Hey everyone I have an S4 B7 auto and am finding the standard exhaust pretty quiet. I like the tailpipes though, I just fancy a bit more grumble.

The only two main off the shelf products seem to be Milltek or Magnaflow, I have considered custom ones but do not entirely trust the reviews I have seen online.

I would be happy to get just a the catless downpipes and the centre pipes (H pipe?) from Milltek, however I see the comment about manual only and needing a remap/ rest of the exhaust system.

Anyway, i have blabbered on too much, so my questions are:

- Has anyone else with the auto tried the Milltek downpipes and if so how easy were they to fit? Do I have any other options for catless downpipes?

- Any other recommendations? I have watched a ton of YouTube vids on the subject and most of the cars I have seen either do not specify the gearbox and/ or I find the exhausts still sound pretty similar to standard. (I did a search on this subject and could not find any threads matching, apologies if this is something I have blindly missed)

Any advice is appreciated, thanks all.

Hi Rob I don't have any experience with the automatic box so can't comment on that however I have an s4 cab with the milltek non res system fitted (standard cats and downpipes)
The milltek definitely makes a difference compared to standard, if you pm me your email I can send you a before and after sound sample. Some people complain about the milltek droning particularly in the auto at cruising speeds/rpm but it doesn't bother me if anything I want a bit more snarl and crackle. As I understand it removing the precats will help with this.

The milltek catless downpipes will throw up a check engine light which would need to be coded out in a remap as I believe these are now fails at mot time. It may be possible to space the lambda sensor out of the flow enough that it doesn't cause an error.

In general the feeling from tuners in the US is that the milltek system and downpipes are too small at 2.25 inch and most recommend 2.5inch. Whilst you might not be chasing big power if you are going to the trouble of doing downpipes I'd be tempted to go custom and go 2.5 all the way back and with an electronic or pneumatic valve to bypass the backbones.

You could try just keeping the standard boxes but just cut the middle box out and weld a straight through pipe. I did that on my tfsi and a friend did that on his RS5. Both sounds awesome.

Cheaper too

Hi thanks for that I will def PM you, I appreciate the info. Snarl and crackle are definitely what I want, not sure if possible with having the auto which is a shame.

That is tempting thank you!

Thanks for the info everyone, I am getting some great ideas.

Well the custom places I have contacted have been happy to quote for cat back systems so there is that. However I do like the like of the standard tips.

The other Rob on here has recommended the 034 HFCs which might be a good option in addition to an X/H pipe. The milltek one says it doesnt fit with a standard system but ive got a mate with a welder who seems to think it will so this might be next: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milltek-...ntre-Pipes-MSAU177REP-MSAU178REP/232494861547. Petetheprop recommended the 2.5 rather 2.25 so I see Magnaflow have a few choices I could try those too.

I have just had a new o2 sensor fitted so the downpipes can wait for a while.

seriously mate.

just remove the middle box and weld a straight through pipe. should cost you £250 tops.

if your on instagram then look at my mates rs5. his insta is @lewis4153

it will be the best £250 you will spend
