Lady luck strikes again eh
Stainless steel holds heat like a b#tch and as the chinafold is cast stainless & thick that heat will take some time........what's up with the small air filter? Couldn't you of gotten a bigger one!!!!lmao

Yeah will need to check it a couple times, I should have done it before... oops.

Nothing wrong with it really mate, but as I was going to change my setup around because it was a bit of a ball ache and everything would have gotten in the way when the next stage of works are been done. Felt natural to put in a bigger one. :)

Thought I’d give the Acceleration thing a go on the ColourMFA. My launch wasn’t the best, little hesitant off the line so to speak...

But not bad, I think I could get 4.9 secs if I really try.

In recent news of my car I’m still the optimist... ECU not communicating with the rest of the car, the investigation will continue in the hands of Badger5.

Something tells me it could be low voltage, but having tried a few suggestions still no luck pinpointing the problem.

In any case, I am more focused now to get it where I want it to be. Driving the car over the weekend has been a dream, loving the power delivery and as everything else had settled down.... for example the new clutch and my exhaust drone slowly disappearing!

I’ve decided to take the plunge and bought the infamous Ignitron ECU, having heard so many amazing things with it and seen how transparent the logging, tuning, options and features are. Seems like the logical choice to allow my car to progress fully and more safely.

This will allow me to run Mafless, eliminating another restriction with our cars and as these things have a tendency to fail more often these days, so far I’ve replaced one everything 12-15 months. The ECU will pay for itself in years to come.

I’ve also acquired some fine parts from our resident perfectionist Tuffty. The custom large port inlet manifold, 63mm charge pipes, rocker cover, etc. All to help my car breath nicely with the welly cooler that Badger5 are going to be fitting for me. I’m also going to be running a secondary water meth nozzle post throttle body. The nozzle I’ve bought is a snow performance hypersonic #1 which is 60ml/60psi all the various bits and bobs to run it including a CoolingMist solenoid, which surprisingly is very small and but shouts quality.

Sorry I haven’t got any pics to add at the moment but I will when it’s all up together :)

Ye mate I’m 50/50 on g25 or stay hybrid even tho it’s never been run yet. Just got in my head engine is out why don’t I do all the work now.

Gutted Iv only just seen all tufftys parts for sale wow I’d of had a lot of that ££££ bit gutted to say the least haha.

The G25 turbo have brought some good results to the table! I bought my hybrid from Bill just before I knew about them. I think if I were to do it again I would have gone G25-550. But I’m very happy with the hybrid, lovely turbo and nice power delivery.

I was very fortunate to get hold of Tufftys items. In the past I’ve seen things go for sale and annoyed to didn’t get hold of them. Wasn’t going to pass this chance up for sure.

Ye mate great choice we’ll done if I do go g25-660 I’ll have to sell the turbo kit and also source a lot more parts.

I need 6k sat there easy plus I’m gonna need to get the ignitron ECU although I’m no good at all with reading those charts and stuff so no way would I be able to map or change things if needed to, guess I’ll always have help here haha.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’m in the same boat as you with ignitron. Those tables mean nothing to me, but I’m wanting to learn. At least get an understanding what I’m seeing.

Keep us informed how you get on with it. :)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ye take me a while but the learning will be a good bonus for us, even if I just learn what values they should be and what’s what is great progress but till then we will have fun haha.

I’m excited for all the features that are on the Ignitron ECU. It’s always being updated too. Launch control, shift lights, the list goes on and on

Ye I cannot ain’t to have Daves s3 done and add this as a very good add on with a lot of goodies in it to keep us busy.

I dropped a valve last time I used anti lag don’t fancy messing with that again... cost me a new engine build lmao.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah I won’t be using anti lag, no need with these little hybrids. You’ll only benefit anti lag with a large turbo, something like a GT42.... anti lag was only really developed for rally/race cars. Where turbos and engines were replaced frequently. 2 step launch control however, that’s worth having

Ignitron has an antilag feature that doesn't use the typical retarded ignition approach so you don't pop and bang through changes... it will do pops and bangs too but I used this over the that method and it significantly improves progression through the gears...

My engine would hold about a bar of boost in between changes

That’s interesting! Now you’ve mentioned that Tuffty. Does sound like a good option. Still, I’m sure it wouldn’t be much use on a small turbo (hybrid) would it? I wouldn’t mind a few pops and bangs ;) the good kind of course.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ye does sound great and pops and gangs I’d also like suppose that’s where super tech valves come In for peace of mind too. In my case that is.

Not really... supertechs will take a kicking just as much as any other valve... they would just survive a little longer between failures... you can still bend supertechs with pops and bangs...

Cool your going over to ignition, see a fair few ppl using it on the groups now & loving it.....probably a bit more than I'd like to spend with my set up but I'm very interested to see how it performs with yours bud.

Is your car large port or small?

I’ve gone way over budget with my car, it’s almost at the point of no return now.... so must push on haha. Looking forward to having it all up and running again in a much more freer flowing, happier, safer form.

My cars a small port mate, using a large port head isn’t the done thing with a hybrid. Unless of course you want to drive like a diesel, loose a lot of top end as I understand it.

Did you get it going yet?

Been in London mate since it happened. Worked this weekend and the next (bank holiday weekend) but the first weekend of June, I’ll have another look at it. I’ve ordered a new ECU relay, I’ll check all the grounds and fuses again. Failing that.... I’ll be trailering it over to Bills on the 3rd for them to fathom it out and to fit the rest of the stuff (Inlet manifold, rocker cover, charge pipes, 2nd meth nozzle, welly cooler, interchangeable 200 cell cat and the ignitron ECU)

Haha I like your thinking, you must be single with that attitude or very clever at covering things up lmao.

It's ok I was only asking as I had a look at tuffys parts he had for sale & saw the manifold was large port so just assumed you was either large port or will be using one of those transition spacers? I missed out on his baffled sump but have gotten hold of a weld in kit to use with the original sump.

I'm sure you can use a large port head with a hybrid you just sacrifice torque onset my understanding......I think the diesel effect comes from a stroker with a hybrid

Yeah your right, it’s when your running a hybrid with a stroker engine. Honestly my heads all over the place right now.....

Which of course answers your question, yeah I’m single (Now) unfortunately, much to my disappointment. But yes I was clever covering up the expenses haha (its an investment darling, trust me)

No she didn’t leave me because of my car haha. Long story, won’t be going into it.

Yeah I’ve ordered a 034 Motorsport transitional phenolic spacer from awesomegti

Meh don't lose sleep over it, plenty more out there, you know what they say "use it or lose it" lol. Just make sure you pick a gooden........currently dragging my ex through the courts to get access to my son! That sh#t empties a bank account quicker than any s3 build will believe me.......ok maybe not that quick lol

I take it ignitron works fine with mfa?

Ok you win! That’s sucks. Hopefully it’ll go your way. But yeah.... questionable with the bank account depletion haha.

I think it’s in the works that MFA will work along side it. Obviously you’ll still be able to monitor the other modules, just not the engine for the time being.

I’ll be able to see what will and will not work currently once it’s all up and running

Well.... having sussed out why my car died on me! Water + ECU = dead.

Dried it all out and sprayed quick dry contact cleaner in there but it’s very dead now being sat for 2-3 weeks. Everything will have shorted out in there.

Cause of this is my scuttle panel, been on and off a few times now and it’s not sealing properly. I’m going to contact TPS/AUDI tomorrow and see if I can get a new one.

Scuttle panel - 8L1819415B 01C

Certainly don’t want this happening again once I’ve got the Ignitron ECU fitted.

In other news, I’ve collected all the bits and bobs needed for the next stage of works.

f02f30f74ea16b78957f6481a8b014d6.jpg

This consists of my meth nozzle adaptor from Creation Motorsport, which WILL need modifying in order to work. I’ve got my 90 degree elbow for the nozzle and a snow performance 60ml nozzle (size 1) also got the CoolingMist solenoid to control all this and prevent none required water meth getting into the engine. Got my 034 phenolic larger port to small port transitional spacer so I can run Tufftys inlet manifold.

Still waiting on my 70mm throttle body which I should get in a day or two. This will mean I’ll have to bore out the water meth nozzle sandwich plate from 60mm to 70mm. Which will actually help with getting the nozzle flush to the walls of the adaptor allowing a perfect spray and not hitting the sides.

Ive also got my replacement HID ballast from Trups which I’ll be fitting this week....

Fingers crossed all goes to plan :)

New scuttle panels are still available I have a brand new one for when the works finished on mine, they are around £75 from the parts request, can you not pack it up and cover the ecu incase it happens again

Wow £75 they’ve gone up in price. Reading back some threads and they were around £35-£40! I have actually bought some Butyl tape, which is double sided. Should create a nice waterproof seal.... but the VIN window on mine is fubar’d as is the area where the pollen filter in placed. So I’ll probably buy a new one anyway regardless of price as well as using the Butyl tape.

Yeah as stock goes lower price goes up unfortunately

Just checked and I paid £65 in November

It's not the scuttle that's normally the problem... It's the channel under the windscreen that it clips into that's the issue...

It comes loose from the screen and as you try to push the scuttle in the 'clip' it folds down and doesn't latch in...

Ah ok mate, I’ll check that out also. I will probably get a new scuttle panel anyway. Mines seen better days for sure. :)

So a carbide bit, a drill and some cutting oil later.....

My CM 60mm Water-meth sandwich plate is now 70mm. As you can see helps a great deal with the depth of the nozzle hole. Shouldn’t have any issues now with the spray hitting to walls of the hole.

For those looking into new scuttle panels...... don’t bother. Unfortunately VAG stopped manufacturing these in August 2018. So those who have managed to get hold of one, will have been what was left in stock.

I’ll have to make do with my current one and seal it all up nice a tight with Butyl tape.

I’m wondering is there anything on the market for protecting the ECU from water damage?

Seems to be going that way with a lot of them I was lucky then getting mine , I might have to build a stockpile of spares for the future

Your not even joking are you Tuffty? Haha

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nope... if you can't prevent water from getting to the ECU then you can prevent it from getting on/in

deflect water away from it so to speak
