My s3 v6 build

What do you use on your big turbo builds if running ME7.5? Or do you run aftermarket on all your big turbo builds?

What ecu are you planning on using Tj?

I think for now until next year will be running standard ecu and I’m told would need to go 4”maf
What would you recommend in that case
not a fan of the supersize. can stick. needs 2 x shims plus red spring minimum.
if on mafless ecu, atmos 50mm bov may be better choice. (wooshy tho)

I think a maf on a turbo that size would likely be unreliable, who suggested 4” maf? Your chosen tuner? Ignitron would be best.

Ignition was my 1st choice will have to wait till next year unfortunately have a lot to pay for this year so don’t see it happened but fingers crossed, on r32oc I’m told to use the united motorsports 4” maf and use waste gate spring to set boost pressure that’s how they seem to do it instead of using map sensors,

I’m looking at clutch options what’s brands are there that are worth using I know of sachs but what else ?
Also I’d like to stay dmf if possible( and under 1k) as the smf I had was noises on idle so do I go go 4 puck, 6 puck, organic, Kevlar , twin plate the mind boggles at all the options
Also since both the 1.8t and vr6 are o2m gearboxes can I use the sacs 1.8t setup every seems to use on the bt builds ?

I think with a vr6 big turbo, you’re going to be putting out too much torque for a organic plate. For example the Sachs one I had was officially rated at 390 ft lbs which you will surpass. I’m expecting you’ll be around the high 400 ft lbs - 500 ft lbs. All things being equal, a 6 paddle will last longer than a 4 paddle but won’t take as much torque. In theory it should be easier to drive in stop start traffic too. To be honest I don’t know anyone who has used a 6 paddle on a vag set up myself, everyone seems to 4 paddles on the very high power builds.

Good question about the 02m Gearbox, Id assume you can but someone more knowledgable may know about any minor differences between the boxes. Are you planning to do any strengthening to the box?

I can only recommend the clutchmasters kit - high end kit that'll take the punishment

Unfortunately NO 1.8 setup will fit on a VR - the bolt holes just don't line up in any sort of configuration.
You will absolutely need a VR specific flywheel. clutch and pressure plate can be whatevs - so this is going to cost you a new DMF.

No really thought about strengthening the box but did plan sorting the weak link n the selector fork , if I remember right it’s swapping the rivet for a bolt ?

Had I thought today should I be changing the wrist pin when changing the rods or are They reusable

Yeah either do that or switch to the 02Q forks - you might as well when the box is split from the engine :)

Should be alright to re use unless they don't fit or damaged.

I covered all this on my build thread when I blew the transfer box :)

What page Roughly ? Your thread should have an index page, pretty much everything is in there it’s just a case of finding it ha

Cheers tuffty seems quite daunting taking that on, how much do you think someone would charge for that ?
If you order the 02Q forks - it's plug and play - get gotta remember to get new input shaft seal

finally got my cluster sent off to have the colormfa fitted and bought half the new engine mounts needed , this is taking longer than I thought to get all the bits together so looks like being ready for “aitp” this year wont be happening , I’m tempted to open the runners on the exhaust manifold incase it cause’s misfires like the chinafold does if it’s not opened up, suppose it won’t do no harm if it’s not needed

Are 1.9tdi clutch disc useable as long as it’s a 02m clutch disc

Found a toyosports type b with some fitting whilst looking for a 50mm bov,n ot a bad price and considering that toyosports today said there’s a 4-6 week wait till they get more in stock but last month it was a 2 week wait so I thought I might as well get it

Is it worth upgrading the radiator to csf one or is that only really needed with a track toy. @Prawn did you notice any benefits with yours?

Also engine mounts turned up today Jesus the dig bone on is massive didn’t realise it were that big

Your getting there mate, when do you intend to start to build/swap? You can’t be far off now

Hopefully not far the need list is shorter than the got list , il get the last engine mount Friday, clutch, wastegate and 50mm bov the Friday after, then the only major expenses will be ecu and exhaust and be good to go will have to sort all the fab side of things then once engine is in the bay like downpipe, oil+water lines, fmic pipe work, oil cooler mounting And still need to do the f in wiring the mfsw (I know still not done it ) you have any joy with yours?

Awesome stuff! Look forward to reading your progress as you build and fit it all. You going ignitron Ecu? Seems the logical choice with your setup.

Mine.... don’t go there haha, I’m trying to see the lighter side of things. I will get it up and running again, well... I say “I” I mean Badger5 those guys are the best.

Yeah will be ignitron and a Maffless setup, I hate to think of the problems il have with getting mine up and running but that’s part of the fun well until it starts costing money ha

Haha from what I’ve recently learnt. No matter how much money to throw at the car..... it always costs just that little bit more when you don’t expect it. I think I’m going to go ignitron! Was talking with Bill on Monday and it seems like the next best thing. I’d also be going mafless.

It wasn’t originally.... I was just booked in for the custom welly cooler to be supplied and fitted and to check my exhaust, see why is droning so much.

But the I bought loads of stuff from Tuffty, decided to add another water meth injector post throttle body and then the ECU.

Then of course the issue that’s suddenly arose.

His turbo? Or Will you be sticking with the hybrid? Did you get his inlet manifold?

No I think he’s keeping the turbo, I’m staying with the hybrid.

Yeah bought his inlet manifold, charge pipes, VVT tensioner incase mine gives up the ghost, rocker cover and a couple other bits and bobs.

The inlet is impressive was thinking of painting mine black today or crinkle but the crinkle looks **** if it goes wrong , also been looking at the hpa controller aswell gutted I didn’t snatch one up for £400 a few months back

The inlet manifold was a massive feat, so much work involved a real tribute to Tufftys prefect ways and the ultimate OEM+ as I’m going 63mm pipework everywhere else now, made sense to have his charge pipes, etc.

Anyone had a sintered clutch ? Are they any good?
Best clutch option I’ve come across without spending well over 1k is a Sachs sintered 6 puk disc with a Sachs pressure plate that is rated to740nm for £500 (dmf not included) and can be used with stock dmf or for extra £200 more than price of a stock one A Sachs 4kg lighter dmf, will the 4kg make much difference? Other option is a Sachs smf kit rated to 800nm for £900 but I’d don’t really want to go smf route

Eddie from club GTI fame used a std DMF, cover and sachs 4 Puck on his...

However I know Bill has had to use a sachs pressure plate on a couple of big turbo 1.8t's as the std cover plate wasn't quite enough..

The setup is on the edge I think at 450ftlbs (torque based on figures from Bill's dyno) with the std cover plate...

I have had the 4 puk - great and grabby but very on & off.

You will just need to re-learn how to use it.

That’s some good info in there I think Il go with the uprated coverplate , so that’ll be around 540 ftlbs of torque if the claimed figures are right ,that’s one headache sorted are the lighter flywheels worth the extra for a road car ? Won’t be a daily

Found this haldex upgrade today anyone seen this before?
6780 sek to gbp = £556
4000 sek to gbp refund for your old unit = £238
Sounds good upgrade for £300 with a year warranty

Not seen that one before, interesting though. Not a bad price.... however, doesn’t the ignitron Ecu now support haldex control in the most recent firmware update?

I don’t know, although I will be using the ignitron I’ve not really been looking at it’s full capabilities as I probably wouldn’t know how to use it anyway, like the map tweak it’s a good feature but I doubt il be able to use it without mucking it up
