rods issue unfortunately

Mine is the 2005, yours would definitely have a dpf then, depending on which exhaust you go for probably best to get rid of the dpf.

Hmm from what I've read online apparently I dont, was around 58 they started fitting them, heard the way to check was what code you had on the sticker in the boot, mine apparently says I dont have 1 fitted

Oh fair enough, I know for the 2.0 they started fitting them from 55.

Mine's a 2009 58 plate 2.0 and it has one, option code is 7MG - "Emission Standard EU5"

I had a Revo stage 2 map on a 1.9 TDI 115 with the same turbo as yours, it was a really aggressive map requesting 20psi (stage 1 is 16.5psi). The low down instant torque of the small turbo was mental, but destroyed CV joints every 6 months and ate 2 flywheels! It was great for about 50k until the turbo exploded!

I have driven loads of far more powerful diesels (and now own one) but do miss the 1.9 with the little VNT 15 turbo with the instant thump of torque.

Be prepared to start replacing turbo, clutch, flywheel etc if you get a stage 2 map.
