Hi All, I hope your Monday has been good.

This is my first post on the forum although I admit I have been following the majority of the posts on here since I ordered a new RS3 back in March. Beyond excited.

Current owner of a much loved CTR in the U.K. Just needed that 5 cyl. before everything goes hybrid.

My first post was going to be at the weekend when I was due to pick it up (delivery has been surprisingly swift based on what I’ve read on here), but just been slapped in the face with the news that the car arrived with the wrong spec....

I ordered the Sportback in Daytona grey Audisport Edition (incl black optics/blades etc), all options ticked except traffic driving aids.

Audi ordered the right car minus the SS seats, carbon inlays. Final twist: aluminium and rotors rather than black optics and blades.

Do I reorder with the correct spec? Wait another 2 to 6 months?

Do I accept the car as it is with a sweetener? If so what sweetener should I push for?

I went to see the car in the flesh and had a difficult time keeping a straight face, was a giggling teenager inside when the engine started for sure!!

Please help me use my head!!

I think I’ve come to terms with the Alu optics and the rotors on the Daytona. The sticking point is the SSS, although I’m told the standard ones do basically the same job without looking awesome.

Fundamentally this is the “right” car, it’s an RS3 right?!

Your thoughts appreciated, anyone ever been in the same predicament? Does anyone have patience as one of their virtues?

PS. Please post more videos of your RS3s on the web as I’ve consumed all the RS3 media on offer and getting withdrawal symptoms :). Sorry for the ramble.

Officially welcome to audi-sport.net. Really sorry to hear that your spec is wrong. I would wait see what sweetener they offer before accepting the car. You have been lucky with a short wait, but don’t let that factor into it. Have a good long think about it. Has the dealer offered to get you the wheels, inlays and seats?

The car sounds nothing like what you ordered! SS seats are a must for me and most others and will be needed come resale. They just massively improve the interior.

Alu pack instead of black pack...how could they make that mistake?! I'm not a big fan of alu pack. It's all personal taste but I think black pack just looks sportier and seems more liked. Ditto with the black wheels.

All in all, it sounds like they've made the mother of all mistakes. Honestly, I'm not sure any sweetener they can offer would be enough...it would certainly need to be many £1000's for me to consider it.

I appreciate you're excited but try to think logically... this is not the car you ordered... it's not as nice.

Nothing like what you ordered made... that’s poor work from Audi there :seenoevil:

For me, I’d order the car again, and push for a better deal after the huge mistakes they’ve made on this order

Thank you for the sensible answers.

They actually offered to paint the trim black although I’m not really up for that, not sure the warranty would respond if something went wrong with the paint later on etc? Wrapping could be an option I guess.

I’ve not asked about changing the alloys, in my view the rotors don’t look too bad v. the blades.

I wouldn't take it, it is nothing like you wanted!
Don't be 'forced' into accepting it. As already said I would want the right spec ordered with a better discount. It is their mistake after all.

I wouldn’t paint the trim absolutely not, it wouldn’t last 5 minutes before it would be chipped and nasty.

Take the car, providing they supply new wheels and fit, install SSS (not impossible to do so) and fit the black optics (not impossible). But I fear that it would then be easier to just cancel your order as the next buyer will be more than happy to take it.

So failing that, just insist on having SSS... make do with the rest, not that you will be suffering haha.

Rather then keep it and get a sweetner, I'd be looking for them to reorder and give you a sweetner.

If you dont get the car you ordered, there'll come a time when you'll regret it.

The minute you allow them to start messing with it will be when the problems start...... they are barely good enough to change oil let alone more intricate works.

Tell them you want the correct spec car as per the order you gave them initially.

Christ,..it’s worrying when an order cannot be carried through from the dealer to the factory.

My worry would be that the OP would reject this car, order another one facing a 6-month wait then Audi cull production a month before.

I know one member on here had a car make it as far as the German port and the order was cancelled, car sent elsewhere due to WTLP.

Yes it is worrying, wasn’t expecting this. Though it’s a shame because aside from the balls up on the ordering, my sales guy has been good, knowledgeable etc. The ordering bit is quite key though...

Buying from new means no compromise right. It’s a lot of spondulics. Let’s see what they can do, install SSS etc. are all good suggestions.

Still staggered by the noise the sports exhaust made when I fired it up inside their garage. Music to my ears.... I want this car!

I hadn’t considered that.... I did ponder on the next generation car (should be greener) although sight of the very latest model designs didn’t inspire to wait.

Don’t like putting a downer on things, but that would be my concern having followed the ups and downs of the RS3 production for years and the great uncertainty and shock that they resumed production at all.

Give the dealer a change to put SSS in at the very least, suggest all other options but SSS are a must in these cars. The interior is well built but it is ‘simple’, the seats add a lot.. but yes, they give very little support.. rubbish in fact (both variants). It wouldn’t be difficult to fit SSS, a bolt in and out job.. I’d be a little more nervous about them fitting trims because of how easy it would be to damage surrounding bodywork. Wheels are also an easy one... all very expensive to the dealer, but the price they will pay could be less than the incentive they feel they need to give you to take the car.

If the dealer damages the car when doing this work in any way, you won’t have put yourself under any obligation to purchase.

Hopefully they are more worried about keeping you happy than just selling to the next person. It’s a great car and it’s worth all the headache you’re having, not that it’s acceptable at all but you will love it.. the 5-cylinder is incredible.

Agreed on all counts. The SSS do add some theatre inside the car. In fact there was a glacier white with black optics in their garage, I walked over to it and it had the SSS, looked fantastic. I’m going to push for those and see how I get on.

There’s no way in the world a dealer will start swapping interior parts etc on a car that wasn’t built with them at the factory.
Warranty will not apply to any added parts because they won’t be applicable at the build stage of the car.

Better to ask them to supply an alternative car closer to the desired spec or build a new one.

Agree with this. If it got damaged while the dealer was changing stuff you wouldn't look at the car the same again - the gloss would be knocked off. I'm not even sure if Audi or the dealer will want to add new parts as they probably believe that there is someone out there to buy it as it is. You might be surprised how poor their compensation offer might be due to this - maybe a few free services or a grand off.
Like T-800 says, get the car you really want - it's a hell of a price for a compromised car otherwise...and Audi should be prepared to boost you up the waiting list for earlier delivery. Hope your supplying dealer isn't the same as mine if so....:box::icon thumright:

personally i wouldnt take it, the balck pack makes such a difference. I actually pulled out of an rs3 purchase a couple of months ago as the dealer had told me it had the black pack, it didnt, it was wrapped. They would have to offer a hell of a sweetener as retro fitting the black pack is the best part of £3000.

its not the car you ordered, you are paying a hell of a lot of cash for it so why should you accept a spec you didnt order? You will only end up regretting it when the new car buzz wears off.

Really sorry to hear that they ballsed up your order.
Just wondering did you use the audi configuator yourself to pick your options?
A colleague of mine ordered an a4 last year and when the car eventually came it turned out there were a few things missing. To cut a long story short the sales assistant screwed up the order at the outset.
He had to re-order himself with the online configuration tool and then went to the dealer with the code.
It's what I did when I ordered my a3 as I was sure they would **** it up.

Hopefully you get sorted. as others have said I wouldn't accept it. Its too big of a purchase and too expensive for it to be not right.

It is really your decision and your original thoughts as per your post re alum and rotors are reasonable. Daytona will look just fine with that spec. SSS seats, I would accept SS with a very healthy cash discount plus a sweetener for the other screw ups. The SSS seats are the same on the seat bottom as the SS, the rest is just extra side support, plus you get all electric adjustments with SS.
I would accept car as is, rather than wait and as AudiNutta mentions Audi cease production and you are left with a very lengthy delivery.

1) order a new car with them - get them to throw in driver assistance FOC!
2) demand to use the order that’s arrived until your new one arrives. Tell them you’ve sold your car and now are car-less, so that needs to happen.

Best of both worlds!

There is NO WAY they would go with 2. A loan car would be possible I am sure given their **** up, but they will have a long list of people waiting to snap up that new RS3 at full list price

Maybe not the most sensible of options but I'd go and view the car first before making any decision.

I think the rotors are the nicer wheel, and if I was going Daytona I'd have gone aluminium not black optics. There's more of a contrast with the darker paint and the aluminium doesn't look like the (cheaper) chrome on a normal A3/S3.

I don't have SS seats. I agree that they look better than standard, but don't really give you any more support and once you're sat in them you aren't looking at them. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Not a must by any means. Certainly didn't put me off buying my second hand RS3, I was WAY more interested in the sports exhaust and mag ride.

I'd go in with a sensible head, see if you like the car as it is, but be polite and firm with Audi making sure they are 100% aware it's not the car you ordered and you are expecting some sensible compensation for their error. Whether that's a discount, free servicing or something else they can offer.

Fair sensible comments there

I bought my previous A3 through audi making a **** up on a order a couple made back in 2015 they spec'd the car to 33k and when it arrived it had heated seats and pan roof missing audi let them have the car for four month until the car they spec'd arrived . I was happy tho i got nearly 8k knocked off the price :icon thumright:

paint the time, wtf....NO WAY, don't accept that what a joke. I would only accept if they could replace all the parts for the correct ones, which for all your items is dead easy. PLUS a 10% discount for the inconvenience and ruining your special day. OR take as is at 50% off lol.

Personally i would reorder and see if they can give you a discount, plus meantime keep the wrong car lol

What a complete nightmare. How they got it so wrong is scary! Like already suggested above, I’d push for SSS to be fitted, and something else in the way of financial compensation, or stick to your guns and get a another car ordered. Either way is far from ideal, so make them work hard to get your trust back.

The standard sport seats are just as comfortable. I think the base is identical. I have SSS in my daily driver 18 S3 and they aren’t worth the money from a comfort point of view. The PFL RS3 has Standard SS was fine... The SSS in my RS4 are in a different league .

I’d explore the option of taking the car and use it whilst ordering the actual spec you want and await delivery.

Depends on what desk you struck when ordering but there may be enough wriggle room for you to pay for this one and hand back the keys with a good gfv and take the new one in 6 months if they can shift it close to list price used.

If you’ve paid close to list price with minimal discount then there’ll be £5-6k of movement in the sale.
If you’ve already realised the discount it may be difficult for them but I’d certainly have a strong discussion with them.

I would not let the dealer have a go at a retrofit of the black pack , I’m not convinced the window trim for example would ever end up as fitted at the factory . Plus at resale time the factory spec of your build won’t match the car which in my mind would raise all kind of questions as to what had been going on .

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. This is bad and like a corner shop trying to sell dried out baked beans as chickpeas by changing the label on the tin. You can't paint them black. This is wrong! I would walk away from the kind of Stealership that offers this kind of "fix"
