New owner after some advice

Here is one that is listed as for the sline will keep hunting for the others

https://www.madmotors.co.uk/body-ki...audi-a6-4f-08-11-front-bumper-lip-s-line.html

Nope. This is not my cup of tea.
Straight one I’m after.

I’m still in between mods from my list but meant to do side skirts. Just don’t know what colour to go with.
Also, found really nice rear top spoiler which replaces the Sline one in the tailgate. It looks like to RS6 spoiler but not fancy, at the moment to pay £150 to paint it in the car colour. Just like the side skirts.
Spoiler itself is just under £70 and a pair of side skirts also about that.

I agree mate not much about really, my list keeps getting bigger but just no time at the minute. Either gonna go for the grill or lip next not sure thats if I can find a decent one that Isnt stupid money.

Would you not have a go at spraying the skirts yourself?

If I go with details car already got, skirts will be silver matt and I can do it myself.
If I would want to have them in car colour, proper spraying is more than twice as much as the skirts them self.

Was thinking about matching spray cans with paint code and DIY both, spoiler and skirts.

Cannot decide

Looks good that mate, id be tempted to wrap them would be easier than spraying them

Side skirts to wrap in silver would be easier than wrapping them in a car colour. Vinyl to match car colour might be more £££ than paint itself and professional spray job.

Think I’m gonna go with silver to match rear diffusor and front bumper lip under the grille.
Also, side of the car is dark with handles and lower chrome trims plasti dipped in Black so silver skirts will also brake that.

Sounds good they do help break up the dark well. Will look the part im sure!

Im trying to decide if I should black the trim out and the badges etc. I know it would work with the light coloured paint but I dont mind the chrome to be honest. May just wait until it starts going milky and then black it out

Just ordered myself a second hand bluefin handset from eBay for the grand total of £16! Will cost £225 to have it reset and a new map put on so all in with postage should be about £250. Saved over £100 there!

Well got my handset back from superchips today. Flashed the new map anf so far im very happy!

1St gear now seems to be usable, 2nd again a bit better, 3rd gear and the grin begins to show especially once the turbo comes in, 4th love it! Big cheesy grin plenty of pull for me.

Not managed to take it into the higher gears but gonna go for a run tomorrow as the Dpf is showing as 85% full so gotta get her nice and warm.

Happy customer so far

Help me!! My blower seems to have developed a vibration. It doesnt seem to be affected by the aircon being on or off.

My assumption is that either the motor is on its way out or a bit of rubbish has made its way in.

Ive watched a video on YouTube showing the location of the pollen filters, under the dash? Is the only way in to the fan area from the top? Removing the wipers etc etc?

Old passat was nice and easy just a cover off and you could see in from the top, this seems like a pain in the backside!

Anyone else experienced this?

Blower noise seems to have fixed itself, guessing it was crap causing the noise.

I've been running a few logs and noticed that my boost was reading the same with or without the bluefin. I spoke to them and they said they do increase boost a bit but only enough to get a clean burn.

I then read on another forum post that the stock map sensor will max out at about 22psi which is what mine appeared to be running stock.

If that is correct do I need a 3 bar sensor to take advantage of the increased boost?

Ok ignore me! Spoke to superchips who advised the reading is maxing out to due my cheapo obd Bluetooth adapter. On the hunt for a new one

Does anyone know if there is any major differences in the profile of the bottom of the front bumper between pre race and face lift?

Looking at splitters and most are listed as being from the pre face only.

I've tried to find half decent pics to compare but I can't really tell.

In the same boat, Sean.
If bot that, getting one which isn't going to be crazy money is also not possible.

Recently had a bumper off and forgot to take the shape traced on some cardboard.
Considering making the splitter myself.
Don't like the common Cupra one

Nearest and cheapest I've found so far is the maxton one at about 130 but just can't confirm it will fit and they charge a restock fee when sending back.

I also don't like the cupra one it doesn't look wide enough.

Been comparing pictures and the profile does look different on the pre face but the RS6 maxton splitter Is a possibility they look like s s closer match

Not been on here for a while, baby is hard work and just started a new job.

Looking to get a honeycomb grill but wanted one with the chrome surround, there are a few on eBay that are either a fair bit more expensive than the black ones or have this odd looking plate holder which I'm unsure about.

The plan was to keep the chrome surround but then wrap it and the other chrome trims in black chrome, thought I'd try something different to the usual black. Thoughts anyone?

By keeping the chrome surround if the wrap looks stupid I could just whip it off.

To anyone who's wrapped their chrome trim, if you could buy a sheet large enough to cut it to the shape rather than use tape would you? Would it be any easier?

Managed to find the style of grill I was after in the UK too so hopefully here by Friday. Also ordered a sheet of black chrome vinyl to have a go at the chrome trim on the front grill. If that looks ok I'll get the rest done. Should have enough vinyl for two attempts and since I'll already have the grill off should be a bit easier.

Anyone who has de chromed before, what did you do with the chrome strip running along the doors? Leave them alone?

When I was doing de-chrome, I plasti dipped it all.
Strip on the doors has left but handles and frame around the windows peeled off.

You can use the black wrap you got.

I tried it also with black electrical tape, as it's soft and mouldable. It didn't worked out on the window frames as the back corner is quite sharp and thick.
Not sure how it would look on the doors.

Cheers mate, I've bought one large square to do the grill in one piece, I was thinking of buying another piece large enough so I could cut it to the shape of the window trim rather than trying to bend a straight piece to the shape.

Will see how the front looks with the black chrome wrap first. According to the listing this stuff doesn't really stretch so I'll probably ruin it and give up but we will see.

Picked up my grill today, quality looks decent just a bit of a pain that I can't remove the chrome from the rest of the grill like you can on the OEM ones. I have spotted a smell scratch in the chrome but it's at the bottom so not too fussed hopefully this wrap will look ok when it arrives. Also waiting on a wrapping kit which should hopefully help out.

Had to send my grill back unfortunately, took it out when my vinyl had arrived and noticed like tarnish on the chrome and a slight dent on the chrome where the fixing points are. Asked the seller for a replacement and if that one's crap I'll have to try elsewhere

Finally got a decent honeycomb grill, I did want to keep the chrome surround and thought I'd ordered the right one but it turned out to be silver but I don't mind. I bought some black chrome wrap to have a go at wrapping the frame but I failed miserably. After pulling the wrap off it took some of the very thin silver paint off the frame so I'm going to have to fix this first.

I'm left with a few options

I can either plastic dip the frame silver (going to have to go over the window trims too)

Paint the surround as I'm not sure how well the plastic dip holds up ( will have to do something with the window trim so it matches)

Or potentially take the chrome trim off my current grill and hope it fits? I've been trying to find pictures of the trim removed so I can see what the tabs look like but I've not found any yet so if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Also can you Get wet and dry on the chrome window trim to give It a sort Of brushed look?

Sean, I have plasti dipped my whole grille with surround, although it was black but I have to say, I have mixed opinion on the dip now.
It came out well as I opted for the black matt finish. They key to remove it by peeling off afterwards is a proper prep.
I haven't done so as there were too many honeycombs to degrease and prep, what resulted dip to stick to it well. It never even started to peel off but when I decided to go back to original Black gloss, it took me ages to clean this off.
I did some write up about it.
Still have some residue if dip in the hard to reach honeycomb corners. Plan to get on with it one day.

As for the window surrounds, I had them also dipped in matt black.
Write up about it also was made and I have failed there again.
Rubbers on the window frames, when it shuts in the car, was rubbing dipped chrome frames and started to peel it off.
It resulted with horrible dip flakes hanging off and chrome showing through it all over the upper trim.
Peeled it off right after.
Had it on the car for about a week.
Prep and masking the car off took me a day! Peeling it all off took 15 minutes.

Only bit I had left from the chrome trims on the doors is the lower door trim and handles.
Handles eventually peeled off with time, after about 5-6 months after and the lower chrome is still there, about 2 years now.
Noticed last time I washed the car that it started to come off but thinking of getting the gloss vinyl and re-do them and handles again that way.
Also have a plan of the silver bit around the clocks and on the centre console to be wrapped in it. Still deciding.

As easy dipping is and it looks, if you're not prep it properly, you will end up cleaning it all off with white spirit. A lot of it.

Why cant you just spray it gloss black?

Also can you Get wet and dry on the chrome window trim to give It a sort Of brushed look?
Never tried or heard anyone doing that.
Guess it might look nice and matching centre console silver trim and internal door trims.
It may be also impossible as chrome is thinly layered there? and might show through, if given too much work in particular spot.

Again will ask here, can you not spray it gloss black?

Vinyl wrap is best way of changing the colour not permanently.
Been there and been also advised the same by members who've done it and results were stunning.

Hello mate, thanks for the reply. I'm not spraying the honeycomb at all I can imagine that to be a nightmare. The grill I bought already has the honeycomb sprayed gloss black.

I didn't really want to dechrome as such but thought I'd try something a bit different and go with black chrome. Wrapping the grill surround looked easy on videos but was a right pig and I gave up and binned it but I've now damaged the paint on the silver frame but to be honest the paint is so thin I'm glad I noticed this now instead of it getting cakes in stone chips once fitted.

After watching a few YouTube videos the tabs on the chrome frame look to be in the same places do I'm hoping I can remove that part and fix it to the honeycomb.

Youre experience with plastdip has put me off so if the chrome frame doesn't fit I'll have to respray the silver and maybe have a go at the chrome window trim.

I googled the brushed effect and people have done it on the interior door handles by rubbing them over with a scotch brite pad. Could try it somewhere not very obvious first to see how it looks.

You put a lot of effort into that plastic dip, shame it didn't last.

Managed to fit the grill this afternoon, luckily the chrome frame fit straight to the new grill without issue. No problems with the grill fitting the bumper either.

Only issue I did have was not being able to get those 10 mm nuts back on that you access from the wheel arch, Could do with a hand from Jeremy beadle getting them back on.

Going to see if my dad's got a flexible extension as I couldn't seem to get the right angle.

Now the grill is gloss I think I want to copy the honeycomb fog grills @KrisKrk done and gloss black them.

Only took one quick picture as it was getting on and my back was broken and just wanted to sit down.

I wonder how it would look with a bit of stainless pipe between the two intercoolers (which are tiny! I wasn't expecting them to be that small!)

Glad you got it all back together, mate.

Them bumper 10mm nuts accessible from wheel arches are pita. Had to get a long ratchet extension just for that use. I didn't used it elsewhere yet and had for 2 years.
Also, you need to get them in at the right angle, otherwise they will not screw on.
Drivers side is ok, as you have more space to wigle the spanner but near side isn't that generous in space.

You could spray paint that pipe there as you had the bumper off.
I didn't done it when fitting the dipped grille but I have finally sprayed it black, when was removing the dip. Glad I did that as it hidden that piping.

Looking at your car, you could benefit with more black inserts, such as dechroming.
Imho, it would give it more stealth and angry look.

They are a nightmare aren't they! I only tried the passenger side, lost the nut so tried with the other and dropped that one too! Managed to find them both and thought did it I'll revisit with different tools or the wheels off!

I forgot about spraying crash bar until I went to put the bumper on. Only thing I had was a bit of anthracite plastdip and didn't think it would be good to spray on the IC pipe as I'm not sure how hot it gets .

Ive seen a few A6's in this colour with all the black trim and sometimes I like it others I don't but I have I spare surround now so plenty of time to try things out. I might even try wrapping it again.

All you need is a few 1/4 drive extensions (with wobble) and blob of playdoh to keep the nut from falling off the socket.

I had a couple of extensions I just couldn't get the angle but I used big extension bars I didn't think about using small ones I'll give that a go cheers.

And brilliant idea with the playdoh! Maybe I wouldn't of lost so much skin if I'd thought of this

The nut is only heightened to about 6nm and it's a nyloc nut so won't vibrate lose and anything bigger than 1/4 drive could just lead to it being over tightened, it's also not doing much as the bumper is clipped in and screwed in so many places it's never going to come away.

I couldn't find any of my 1/4 drive stuff, I can never find things when I actually need them.

I gave the bumper a good pull and as you say plenty of fixings elsewhere so I stuck them in the door until I can be bothered trying again.

Do the fog light inserts just pull out?

Also where do you all get your service parts from now days? I've seen £30 for a fuel filter on one site and 15 on the next

1/4 drive set for me is my most used set, all the interior, fair amount of engine work and all exterior trim is all done with the 1/4 drive, as I find it's less prone to over tighten & stripping threads.

Yes, the inserts just pull out.

Most of my parts come from TPS, but more and more they are going trade only but thankfully I have a trade account, (Check with your local TPS to see if they still serve the public) however some of the parts I just go back to the actual manufacture, like the suspension arm's that made by lemforder and so are all the bushes so I just buy the lemforder parts.

I would be careful about fuel & oil filters, you don't want to buy cheap rubbish that could end up breaking down and start clogging injectors or the oil filter, just go to your local motor factors and get a good quality brand.

I'll definitely buy decent stuff, I think europarts had the fuel filter for about £30-35 for Bosch but Came across a site called autodoc that had it for £15 so was just curious really.

@KrisKrk you had any joy finding a splitter? I've noticed maxton now have one specifically listed for the facelift saline but at £152. A bit steep but then again this grill was only £20 cheaper

I order my parts from ECP.
From time to time, they have wicked saving offers which are really worth to buy.
Stuff is the same you can get anywhere and great choice.

Nah, Sean. Didn't look much about the front splitter lately. Gave up for now as focusing on the rear lamps.
Might end up going for that EZ lip to try.
If not, will consider just flat piece of black plastic, trimmed to size and shape of the bumper.

I'd like to see how the splitter tape stuff turns out. I seen your post on another forum and it got me looking again.

Anyone changed their exhaust tips? I would like to ditch the back boxes at some point but for now would be happy with some new tips just not sure if you have to get a particular fitment. I've not got under there yet for a proper look. What size would you go with on an A6?

Still not sure of it, Sean and cannot convince myself hard enough to order it.
Have few other things on mind now so untill they done, I don't want to start new ones.
Going away for holiday in July so planning to finish up the car for the journey.

As for the exhaust tips, they are also on my agenda.
Exhaust pipe is 75mm in diameter and could not see any good looking tips in that size.
Found some nice Akrapovic replica ones that I could make up to the state I really like the but they're not in the size.
Don't really want the Akrapovic logo showing as the whole exhaust isn't Akra so no point.
This is a tough one, Sean.

I'm going away in June so planning on taking a day off to finally try out the das 6 and fk1000p always got to blitz the car before a road trip.

I may even give that tape stuff a go myself if I'm really bored. It's cheap enough to bin if it's rubbish which I imagine it will be but you never know.

I've had a good look though the tips online, I've got an idea of the style I'm after but unsure what size would look decent and fit the bumper properly without looking stupid. Also yet to find the type I like at a decent price and unsure on fitment so will have to get my head under.
