Genuine or Aftermarket Discs & Pads?

Hi all, my front discs and pads will need changing in the next few months. Just wondering what people’s thoughts are on genuine or aftermarket discs and pads ie Pagid, Brembo etc. Car is 2015 S3 Saloon.

Any help would be great!

I really wouldn’t worry on brand unless you floor it often

It's an S3 , 90 through a village is not uncommon .

Here's the discs sorted .

Pads are a bit more of a can of worms..

I am a big fan of the trw stuff. The cotec pads are better than oe and less dusty. They normally come with all the fittings, shims, and sensors as well.

I put Pagid on the front of mine a few months ago and they have performed as well as the OEM ones so far imo.

Got the same to go on the back once the OEM ones are done.

Not a s3 but I went with Brembo discs and genuine pads. The Brembo discs have a coating on the hubs and so far it’s lasted all through the winter and multiple doses of blit Hamber auto wheels

I use Pagid stuff and have put their discs on my car and other close family members. I also use their pads as I believe it is a good idea to match pads and discs. I haven't had a problem and the zinc-based coating they have lasts for at least 2-years unless you use these harsh brake dust cleaners. On an S3 I wouldn't be inclined to fit the budget stuff - although it all has to comply with minimum safety standards. GSF/Euro Car Parts are known and trusted sources whereas with ebay you do not have this same reassurance. I do know for example, that Bosch suffer from a lot of counterfeit copies.

Clubsport discs up front, MTEC rear and Ferodo Premier pads all round

MTEC rear hubs have surface rust after 2 weeks so need painted.

How do you find this setup compares to stock?
 
I've been looking into pricing for discs and pads for my A3 2.0 TDI. Put my reg into ECP and was left bewildered by all the fitment choices . Want expecting so many choices . Anyone able to help out with an explanation ?

I'd ideally go OE quality or good quality after market . Don't believe in skimping on pads, they just end up needing replacing sooner.

You need to check the pr numbers in your manual or service book and match it to the parts. Normally in ecp you will find a description or fitment detail with a number like AB123.
As I said earlier trw is great products and good value. Some of the ecp stuff is just garbage. I’ve had pads disintegrate and fall apart before on other cars even though they are branded stuff they come in white boxes and not quite up to scratch to what you will expect from likes of pagid or other brands.

I was asked this on another forum so I’ve just copied and pasted the same response below

Still bedding them in, need to get a few more miles on them.
To be honest, not sure the difference in weight will be noticeable and the discs and pads that came off were scrap so anything will be an improvement. Also having the PS4 tyres back on will improve things.
Will my average Joe driving ability be able to justify them? Nope, but they look good.

I’ve ran the clubsport/mtec and the DS setup for a while now and it’s great. I would suggest upgrading the lines and fluid as well. I used tarox and pagid dot5.

All genuine as far as I can tell. Been using them for years now for all kinds of cars. Just bought a set of trw discs and pads all round for my folks car and fitted them. Quality is spot on.
 
Not sure if available in the UK, I have these (4000 series -T3) on the S3, with their matching XP performance pads, I do a few track days a year and they work fine with no fading and are also fine in day to day driving, pads don't need warming up to work. In Oz, they cost about 2/3rds of the price of the oem rotors and pads.

Had these on my Honda. Think they were just called dba 4000 without the t3. Great discs never had a problem with them on and off track with ds2500 pads. The colour changing heat strip was a bit difficult to see.
