400 club (miles per tank, not bhp)

I have had 550 out of mine one one tank - twice! However I have to say it was running on fumes when it came to fill up on both occasions. Both long runs. Normally I get about 380 with a little left.

The last tank which was more representative of normal driving (some booting it):
382 miles
48 litres to refill (so only just gone into the red bit)
36.2 real MPG

For the tank the DIS claimed 37.5MPG so whilst overreading a little it's more accurate than I anticipated.

I must be doing something wrong or I have a very heavy foot. Got 240 to last tank and it took 46l to fill.
Cruising on motorway it shows 35+mpg but miles per tank says otherwise.

Might be worth getting it checked out.

Maybe it’s the lead in my shoe :p
Let me adjust my driving a little and see if it gets any better. It’s just so damn addictive the noise and boost and how quickly you can make progress.

Just filled up and range shows 425 miles. Since fill up I've been doing mostly 60mph B roads, with spells where you can have fun :p it is a 45 mile commute. Filled up on Tuesday. Since then done 8 trips (8 lots of 45) and the fill up was 45ish litres. I worked out the average to be around 37mpg give or take.

Last 3/4s of a tank, 320 miles @ 37.4 (indicated 38.6) mpgs. Fairly happy that the mpg gauge is pretty accurate. Giving up on that now.

Gave it a fair booting for about 70 miles late last night and it still averaged 28mpg

I dare say your stage 2 is a bit thirsty when you boot it :)

Not sure (before we start another controversial post) that my miles per tank has gone from 390 most times to 425/430 since I started using Shell Vpower 5 months ago...

Well a slight improvement 254 miles till the light came on :whistle2: 25mpg ish overall.
I think I need to stop making it go pop and bang. :welcoming:
Run into work today in slow traffic and managed 32mpg.

That'll be the weather/temperature... see what you do in winter.

So I’ve had my S3 around 3 months now and getting around 300 per tank every time, averaging about 28mpg. Mostly used for work which is a mix of start stop due lots of traffic lights and a bit of dual carriageway which sees me sit at 75. I do push it a bit on the more fun spots when traffic permits but they are fairly few and far between unfortunately.

First 1200 miles taking it fairly easily I’m doing 380 to a tank before the light comes on. Not too bad at all, should be a bit better once loosened up. Still feels very tight, hoping a few more ponies will show over the coming miles

I just got an estimate of 400 miles on an 18 S3! It was 350 before but having done 530 miles of sensible driving this week and long motorway trips filled the tank up this morning and it estimates 400 miles.

Best i've had out of a full tank was 325 with about 15 miles of range left . Last fill up i got 300 miles for a full tank .
Mine as done around 1500 miles now from new at the start of march .

I’ve been doing 150 miles a day recently and getting 3 days and 450 miles to each tank. Staying below 80 on motorway but still giving the odd boot. Noticed since I disabled the exhaust flaps I’m getting 40 more miles to a tank

Ps my range was zero miles after one of those tanks and others are 5-10

By disabled, do you mean close or opened?

And is there even any technical explanation around that...? (mine are open all the time if I'm not going 70+). Mpg is improving with the weather though.

Yea coded open all the time. I opened them November time last year and noticed a few mpg jump on my journeys and 420ish mile range when filling up. I then put them back to normal around Xmas and noticed 380 range on fill up and mpg down a few mpg again. Opened them again 6 weeks ago and range jumped instantly back to 420-450 miles and back to seeing 42-43mpg on country lane journeys that were mid 30’s before. I don’t know if I’m losing any power (feels better tbh) but I’m definitely getting an extra 3-4mpg. I’ve also done the direct throttle mod which can hammer the mpg as lighter throttle results in harder acceleration so have to be a little more careful for economical driving. I only ever use dynamic mode and switch gearbox between s and d when needed.

Going down to Italy via the Alps and Tyrol in July and was worried about what it was going to cost as I am averaging around the 28 mark , I will be happy if it will return over 30....

I filled up at 49755 and had 10 miles range just now on 50068, car showed range 400 miles when I first filled up. I drive mostly on efficiency and mostly short journeys with a few short motorway stretches.

PFL S3 (2014)

The computer on my 35tfsi was showing 48.6mpg for the first 1000 miles. This did include more long than short runs.
I totally mullered it though last week with a 600 mile caravan tow. Showed 31mpg into the storm and then 35mpg a few days later on the way home.
I'm pleased with the 35mpg as my previous 2.0L Skoda diesel would do about 36/38mpg towing in the same conditions.

402.6 miles with a bit left still. It took 45.82liters to refill -> 10.079 gallons = 39.94 real world mpgs. Pretty damn good tbh and Im impressed. The first 200 miles of that was mostly sat on the motorway at just under 80. The rest was commuting on a bit of motorway and back roads either sat at the speed limit or following everyone else.
Unfortunately I didnt reset the long term mpg counter at the start, but I know the first 200 miles it claimed 39 and the rest was low 40s up to 51 so it probably over reads a bit, maybe 10%, 15%.

Now that's done its time to add in a bit of fun again :)

Did Miss daisy thank you for the ride? :smirk:

No, she continually moaned about how slowly I was accelerating, which just became noise as I fixated on the mpg gauge and repeatedly muttered "must .. not .. go .. below .. 40" ... much to her disapproval.

My god was it boring but even with the remap my S3 is capable of 400 to a tank.

47.7 blimey.. That's more than my 64 plate 2.0 TDI average during the time I had it lol.

Haha my long term average over 21k miles is closer to 25. It was nearly 28 before the remap at 14k.

Must be my lead foot cause mine isn’t even giving me 300 per tank. Best I’ve had is around 330.

In fairness it’s taken me 21,000 miles to finally achieve this LOL.

I’m normally in the low 300’s too. Before the remap was mid to high 300’s. So I’m happy my S3 can still be frugal if I need it to be.

Mine is similar with or without the mtm chip.
Scary thinking about it as I used to get close to 60mpg in my 3.0 tdi a6 barge.

My remap hasn't made any difference to economy really either. I actually had one of my best trips when returning from Manchester after getting it done... I'm still never in the 40s though.

But yeah, mpg seems the same post remap. When flooring it, yeah it might drink it quicker possibly, but for day to day..same old.
