Is this a step too far on an unmodified S-line Avant?
I can't be doing with spacers or arch flaring.

Not out of the question at all but depends on tyre size aswell.
ET29 on an 8.5 j will be very close to the wheel arches on the rear, same with fronts and may also look tractor ish on the fronts , but tyre width will be a factor , 235/40 will help clear the arches .
Narrower tyres give better clearance but depends on if you like the stretch.
suspension clearance wont be an issue as the offset is more outward than oem, its going to be the outside rim edge , spacer , well you wont need them full stop.

Thanks Rob,
Sounds like it could be a pain.
The wheels in question are from A5, look nice, local, but no good if they're going to rub.

Its allways tricky , not having them to try you are relying on just guesswork, some owners fit all sorts of things and others have problems.
What i will say is that they wouldnt fit on my avant without rubbing or looking tractor like.
Sorry cant be much more help.

Does the extra 1/2" width go on the front, back or divide equally?
If equally then the wheel face moves out (43-29) + 6.3 = 20.3mm, can't see that working.

The increase in rim width is equal on both sides so an 8.5j rim will be 6.3mm each side wider than oem , then factor in the offset , oem is et43 depending on what rims are fitted.
offset will move the wheel outwards by a given amount set by the offset figure being used ,but the actual poke will increase aswell if using wider rims , so add on the extra width on the outside rim edge to the offset figure.
here you go just to make it a bit clearer chap, and double checked my figures were correct.

you can see that 20.3mm is correct and that is how much further out they will protrude compared to oem.
To be honest I think you'll be struggling and they may not look that good either.

Not the best angle but you can see how close these were my old bus, I did have a bit of rub until I adjusted the camber a bit but there is a limit to how much adjustment doable.
ET35 8.5j with 235/35 19 tyres.
An 18" rim with a 235 /40 tyre will stickout a bit more so more chance of rubbing aswell, i'd never get ET29 on my avant without arch contact, well not on an 8.5j rim .

Just been out and done a test fit with my oem et43 8.5j alloys with 235/35 and with spacers added, spacer thickness bring offset to approx. ET30 in these pics and you can see how much further the poke actually is, when I lowered it down the tyre just stopped and wouldn't go up anymore due to the protruding width, so never going to work.
ET29 on a 8.5j with a 235/40 will be at least 3mm more .
Down to you chap really , I know some users like the wide stance but I think you will have headaches with it to say the least, allways happy to see it work though.

I’m running a 9.5” wide ET25 front and ET 20 rear. It’s definitely possible but you will want to run some camber or stretch tyres.

how on earth did you get them on those sizes, no way that would work on my bus , but i also would'nt use that much stretch.
what tyres are they 225 Nathan?

almost 44mm wider poke than oem on the rear , how.

You can easily fit a 10" wide on the rear with the right tyres and suspension set up.

Camber and Tyres are key. I'm running a 225/40 and -2.35 degrees camber on the rear. at my previous ride height I had no rubbing at all with these specs. Now I have slammed the thing I have rolled my front arches and slightly pulled my rears to makes sure if I hit a massive dip I don't crack anything but to be fair this wasn't really necessary. I could have left all the arches standard and just ran a 215/40 and had absolutely no issues.

Its personal choice whether running stretch or not is OK but a 225 on a 9.5" is only one size down from recommended so its not a huge amount of stretch in the grand scheme of things.

having tried a fair few rims over the last 5 years i know that would never work on my bus, but then i dont want to stray that far from near oem suspension setting or alignment, dont want to start rolling arches either so from an oem retro fit standpoint 8.5 j 235/35 19 on ET35 is safe .
I dont mind sticking a 235 35 on a 8,5j rim but 225 on 9.5 is not for me really but all down to preference really.

I'm looking at some A5 wheels
- PCD: 5 x 112
- Offset (ET): 32
- Rim width: 8.5J
- Tyre size: 255/45 x 18

Anyone know if they'd fit my fwd S line Avant?
