Best Car GPS Security Tracker

I had the MTrack fitted - it is a small battery tracker that reports position every 6 hours and has GPS and a 2G network connection and RF. Because it reports only once every six hours it doesn’t show up on any scan that could be done by the thief.

We put it in a place where no one would ever look as its very small. It was £115 plus £16.50pm - I could have paid £300 for a year but decided to do monthly. I think that it is totally worth it.

I do wish they had an app instead of logging into their site and the site could do with an design makeover but I know this works and my car is tracked now. If it was stolen they activate it so it connects and updates position continuously. Supposedly this unit has 18-24 months battery life but the battery is easily swappable. It is a 16,000Mah battery.

That is a good idea but that subscription is quite expensive, then again the Vodafone one is £215 but you get to track the car 24/7.

The tracker Ive installed from Rewire was less than £80 and gives 24hr tracking via phone app or web. It can be configured to give notifications of ign on, out of zone and many others. For me it was an absolute bargain.

But mine is battery - that’s the key here. No wires for them to look for. Discreet for me is key. But I can cancel at any time but I’d lose the tracking.

Yeah being battery has some clear advantages. The 6hr updates would be an issue for me as sometimes my car is unattended for longer than that, such as in the car park at work. If someone lifted or towed it 10mins after I parked it would be a long way away in 6hrs.

Although my tracker is wired it has a small power capacitor and will send a push notification to my phone that its power has been cut. Wiring can also be hidden well with a bit of planning and routing of wires.

I'm using CarLock. It's a OBD2 solution so it has its flaws but combined with other measures (physical lock, faraday pouch, cctv) I feel somewhat satisfied.

I have the same issue but if you return and the car is stolen you call them up and they activate it so it’s actively broadcasting live.

The every 6 hours is to maintain battery. And for my needs that’s fine. I’d prefer not to have a DD but it’s only £20 more on DD than paying up front.

trackers are easily bypassed. Been required through work before to open a warehouse door as the police were getting a tracker signal from within, well lets just say when we popped the shutter open there were easily over 50+ high end vehicles, all stolen, within. They had a network of pc's and signal jammers running that stopped the tracker signal from getting out, only got caught as one of the pc's crashed. Even the police were amazed.

so thats why for me it will be an AWG, if its stolen to order its more likely gong to be an organised gang like above and a tracker will be useless.

Absolutely, if someone wants it they will take it. From a brief bit of looking at trackers when I got the ghost fitted they are easily jammed (anyone with kit for relay theft will most likely also have jammer). From what I recall the only model with vhf signal running alongside the standard mobile phone system to still be locatable in the event of a signal jammer is the original tracker - which was really spendy upfront and per month. The way I see it (I accept all viewpoints are as valid as mine - just articulating and rationalising my decision!) is if they break in and take the car by force it will be a stolen to order car and will be in a container or in bits within the police response time and gone - hence the gap cover. My ghost installer also fitted trackers and said (not sure if true) if a car is stolen and returned the insurers attach a code to it akin (but obviously not the same as) to a cat c /d etc write off which may have to be declared at sale and reinsure to identify it as stolen/recovered (again not sure if true). My insurance premium didn't change if I had a tracker fitted when I called to ask.
I figured ghost would offer some protection to being forced to hand over keys if for example walking back to car from work / shopping etc. Gives a chance to hand over keys and leg it safe in the understanding the car would still be there! I'm under no illusion that if the car is identified for theft by an organised group there is little I could do to stop it, or get the car back.

What’s wrong with the standard Audi one fitted? It tells you exactly where it is the same as any other tracker would
I had my S3 stolen in March & the blocked the Audi tracker so would recommend something extra too.

When you say Audi tracker, do you mean the one they fit aftermarket? Vodafone CobraTrak?

No trace of it at all? How soon after it was taken was it blocked?

No just the FIND MY AUDI tracker on the app, I went straight to the dealer when i couldn't see the car on the app, they asked if i had my 8 digit pin, when i gave it to them they said great we can find your car, they returned within a few minutes & said the sim had been blocked :wtf: any tracker with a sim card can be blocked pretty easily now (apparently) according to the DC dealing with my case????

Oh okay, didn’t know that you could track with the inbuilt SIM?

I believe they just put jammers in the car, I know the CobraTrak sends an alert as soon as they lose signal or suspect a jamming device but not much good once it’s been jammed...

Thieves are too clever these days.

So they took the SIM out!?!

Hardly advanced car theft, just open the glove box and push the SIM card and toss it out the window

Appreciate a proper tracker can be blocked also but FIND MY AUDI is not a proper tracker, it’s more a convenience extra when you can’t find your car (i.e. where did I park it) rather than tracking thief’s.

Dont think the find my audi feature is available in the app anymore, and even when it was it did not track the car only the phone and was used for car parking location etc.

There is a built in eSim in these cars so disabling it is not as simple as removing the sim from the glovebox, that sim is a secondary sim that can be used instead of the eSim if needed.

I have learned a fair bit about security since this has happened to me, my new car will have proper devices on it, a friend of mine is hooking me up with 3 of the best, obviously not gonna say what they are but it should be a massive help hopefully.

AWG is all that is required.. mind I’ve a tracker as well but got a deal on that so thought why not for added peace of mind..
